Second: Though it is off topic, as far as Bond 25 news, we should expect something this year. The least amount of information we'll get is who the new distributor will be, or if MGM sticks with Sony for Bond. I'd imagine the new distributor (or Sony) would want to announce Bond 25 production with the new contract to show it's a confident and strong agreement.
Even if they don't announce the film, we'll know who's distributing it. If it's not Sony, it should get huge press and be a great primer to motivate production. Either way Craig currently has other plans, so we probably wont get rumors or actual production news (beyond a possible announcement) next year for a 2018 release date.
Now back to a general discussion of who could be James Bond (anytime).
Fassbender. Michael Fassbender. Dunno if he can do an English accent though.
Some men need no introduction...

December 2018.
Hulk smash!!
I'll have to agree with this. I don't expect any official news announcements until the MGM/Sony distributor situation gets sorted out. I would imagine a lot depends on who EON goes with. I do believe we'll get the release date when the distributor is announced. Also whether or not Dan comes back we may know then as well...just a hunch. As for who could play 007 in the future- those pics of Aidan Turner do look suave, but I wouldn't quite call him Bond until I actually sat down and watched something he's in. Pretty much what I did when Craig's name was being touted in '05, I went and saw Layer Cake and immediately said "That's the guy!".
Maybe I'll watch something Tom Hardy's in sometime as well. Funny- I just don't see ANY of the candidates mentioned here as Bond- though maybe Hiddleson. When Tim jumped ship and Mel Gibson, Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson and Pierce were all being mentioned in the press Pierce won the polls by a wide margin.
I feel we're in an era where the general movie going public aren't comprised of Bond aficionados. They're not quite as passionate about the character, history or legacy. Meaning, you could cast Robert Downey Jr as Bond, and many people might think that's cool. They wouldn't whine that he's not British. To me, James Bond is a specific enough character that, although there's room for various interpretations, you can't just cast anybody in the part. I guess I'd probably be okay with Fassbender.
And yes I agree with you.
Don't know about that. Seems all the journalists are targeting Hardy and Elba for Bond comments. What's amusing is that until Daniel officially resigns, Barbara and Michael probably won't even consider auditioning anyone for the part. So by that rationale, Hardy, Fassbender, Elba, etc all stand as much of a chance to play Bond as any of us on this board do.
Xmen and now assassins Creed
Hardy whom I love was in the dark knight rises Mad Max and now Splinter Cell
Hiddleston Isi n the avengers but I believe after thor Raganok Loki more then likely isn't coming back.
They already commissioned a sequel.
This, unfortunately, even further reduces his chances.
Many of the actors mentioned here could probably play a James Bond-type character in an imitation film, or be a dashing model in a spy themed Harrods fashion catalogue, but I'm not sure if they'd drum up a ton of public interest.
It is for that reason Elba still has a chance at playing the part, age be damned. I remain undecided on the matter in general, but people would freak out if he was cast (positively and negatively). Can you imagine the amount of headlines something like that would cause? I speak as an American, but I wouldn't be surprised if Elba's first Bond film did $100m+ on its opening weekend in the States. Moreover, if the Elba and the film are met positively, I honestly think you're looking at an American gross that would top Skyfall. The trick would then be to get past the honeymoon first film and maintain the audience in the subsequent films.
Currently he's 43, even if he became Bond in Bond 25, he's going to be 44/45 at best. For a first Bond film that's too old now. I realise of course that Roger Moore was 45 when he made LALD, but times have changed. The Bond films are more physically demanding and take longer to make. We don't have that two year gap anymore. I can't see EON or whichever studio finances the next film taking a risk on an actor who can conceivably make two or three films max.
Craig will be back.
I don't see money being the deciding factor. Everyone isn't all that interested in money, as long as they have enough to be comfortable, and everyone doesn't care for all sorts of luxuries and excess. I don't know enough about Craig specifically to say he doesn't, but does he really? He's a millionaire several times over, why would he spend a couple of years of his life and do a lot of work he didn't want to do just to get more millions?
If you meant EON or studio, money would obviously be an important consideration, they're running businesses. However, even if they wanted Craig to stay to have a proven asset to bring in more money, if he really didn't want to, well... Or are you suggesting that they would force him to do it even if he wanted to leave, and would expect full co-operation, and would think it would be a good idea?
So - I don't see either scenario - not for the money nor the being forced into it.
The article nails the point that hetro-men have to admire the man cast; that this is, indeed, a hard role to fill.
And yes, if it was Craig vs Hiddleston battling on top of a speeding train, my money is on DC every time.
If I was to play the imaginary casting game (and, at this point, I have no idea of one actor I'd be interested in seeing play the role), I'd pit the actor vs DC in every conceivable scenario:
New Actor vs DC in a fight on a train
New Actor vs DC in a car chase... in a gambling sequence... seducing Monica Bellucci... having a face-off against M... and so on... If the end result that said actor tops DC in most of the scenarios, then we just might have our new 007.
However, I'm too blinded by the genius in Craig's four performances, and he's so bloody likeable in the role, I just have no idea what actor could come out on top.
Really don't agree ...not a racist remark but I think the opposite would happen.
Elba is out.
The new Bond actor's success will stand and fall with the director EON will choose.
Imagine CR had been done by Forster or Tamahori.
Craig's tenure might long be over already.
EON has to choose wisely the new actor AND the new director.
Yes. And i would add writer to that list
I'm afraid I have to respectfully disagree with Shane Watson of the Daily Telegraph. I'm a heterosexual male, and in contradiction to his self serving predictions, I actually do admire Hiddle.
His physique is just as impressive as Daniel Craig's was around the time of Layer Cake. For those men with unfortunate overcompensation requirements or needs, it's quite possible for him to put on a little more muscle quite readily. We know the ladies already swoon for him (well many of them anyway) so I don't see that as being a problem. Hopefully Babs takes the bait.
No, I think Watson is out to lunch quite frankly.
However, all this speculation about Hiddle implies he's not going to get it, unless it's very soon.
