Dr No - "Bond. James Bond"
From Russia With Love -Confrontation and Fight with Grant
    Goldfinger - Game of Golf
Goldfinger - "Now start losing, Goldfinger"
The Living Daylights - Pushkin interrogation
The Living Daylights - Koskov's defection
    Casino Royale - Meeting Vesper
For Your Eyes Only - "You left this with Ferrara, I believe.."
    Spectre - Train fight
OHMSS - Assault on Piz Gloria

Damn that's hard just picking 10!

    Very solid list.

Thanks. So many great moments to choose from. To be honest I could have easily picked 10 just from TLD....

I haven't done mine yet because it seems daunting to try and get it down to just ten but I will do it. I know there would be at least a couple of TLD moments and probably one from LTK too. Dalton really made his mark on the series in just two films.

It's not my favourite, but I think TLD is the quintessential Bond film.

That honour surely goes to FRWL ?

In that respect I'd put GF before that as FRWL is more of a straight thriller.

I think TLD harks back to the 60's while still retaining a modern Bond and still being very 'Flemingesque'

TLD is just the best Bond film ever made :-) It just has everything:

    Great story
    best Bond
    great action
serious but not overly violent tone
    great score
    interesting locations
    great actors
    suspense
    plot twists
    best PTS
    great pacing
no obvious plot holes, no bad writing or dialouge...

The film shows a more serious tone and moves away from the Moore era, however, still respects the tradition by keeping some of the gadgets, cars, Q and some of the rather lighthearted moments. It still feels very much like a traditional Bond film of the 60s with just a few extras installed.... :-)

Last time I watched it I did wonder, as the pipeline to the west had been perfected and Bond used it to get Koskov out (with Q and everyone waiting at the other end) why no one thought to let poor old Saunders in on it? His area, his plan and he knew nothing about it?

    Poor sod.

Still not sure about it but I thought that Bond as well as Saunders only knew a certain fraction of the whole plan. The pipeline part was so top secret that only few including Bond were informed. Saunders arranged the rest. However, I agree that it is not perfectly explained in the film.

This is far more difficult than I thought, and certainly a list that can change from time to time. That's how many iconic scenes exist, particularly in classic Bond films. If I were to be pressed, this is my 'current' distilled list, in no particular order:

    "Bond, James Bond" - DN
"You've had your six" - DN
Bond and Grant on the train - FRWL
    Beach scene intro - OHMSS
Bond and the crocs seguing into boat chase - LALD
Bond at the pyramids - TSWLM
Lotus chase and dip into the Ocean sprouting fins - TSWLM
Dam jump and entire PTS - GE
Bond on the crane - CR
    Bond in Shanghai - SF

1-OHMSS "I love you, I know I'll never find another girl like you"
2-TLD The sniper was a woman scene
    3-Skyfall's Tennyson scene
    4-Moonraker centrifuge scene
5-TLD Saunders's death and subsequent chase after ballon guy
    6-Octopussy Twins pursuit of 009
    7-Casino Royale defibrilator scene
    8-Specter Hinx-Bond fight
    9-TLD Pushkin interrogation
10-Mooraker Corrine Dufour being chased by Drax's killer dogs

    Runner-up:

    "Welcome to Scotland"

7 The Shanghai sequence from SF.

It never ceases to amaze what some people consider great moments.

But unlike Tosca I guess that's what makes this series for everyone.

The music in the YOLT scene is beautiful which does help a lot.

    1. Bond and Fiona after their romp: Bond suggests that he got no pleasure out of it. But do we really believe him? Still my favorite Bond scene, as it is clear that both enjoyed each other very much, and under different circumstances, things might have played out differently. It's a somewhat heartbreaking scene. (TB)
    2. Bond comforts Vesper in the shower. (CR)
    3. Jaws attacks Manuela at Carvival. (MR) The lack of music, with only street sounds, adds to the suspense, here, as Jaws is revealed under the costume. Great scene. Too bad it's in the worst Bond film of all time.
    4. Patrice falls to his death, Bond sees Severine, and then finds the chip. The lighting and Newman's "Modigliani" track are perfect. (SF)
    5. The ski base jump. What's left to say? (TSWLM)
    6. Bond and Camille venture through the desert. I love Arnold's Flamenco-inspired score here. (QoS)
    7. Bond meets Plenty O'Toole, who is soon after thrown out a window. "I didn't know there was a pool down there." This is actually a sequence of scenes, but it still gets mad props. (DAF)
8.Bond wins the DB5 from Dimitrios. I just love the little knock on the table: "Aces win." (CR)
    9. The bungee jump. (GE)
    10. Bond kills a snake and then meets Rosie Carver. In any other scene or film, George Martin's score would be ludicrous, but it works here. (LALD)

    1. FRWL. Confrontation with Grant and subsequent fight. A wonderfully tense scene with both actors at the top of their game, followed by the best fight of the series.
    2. DN. Bond's intro in the casino. What can one say, Connery just nails it and it's an iconic introduction to our favourite spy.
    3. DN. Killing Dent. A cold blooded scene with Connery really being Fleming's Bond
    4. FRWL. The gypsy camp. The whole sequence reeks of atmosphere and is straight out of the novel. Great action and the wonderful Barry music.
    5. FRWL. Epilogue with Klebb. Cracking end to the film with Klebb's last attempt to kill Bond and get the Lecter. She is seriously scary in this scene!
    6. TLD. Bond confronts Pushkin. The scene that had me hooked on Dalton. Brilliantly written and played. Dalton's Bond is pure Fleming.
    7. OHMSS. The entire film after Bond escapes Piz Gloria. The film doesn't put a foot wrong from this moment on. The escape/Bond being rescued by Tracy/the stockcar bit/the wonderful scene in the stable/the assault on Piz Gloria/the toboggan chase and that ending. Just wow.
    8. FYEO. Bond kills Loque. A satisfying bit of revenge for Bond. A seriously intense scene and Moore has never been meaner.
    9. OP. Bond confronts General Orlov. A brilliantly well written and acted scene. Moore is just dynamite here and the brief shoot out is also class.
    10. CR. Meeting Vesper. The scene that for me Daniel Craig was a Bond to be reckoned with. Great acting from both parties with nice dialogue. Even the blatant Omega reference can't ruin it.

That was bloody hard to choose just 10!

If I were to make a list, I'd rate them on their entertainment value, aesthetics, music, cleverness, etc.

I don't care how historic a scene is. For example, Bond lighting up a cigarette and saying "Bond James Bond" wouldn't even be in the top 200 scenes. Lighting up a cigarette and talking with it in your mouth isn't sexy anymore, it's just silly.

Some people who know me, and that I like the darker Bond films (i.e. LTK and Craig era) might be surprised that I have some funny scenes in the top 10 like OP's circus scene or AVTAK golden gate bridge finale.

I guess so. But it's the finale of a great laser satellite plot (with a very good reveal in the Whyte House), one of Barry's best scores, a nice high tech lair, the best Bond villain, some nice twists with the cassette tape ...
    Can hardly be topped.
