Sequencing the James Bond soundtracks

Some tracks are composites of cues from different parts of the film. For example, "Gunbarrel/Flowers for Teresa/Sinking the St. Georges" contains music from both the beginning of the PTS and the post-titles scene where the St. Georges go down. The time markers here [0:00 - 1:45] and [1:45 - End] show which sections of the track, in minutes and seconds, correlate to that part of the film. The first 1:45 of the track is for the opening of the PTS, the rest of the track goes with the sinking of the St. Georges.

Why does "Gunbarrel/Flowers for Teresa/Sinking the St. Georges" have Track 13 by it? Isn't that the first track?
  • It's track 13 on the album, even though it's first chronologically.
  • Plus, why would Make it Last all Night be a bonus and not in the correct order - between Gonzales takes a Dive and A Drive in the Country?
  • How many more of these are unused? E.g. "A Pleasant Drive In St. Petersburg".

Well for starters on Goldeneye, there is also "I Am Invincible" which is the second part of the track "The Scale To Hell".

That's right. That cue wasn't used.

I'm not sure too about Bond (vs. Oakenfold). Its placement on the list suggests that it plays during the credits but I don't think it did. Is that piece used in the film?

    The Golden Horn (FRWL)
    Goldfinger [Instrumental] (GF)
    Dusk at Piz Gloria (OHMSS)
We Have All the Time in the World [Instrumental] (OHMSS)
    Anya (TSWLM)
Nobody Does It Better [Instrumental] (TSWLM)
    Into Vienna (TLD)
If There Was a Man [Instrumental] (TLD)

Also David Arnold's "Only Myself to Blame" sung by Scott Walker, which is present on the album but replaced by a techno version of the James Bond theme for the end credits. Smart decision too, as we've learned from GoldenEye that dreary and wallowy is not the way to send out a James Bond film.

I don't think Bond vs Oakenfold was used anywhere in DAD. The party scene had DAD (Dirty Vegas Remix), and this was used again in the end credits.

    The Golden Horn (FRWL)
    Goldfinger [Instrumental] (GF)
    Dusk at Piz Gloria (OHMSS)
We Have All the Time in the World [Instrumental] (OHMSS)
    Anya (TSWLM)
Nobody Does It Better [Instrumental] (TSWLM)
    Into Vienna (TLD)
If There Was a Man [Instrumental] (TLD)

FRWL has quite a few cues on the soundtrack that went unused.

    Guitar Lament
Leila Dances - replaced by a different John Barry cue in the movie
Death Of Grant - this track contains music that was used for the bomb attack on Kerim
FRWL Main Theme - slightly different instrumental used in the movie

    OHMSS

I think that WHATTITW instrumental was used in the movie, in the barn scene where Bond proposes. It certainly sounds very similar.

    TSWLM

The short answer is that none of the tracks were used in the film, as they were all rerecorded for the album, although some of them are fairly similar to the movie versions.

    TB

TB instrumental (Casino arrival) - sounds like a different arrangement in the film
    Car Chase

    DN

All of the tracks on the album are unused except:

    James Bond Theme
    The Island Speaks
Kingston Calypso (as part of main titles)

Yes, that version is in the film. I was referring to the lounge-style instrumental, which sounds similar to "Try" and may have been an alternate track for that scene.

The barn music is slightly different from the one from the soundtrack. Compare the first three seconds, in the movie it starts slower.

Oh I know the one you mean. Was that not used at all in the casino scene? I can only remember "Try" being used.

Yeah, pretty positive it's not in there. I've searched for it before while trying to sequence OHMSS. I've wound up placing it after "Bond and Draco" and before Armstrong's "We Have All the Time in the World" just because it plays well for me there and it doesn't fit in anywhere chronologically.

Cheers. I've always left it stuck next to "Try" as I never knew where else to put it.
  • I am very much a completest and have been getting into the soundtracks the last few years. This thread has been immensely helpful in sequencing tracks. I was wondering if there is another thread or someone with information on music missing from soundtracks as well as source music. I'd love to have a complete sequenced list of tracks for each film that includes the available score, any missing score pieces (unreleased music), and any source music used. Such a list probably doesn't exist but just thought I'd throw this out and see if anybody could help.

The Cat's Corner (http://thecat.uw.hu/) used to have complete lists of cues for each film, both released and unreleased, but sadly, the website seems to be half down. The Internet Archive is no help either. Maybe someone copied and saved those lists?

@RogueThunderball there is this on the John Williams board, though it's probably way out of date now.

Then there is Lukas Kendall's run throughs of his CD soundtrack expansions on FSM.

    Thanks for this great job.
But: The soundtrack of Octopussy includes 14 tracks. What about "Miss Penelope" and "Poison"? Where do I have to add these two tracks?
