I would be 1,000% okay with this. Brilliant idea.

Yes, and a renewed focus on spying/suspense/intrigue as apposed to action.
I agree too, but as I mentioned somewhere else, this is actually far more likely with a new team and a new actor. Bond actor tenures tend to get more outlandish over time historically (Moore being the exception with FYEO only because he stayed on so long - that film was actually written originally with his successor in mind). It's normally only with a new actor that we tend to go back to a more stripped down and suspense oriented thriller.

Ever since GoldenEye the films have become action romps with hints of mystery/suspense for added flavour. Their is little distinguishing modern Bond from batman or mission impossible. If EON is serious about stripping things back, then use Dr No as the model. No personal drama, no bloated action set peices, just a lean, mean Bond outing.
They do this whenever there is a new actor, and GE is a perfect example, followed by CR (the personal issues were only in the last 3rd of the film, and rushed through). That's why I believe if we really want this, we're most likely to see it with a new actor. Craig's return is more likely going to be a direct follow on from SP (given rumours of Waltz's standing deal etc.) than something new and darker, at least imho.

Personally I think the best reason for Craig to return for a final film is so for once they can actually market it as his last one and be upfront about it rather than get peoples hopes up.

I mean we've never had a film where going in its been decided that this is the last hurrah for a particular Bond.

I think Connery was clear when doing DAF that he wouldn't come back for LALD, and he was quite clear during the making of YOLT that that would be his last one.

I'm not sure I'd label GoldenEye or Casino Royale as "stripped down" with regards to the action contained within. Now, I would agree that they are "stripped down" when compared to other Bond films made since the current EON regime took control, but they still contain their share of over-the-top action sequences (the tank chase in GE, parkour and airport in CR).

When @Mendes4Lyfe champions a "lean, mean Bond outing" in the style of Dr. No, I have to agree that that's exactly what I'd want to see from Bond 25. I'd strip things back even further than Casino Royale did and have the film just feature a good, tense thriller of a story with something tangible on the line, absent of parental, sibling, and trust issues, which the series has become far too bogged down in with recent entries.

Strip down the Bond girl, like Mary Goodnight and Choo Mee, not the film.

I think we'll be lucky to get anything as 'stripped down' as CR or GE going forward. I'm sorry to say that we're unlikely to see something on the DN level ever again, at least in terms of scaled back action. The Bond films appeal to a global audience, and so a certain element of accommodation of their preferences is going to be required and demanded. The parkour in CR & the tank chase in GE are fine for me. At least both films had their share of bare suspense as well, as did LTK before them.

I agree on the personal element. Enough of that, and I'm quite certain post-Craig we will see far less of it.

Great idea. DR NO would be a great role model to use for the next film. Mostly gritty detective/espionage with the, shall I say, subtle fantasy elements saved until the end. They should take this approach with or without Craig.

I'd like to agree, but the evidence points to the contrary. There's been a personal element to every one of the Bond films produced by Barbara Broccoli. Until EON proves that they're willing and/or able to change course on this, I have to believe that we're going to continue getting more of the same.

That is a fair point. I didn't think of that, but you're probably right. Sadly.

    Good morning,

Although the official news of the new Bond distributor is now running late since last month. But i'll tell you what, i've recently published an article called Top 5 Major Film Studio To Win The James Bond Rights:

    https://ukidents.wordpress.com/2016/03/23/top-5-major-film-studio-to-win-the-james-bond-rights/

Please be advised that it hasn't been officially announced yet until further notice.

Looking less likely that Craig will do another with each passing week... 'stripped down Dr.No style' just reeks of back to basics 'soft-reboot'. Which means a young, fresh 007.

I've never thought Dr. No would be championed among the fans. In fact, that's how Bond should be. Mostly gritty detective/espionage with the, shall I say, subtle fantasy elements saved until the end. Exactly like @ToTheRight described.

Fair enough but the push in the marketing wasn't making a big deal about it. It would be great to have trailers saying.

Craig is back as James Bond 007

    ONE.

    LAST.

    TIME.

Yes cos they were trying their hardest to get him to do another one - which may end up being the same situation here - the producers may keep hoping he'll come back for another. I.e. that marketing situation would only happen if the decision was made mutually.

Back to where some were saying that they hope Bond goes rouge next movie. No absolutely no. We have seen that enough in bond especially with the Craig movies. It's been done to death

Quite. I mean, for gods sake, the LTK template is growing very tiresome.

This is true, nobody can hold a grudge if he quits or even EON would decide to move on.

What probably angers most people is that Craig wasn't allowed to do more Bond movies within a reasonable time.
A 4 year gap and then again a 3 year gap is just not acceptable in my opinion. EON seems to be the only studio that is not able to have a longterm plan.

It should be elementary that when they cast a new Bond, that they plan at least 3 movies including casting directors and writers and recurring cast like M, Q and Moneypenny.
Anything else will just be dumb, lazy and incompetent.

To be fair the 4 year gap should have been 3 had it not been for the stuff going on at MGM, and the 3 year gap would have been two had they not accommodated Mendes' schedule.

I was at least hoping we'd get just one more with him. And give him a proper send off. It would've been nice to know beforehand if he was going to do one more or not.

Well said. It seems the intention is always for a traditional 2 year gap, but unlike Cubby, Barbara and Michael are more than willing to let more years pass, just to accommodate each situation that comes up. I distinctly remember at the end of 2010, when the MGM thing got sorted- the announcement that Bond 23 would be released 2012 followed by a new Bond film every 2 years. I actually feel waiting for Mendes wasn't really worth it on SPECTRE when somebody like Martin Campbell could have done just as decent a job. Cubby never delayed filming for Guy Hamilton when he was about to do Superman. He just brought back Lewis Gilbert.
It saddens me to look at Bond timelines as the longer gaps makes me feel the series may eventually peter out.

Just think, two years from today young Aidan could be half way through shooting his very first Bond film. I'm so proud of him. :-*
