Didn't he do something like this in the 60's? Not Bond, but some kind of PI role. I remember seeing it some years ago (watched it for Raquel Welch, who was also in it briefly - what a babe in her day!)
Lady In Cement. Watched as a kid for... the intrigue... there was also a murder mystery in it somewhere.
Yep, that was it. I was on a Welch kick for a while. I also saw Fathom at that point. Sigh. They don't make 'em like her any more

Dude, you NEED to see Hannie Caulder- it's the best movie she was ever starring in (as opposed to just in).

Thx. Will do, I haven't even heard of that one. Will be checking it out shortly. She and Lynda Carter are goddesses in their prime as far as I'm concerned.

I've nodded off twice watching this. Will resume watching it earlier in the evening tomorrow.

Inevitably I watched 'Spectre' this evening. Daft as this may sound, I really wasn't looking forward to it all that much - probably due to seeing it so many times at the cinema. I felt like I'd OD'd on SP. But I enjoyed it far more than I expected. Maybe the nearly six week absence has made my heart grow fonder. I guess it helped that I watched it projected approx 120" x 50" and with 5.1 surround (and have to say it looked and sounded pretty darn good) so it didn't feel like quite such a step down from the big screen experience as has always been the case with previous Bonds. I pre-ordered the Amazon exclusive steelbook Blu-Ray - but when I received it yesterday I just couldn't bring myself to remove the cellophane as it looked so handsome in all it's pristine glory... so I popped into Sainsbury's this morning and bought the standard Blu-Ray to actually watch. This is what Bondmania does to otherwise rational human beings!

Jinx is the worst Bond girl by a mile. And I like that movie.

I agree but she just makes me indifferent - apart that she's a major hottie.

This - for me, at least - is impossible to deny. She has some awful scenes and even worse dialogue, but damn, if my eyes aren't glued to the screen when she walks out of the ocean in Cuba for the first time.

Wow, i never thought you guys were so much into Halley Berry's looks Yes she is gorgeous but i thought every man here prefred the European beauties.
Or maybe i just interpreted that no one cared for Halley's looks nor were attracted to her because of how much most complained of her as Bond Girl.

For some reason i thought you guys didn't like Jinx because she wasn't sophisticated looking enough or elegant enough compared to the striking Vogue type from the Europeans like : Ursulla Andres, Eunice Gayson, Famke Janssen, Lea Seydux, Bianchi and many others.

Today I watched YOLT again. I recognize it as a pretty clear step down from the first 4 Connery Bond films, and Connery himself is clearly in I-Don't-Give-A-F***-About-This-Movie mode, but it actually sorta works. His deadpan delivery is still good, and it's got plenty of wit, but Connery the panther bursting with charisma, sexual magnetism, and a real aura of danger is gone. This is autopilot Connery, but he's still THE James Bond so I still think he's just fine. The Japan setting is gorgeous. It grinds to a halt with that ninja training bit, but but other than that this is great OTT Bond. The first act is full of intrigue, and Adam's sets make even the most mundane actions in the movie pretty exciting. Add in Freddie Young and John Barry and Gilbert's sense for grandiosity? This thing is just a stunning slice of cinematic grandeur. Beautiful, iconographic, and Aki is quickly becoming one of my favorite Bond girls.

It's a little dramatically slack at times, but that comes with the fantasy territory. Connery still brings enough sense of danger, and there are some moments of real suspense here mixed in with the camp. The reason this towers above some of the other campy entries is that it executes everything with such panache and style and looks as beautiful and big as the scope of the film (WORLD DOMINATION!!). I love the supporting cast (Osato, Helga, Aki, Tiger Tanaka, and even Pleasance's Blofeld).

    1. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE / GOLDENEYE
    3. SKYFALL
    4. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    5. MOONRAKER / DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    7. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY / SPECTRE
    9. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN / DIE ANOTHER DAY
    11. QUANTUM OF SOLACE / THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH

I got through TB, LTK, and FRWL today, some of my favorites, especially LTK. Just six movies left in my randomized Bondathon, and up next is one that's in my Top 5: FYEO.

Ehh? A gorgeous woman is a gorgeous woman and Halle is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Irrespective of what one may think of her Jinx character, she'd definitely get the d.

This bit, x1,000. She's beyond attractive, isn't very hard for me to see that. We aren't comparing sophistication or European beauties, merely stating that when Halle crawls out of the sea, I crawl at my TV in awe.

If she did that the whole film and never opened her mouth we'd have a top 10 Bond girl. Unfortunately the writers gave her some of the worst dialogue in film history, and Berry did it absolutely NO favors. I blame the writing first, but I still think Berry is terrible in it.

That is a great foursome. They tie together nicely, being (with the possible exception of TB) the earthier Bond flicks (with CR and QOS).

It was totally incidental, too, which was nice. After FYEO, I'm left with OHMSS, DAF, LALD, MR, and TND.

The last time I watched DAD, which was pre-SP, I realized how attractive Berry was in it. I couldn't help staring at her, despite how annoying her character was. In any other film, I'd accept it, but she shouldn't have played it like that for a Bond film. It was more fitting for Cleopatra Jones or something.

All right, got it its and i agree she is stunning

  • Watched LALD, an entry I think is slightly underrated and I think one of the better Moore's. I think the pts with the funeral band, which is later repeated, is inspired. The score is very well done in general and I was surprised to find that this was non Barry. Roger Moore does a good job as an unruffled fish out of water (a white man in Harlem) and makes for some humorous moments. Jane Seymour is perfect casting and the supporting cast do a good job. The crocodile stunt is great. Unfortunately the subsequent boat chase is a bore and it's a shame the writers couldn't think of something better to fill 15 minutes of time with. I don't think much to Kananga's fighting technique. The Tee hee fight somewhat makes up for that.
    Overall a fine outing.

The only time I can't take my eyes off of her is when the film demands it (that melodramatic bursting from the ocean). It's pure sex.

Watched AVTAK. Once again, I'm left feeling that 1985 was perhaps the first time that Bond was thoroughly exhausted in every direction. Like any Bond film, it has its merits, but it definitely feels lethargic - almost as geriatric as Moore is in the film. And perhaps this is why some people consider AVTAK to be the worst Bond film (beyond the likes of MR and DAD). I can defend Moore staying up to Octopussy, but it's just so painfully obvious that he's completely outstayed his welcome by AVTAK that I don't think I've ever seen a Bond actor more out of place in the film. It's to Moore's credit that he can still act without seeming uncomfortable, but I just can't settle myself into the film. Some good scenes, brilliant score, good theme song, and Christopher Walken is great, but the film just feels way too drained.

Other than the bland title track, I don't really have any complaints. This is the best that the Connery era gets.

    Just finished TSWLM.

Simply a spectacular film. EON threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at the screen, and it shows. Epic scope, gorgeous cinematography, thrilling action, one of the top 3 best PTS' and one of the best final battle in the series. Roger Moore is on top of his game, giving a cool-as-ice performance as Bond. It's amazing how quick the pace is in this outing. Not one dull moment, just an endless succession of classic scenes.

Might be my favorite finale of them all two, now that I think about it. I do love the massive TB underwater fight. On Blu-ray it's stunning. Hmm, what else... GE maybe. But yeah, that might be king.

    Spectre

As I didn't see it in the cinema (2015 marked the lowest point in my Bond fandom) this was the first time watching Spectre. While I waited for the disc to load up, I had an odd sensation, knowing very little details about the film, I didn't know what lay ahead. It's been a long time since I felt like that.
So, what did I think? Well, actually... I enjoyed it. While Spectre isn't going to make The Living Daylights nervous in my ranking, I thought it was very good, a considerable step in the right direction. It's is not without it's gripes. The Writing On The Wall, the way it is sung by Smith is awful, I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying. The gun barrel is back at the beginning (finally), but the fade-out (rather than fall to the bottom, and open up to the film) was a cock block. And the Bond theme, certainly felt like it was used more in Spectre, than in the last 3 films put together, but it still could have been used a bit more. Mr Hinx was an absolute monster. I wasn't sure if I imagined the body slam, and had to rewind. That was quite a brutal fight. And considering that we didn't see the body, I think it's safe to assume that Mr Hinx will return. Léa Seydoux, in an unconventional way, is very charming. Team MI6 accompanying Bond, felt a little like MI6, but I won't use that as a criticism, as i'll chalk that up as a one off.
Spectre neatly ties up the Craig era, so where do I think he will go from here? Well, unlike some criticisms, I don't think Craig came off as bored. But letting Spectre would be a good send off for Craig, letting his Bond go off into the sunset. Bring back team MI6, Waltz and Bautista, to surround the next actor with familliar faces, then gradully phase some those out with replacements.
I'm not doing a traditional ranking, that will come later in the year, but if I were to rank it now where would it place? I think Spectre is the best Dan Craig film. Unlike Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace & Skyfall, Spectre not only had the (or at least some of them) traditional Bond elements, but it feels more comfortable in being a Bond film. And then on top of those, I would place it ahead of some other Bonds. We'll see when I do my proper ranking later in the year. Somwhere between 10 and 15... maybe (wherever it lies in my ranking, it'll likely be the highest placing Craig Bond).

I think that's everything. Spectre, very decent. Craig... not sure how this affects my feelings on him. I'll need to think a on this.

Let's not forget he turned several (if not many) supporters around to the other way of thinking, as well.

I get the feeling we'll be debating Spectre and its legacy for quite some time.

  • I'm not sure about that. I think it'll fall into the dregs of "just another Bond film" once Bond 25 is released. A decade from now etc.

QoS is the only one REALLY being debated. I mean we're all fanatics so we debate them all, but that's the one that really gets talked about a lot. SP does but only because it's "the newone."
