Trump is a master tactician and marketer. He's also from New York. He plays dirty and he plays to win.

He is caricaturing his statements in a way to get maximum marketing impact. Like a WWE wrestler. It's working. He's resonating. He's cutting through the clutter. It's brilliant PR.

I differentiate that from his real views on things. He is more sensible and practical than he lets on. I've followed him for many years. Ruthless, sure. Tough spoken, yes. But not a lunatic as some fear.

He and Sanders are the only alternatives if you want real change. The others are all status quo and special interest driven. They will not get anything changed in my view. In fact, Trump may be able to cajole the Republican congress to get real change, which is where the real problem lies. They won't work with a democrat, and certainly not Clinton.

The only real risk with Trump is he's a gambler, and the world is a little too risky to have a gambler in office right now.

And that is one of Trump's biggest faults: He's a walking pretense, who is working through a character that is a hyperbolic vision of his already inflated self, instead of leading with his bare humanity. He doesn't put himself out there, really. He hides behind the brand that is him, which is as untrustworthy as you can get. As you said, "it's always the guy who's the most comfortable in his skin who wins," which is hard for a guy like Trump who works a facade most of the time and seems almost frightened to be anything but the exaggerated Republican stereotype he so loves to perform underneath.

I'm not judging him at this point. I know his statements are difficult for some to take, but I take them as marketing exaggeration of his view. For example, the wall is an exaggeration of his view that the US needs secure borders. The muslim thing is an exaggeration of his view that the US needs a more secure immigration & ISIS policy. That is marketing 101. You have to cut through it all and be heard. There's $m of special interest SuperPac money being spent against him by Bush in South Carolina.

Keep in mind he is on the Republican side and he must win a Republican primary. It's either go the way he's going, or appeal to God, guns and anti-abortion.

Trump embodies everything, that has made this world the sick place it is.

Ego driven, corrupt, merciless, only money counts and power and for that, everything in the way can be run over . He feels, America has lost some of its mojo in the world and will wants to put back the fear of god into every other nation again - with brutal force. War? No problem, because dont fool with me or else.

Elect him and prepare yourself for WW3. Amd you dont need no crystal ball for that.

He has one god- himself. There are no other interests in this man.

I don't agree with this. I think there is a much higher risk of war with some of the other candidates. I would recommend buying Lockheed, Boeing or Raytheon stock if any of the others win, apart from Sanders.

@bondjames, the sad thing is that I think he fully believes a lot of what he says: that's why it's scary. Most people say the things he does for a laugh or to try their hand at some clever satire. I think he says things genuinely and believes the words in his heart.

People like him are why I've gradually become an antinatalist, despite the great parenting I've seen my entire life from my own mother and father and others outside my family. Why bring a child into the world when this is what we're facing right now? It just doesn't seem like a safe bet.

I don't mean to go on... I've got a lot of work I still need to do today-can't get too distracted at the moment. But I have very much enjoyed discussing things with a well-informed individual such as yourself. Thanks for that.

    You may be right @BradyM0Bondfanatic7.

As I said, I've followed the guy for some time and he is a shrewd business man and marketer. He's very practical (one has to be to survive in the New York real estate business) Everything he does is with intent and a plan. He's deliberate and focused. Even his comments are very targeted.

For example he mentioned a ban on muslims entering the US until our politicians can figure what the hell is going on.
Meaning, Washington, get your darn policy in order. However, it was misinterpreted and got a lot of coverage, as he knew it would.

I'm not saying he's the right guy for the job. I'm just saying that people misunderstand him. There's a lot of bluster in his marketing. Behind it all, there's a smart guy with backbone and a heart. It's that backbone that many of the other candidates lack, and I think the American public realizes that. Bernie has balls too.

This has been very civil, and informative and entirely off topic. I blame myself, sorry. I conjure I started it. Can we continue here?

Yes, it has, and I apologize for my hand in some of it. Thanks for starting a proper thread for this stuff, @chrisisall. Hard to reign in passions when they've already begun to feel a release. ;)

@FoxRox, it's a fine skill to have to be able to see, understand and accept conflicting views on issues, something many in American politics lack, thanks again to the aforementioned political parties that offer you only two choices in the long run every four years. Elections come down to you trying to determine which of the two candidates is the least dreadful, instead of making you feel like you have any real choice.

Hell, in American politics we have what are called "majority whips" whose sole job is to make members, by any means necessary, vote with and not against your party of choice. This leads to a chain reaction where both sides refuse to give opposite viewpoints the time of day for fear of upsetting their betters or committing political suicide, which leads us to where we are now: Do we let the Republicans into the oval office to only strengthen the already meaty control they already have, opening up opportunities for more political monopolization of their conservative views, or continue with a Democratic White House where the individual elected wastes the same time Obama has since his inauguration trying to make real change, only to be denied each time by a republican majority?

Not sure what Congress you're looking at Brady. The Republican leadership in Mitch McConnell and previously John Boehner basically have given everything Obama wants the last couple years. They've bent over backwards to avoid government shutdown, and they haven't even fought against anything Obama had proposed. Now while not everyone in the Republican Party agrees with that tactic, you should be happy with these two in leadership.

Politicians from each side bug me to no end; this is why I'm independent. I think this thread is going off the rails :))

In our shoddy bipartisan system you'd never have a hope of getting elected into office, but I for one appreciate your free-thinking! The most fun independents can have at this time in the political game is watching the majority of these bone-headed upper class mud slingers use up their money and energy on a futile crusade.

Most everyone seems to treat the American election like a three-ring circus anyway. Why strive to make real change to bring everyone together in a globalized political landscape when we can simply mash together videos of Trump's funniest debate moments? What a world, what a world.

I certainly don't want to get into the political world so that's no issue. My views are all over the board, and often times I see both sides of the coin, so I can't really place myself on either side. The whole Trump thing is so ridiculous - I don't know how so many people can take him seriously.

Because he's the only adult in the room regarding the only issue that really matters--the demographic issue.

  • bondjames wrote: »
He's taken seriously even though he has no platform or clue because he tells it like it is. That authenticity is missing from all of the rest of them, except Sanders, who sadly is just a little too left wing to get elected. So it's down to a billionaire reality host and a socialist, until Bloomberg gets in.

Somebody only "tells it like it is" when they make clear to others the truth of what is present and real in the world. I would be "telling it like it is" if I defended each of you being Bond fans against someone trying to dirty your names because I've known many of you for years and have seen the truth that is your passion for the character.

Trump has never told it like it is, however, because he only brings forth the truths he has made up himself, false truths that make up his pathetic world view, where his spoiled life has made him unable to truly empathize with the struggles of anyone. He can go to as many veterans' homes, homeless shelters and war monuments he wants, but until he treats everyone in the world equal to the high opinion he holds of himself, his actions serve only to inflate his desperate PR mission to appear before the American public as a man with values and something to give. He's a cartoon character, nothing more, and I can't believe people actually support his strategic mud-slinging, bullying and fractured ideas of patriotism.

If arrogance is a disqualifier for the presidency then the office would have gone vacant for the last quarter century. And BO never would have graduated from Chicago rabble rouser.

But a future world leader should have a conscience. Now we would have a crazy man in the US and one in Korea with a lot of heated heads (not much better) in between. Hallelujah!!?

The North Korean one is far scarier ...tortures his own.

Both could use a new hairstylist though.

Seeing that Angela Burq'el is a madwoman herself, you certainly know from whence you speak.

Yes, and it raked in some respectable coin!

Yes it did and I think it was a huge success and at the end of the day these box office numbers that everyone gets in such a tiz about are pointless, there are so many variables from one year or decade to another that its impossible to compare accurately so why even bother? It would make far more sense to base it on cinema admissions but then with an ever increasing population that's not really right either.

All of Craig's Bonds have yielded a huge payoff.
  • Well! It looks like Sony have finally gotten their ass in gear. Spectre will be back in 275 more theatres in the US this weekend. Guess they finally saw how close they were to $200 mil and figured they might as well pass it. Just don't tell anyone it's available on blu-ray!

Considering how few screens are still showing it and that it is out on blu ray, it is surprising that anyone is still going to see it. Hats off to those who are.

Nice! I kind of figured that might happen. And look, I love my BD copy of the film, might watch it tonight. But seeing it in the theater twice last year was awesome. Let's be honest. The theater experience is way better than the home experience, especially with a big film like SP.

I prefer watching movies on my 65" screen at home.
Looking forward to getting the BluRay
I often find movies in theatres a bit 'fuzzy'.
