YOLT is the only EON film to date in which Bond does not drive a vehicle.

Sean Connery and Brigitte Bardot were the original choices to portray Mr. and Mrs. James Bond in OHMSS. Instead, they played the hero and leading lady in the Louis L'Amour western "Shalako".

When Dame Judi Dench stars as M in Bond 23 in 2012, she'll have been in the role for just as long as Bernard Lee was, albeit not in as many films.

Desmond Llewelyn may have played with 5 different Bond actors, but Michael G Wilson also made cameos in 5 different eras.

And the films just wouldn't have been the same without him! :-))

Oscar winning actress Faye Dunaway was a contender for no less than 3 Bond leading lady roles: Domino in TB, Tiffany Case in DAF and the title role in OP.

In an extremely offensive & tasteless joke that was probably unintentional, John Cleese's Q says to Bond in the video game 007 Racing, while driving: "Q could drive better than that, and he's dead!".

Q (Desmond Llewelyn) died of a car accident. #-O
  • Moonraker is the only Bond film so far where Bond doesn't pull his PPK.

Bond girl Jill St John, Tiffany Case in Diamonds Are Forever, has a genius IQ of 162.

Quoting DaltonCraig007: I think Cubby wasn't very happy with the theme song for LALD, he openly called it ****. Until, one day, a music producer came to the set and offered to pay EON a huge load of money (If I remember correctly, it was atleast equal to the film's budget). Cubby declined the offer, and the next day, when he arrived on set, he told everyone "We have a great theme song for the movie !" I also remember reading that Cubby hated GF's theme song.
Not sure about LALD but it was Harry Saltzman who absolutely hated Goldfinger until it became a number one hit.
  • George Lazenby, in a rare fit of abject stupidity, suggested (in front of Barry I believe) that orchestral scores were a thing of the past and that OHMSS should have a soundtrack of rock music. (Gah...can you imagine?)

Yes I believe he was pushing for 'Blood, Sweat and Tears', though on hearing Barry's score for the first time he managed to really p*ss the composer off by announcing in a surprised voice that "It fits!". Barry was later quoted as saying that he realised at that moment that they had found a real real "genius" to play Bond this time.

Barry has often said that Harry had no musical taste whatsoever and as well as hating Goldfinger he actually stormed out of the recording studio when he was first played Diamonds Are Forever accusing it of being 'Pornographic'.
  • Even though Sean Connery made 6 official James Bond movies, he only appears in the gunbarrel sequence of three, "Thunderball", "You Only Live Twice" and "Diamonds are Forever" The first three movies feature a gunbarrell sequence performed by stunt man Bob Simmons
  • To the person who said You Only Live Twice is the one Bond film where Bond doesn't drive, I don't think he drives a car in Moonraker either. I guess the Gondola and the Q-boat would count as driving. Bond never carries a gun in Moonraker.

Also, Bond never carries a gun in Moonraker. He only shoots in the movie when Drax hands him the hunting gun.

Could someone cite the source to the John Barry/Georga Lazenby conflict over the score for OHMSS? Sounds like a fun story/interview to read.

Sean Connery was to play 007 in a cameo in OHMSS. The scene would have him be seen having plastic surgery, coming out as Lazenby to explain the change the actors
  • George Lazenby played Bond for a few minutes in 1983, so if we want to be technical, we got Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and George Lazenby playing Bond in the same year: 1983. Add to that: All three of them played Bond in franchises originated by Ian Fleming.

@Icebreaker: Great vid--I had never seen that before.

The pity is George still looks great in 1983 and had he been playing the role still, he would have been 8 films in, just wrapping up OP! Ah, history can be cruel some times.
  • (How do you quote on this site?)

@saunders I believe the song Diamonds are Forever actually was a degree pornographic. I remember an interview with Barry where he talked about how the song was basically about a cock. "Touch it, stroke it, and undress it" etc.

@JBFan626: Yes, I was also impressed by how good Lazenby looked in The Return of the Man from UNCLE, better than Roger Moore and Sean Connery that same year. He could have played Bond from 1969 to the mid-80s. One more reason to hunt down and destroy whoever was his manager at the time.

@icebreaker from where is that video?can you give us more info about it?
and highlight the text and you will see "quote this text" that is how you do it :)
  • Quoting dragonsky: from where is that video?can you give us more info about it?
    Thank you for quote instructions!

The video is from Return of the Man From UNCLE, a 1983 reunion TV-movie for the 1960s spy show The Man From Uncle (also based on a creation by Ian Fleming).

It's not the only time George played Bond, he also reprised the role in a very cheesy (but fun to watch) episode of the 1980s Alfred Hitchcock Presents revival titled "Diamonds Aren't Forever". It was 1989 and he didn't look as good, but the episode is fun to watch. Funny how EON never gave a damn about Lazenby doing these.

Correct! If only I could remember the name of the documentary. :-?

yes, but in all fairness, he is a decade younger than both of them (9 years younger than Connery and 12 years younger than Moore).
  • Yes, but it's funny how the age factor played in the franchise. Roger Moore is older than Sean Connery, yet seems about 10 years younger in Live and Let Die than Connery did in Diamonds Are Forever.
  • And then Connery popped up in 1983 looking fitter than Moore did in 73. Funny how that works.

True :) Connery seemed to age quite a bit from the mid 60s-mid 70s, but after that he aged much more slowly where Moore started to age quickly in the late 70s. By the mid-late 80s, Connery looked much younger than Moore.

The Bond vs. Jaws Amazon boat chase in MR was originally written for Bond vs. Blofeld on Lake Mead in DAF.

James Bond's London flat is a 2 bedroom, first floor converted town house. He also once owned a flat in New York.

I wonder if Charles Gray could have topped Richard Kiel's facial expression as he went over the falls.

One of the early scripts for On Her Majesty's Secret Service had Bond in a submarine Aston Martin and armed with ski-pole gun (both later featured in TSWLM). All I can say is...thank goodness for rewrites!
  • Does anyone have more details on how Maibaum's original Lake Mead climax in Diamonds Are Forever would have been? I've always been curious about it, as well as his original fjord climax for TSWLM.
