That's it @DaltonCraig007! The beard bothers me to no end. That's part of the reason why I can't stand Turner's look; then when I see him without the beard, I understand why he grew one in the first place (I find something weak in that chin-- too small a gap between lower lip and tip of the chin... Gives him a bratty-look over all).

    +1 also no black bond

I knew the news of Purvis and Wade returning would not be a popular one. For me? If they could deliver another Casino Royale? Then I would be happy however that was obviously lifted from solid well written material.

All I can say is get your backsides into gear as I want to see DC for the final time in Bond 25 in late 2018!!!!!!

Cameron just announced that the widely assumed December 2018 release for Avatar 2 isn't happening

Between that and the lack of Star Wars movie then too, anyone else think it'd be cool for Bond to move to that Xmas slot in 2018?

Hold the presses. I've just read that Disney wants Dec 2018 held too, as 'Young Han' may move to that slot. I've always said that EON should move Bond from the November release slot once SW arrived. They take all the best theatres over the key Christmas period.

You know what I would like, if they can't do nov 2018, then I don't mind April 2019 or may 2019
  • Background: MGM announced in November 2012 that Logan had been hired to write Bond 24 and Bond 25. Later rolled back to just one movie.

He delivered his first draft for Bond 24 in March 2014.

Not saying it will take Purvis and Wade that long, but I doubt they're going to be ready to start filming in early 2018 (which could make a late 2018 release possible). Once the first draft comes in, there are the rewrites, etc.

I don't believe the producers are seriously considering any non-white actor to play Bond. Btw, why is it that every time the possibility of a non-white Bond comes up, people always immediately think black? Why not Asian? There are far more Asian people in the UK than there are black people.

Yeah, we don't know for sure if they want to delay Solo to December though, or if they fast track Ep IX to then (shooting apparently might begin this summer). And people are suggesting WB could slot a DC film there too...

This movie has been delayed more times than any other movie I can imagine

Nothing has had more delays than Terry Gilliam's 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote'.

Not to stir the pot, but I wonder if Craig is waiting (again) on Mendes? Furthermore, I wonder if Mendes being a part of it could sell the project to a distributor?

I'm not sure that's strictly true, it's primarily because black people are the most vociferous when it comes to these issues. You don't see Asians clamouring to be cast in mainstream cinema on the same level. Not that it doesn't happen, but in TV/Film BAME has pretty much become shorthand for black.

@bondjames, I sincerely hope your pot-stirring is wrong; I am also hoping that Mendes is as smart as he sounds and he, too, realizes, he's got nothing more to give the franchise.

He's creatively spent on a big budget venture, and I think it revealed itself with the final execution of SP.

I don't disagree @peter, but I still believe, as I've said for some time here, that Craig will only return for one more crack at Bond with Mendes. I don't see him coming back without him for a final entry, although I can potentially see him coming back with a new director for more than one.

I think these two are a team when it comes to Bond, and will want to finish what they started together (along with Team Scooby).

So if the film isn't filming until "next autumn" then why have they acquired a helicopter for filming and why are they in "advanced negotiations" with Dubrovnik? Doesn't all seem a bit too early, or is this typical?

Like I said, I think he means this autumn

To be in production by this autumn they would need to be much further down the line than they are at present. But as for early location scouting and negotiations, that can often happen early because, if a particular location is becoming popular, the producers need to secure a deal as soon as possible.
we don't know how far along they are.

Well, I have been a Bond fan since my Dad took me to see Goldfinger at the cinema in 1964 or 1965 ...... I truly believe that if Daniel Craig gives up the role, the next Bond actor should not be black as this would totally go against everything that Ian Fleming wrote in the Bond novels... If it does happen, then that is me finished with any new Bond films... I have the complete set of films on Blu-ray up to Spectre ...

I agree. Bond was written to be a white male. I'm all for black actors/actresses being in a Bond film, (I love Naomie Harris) but not AS 007. That would be like making Batman black, or Superman black. If they feel the need to do this, then cast another double-oh agent as black.

I say the director will either be Mendes or Steve Soderbergh

I'd take Soderbergh. Mendes? Put him on a space rocket and fire it away.

P&W are hit or miss but I believe they have it within them to deliver an amazing script. The problem is that too many people end up interfering with their drafts and ruin them.

As for the film being next autumn at minimum... well at least we can sort of assume 2019 is more likely although I still have no idea why the hell they bought that airplane then.
  • The one thing about Soderbergh is he's very efficient, he often photographs his own movies under the name Peter Andrews. He also edits some of his movies under the name Mary Ann Bernard.

Bond is a little big to do all that, but having a thrifty director after the bloated budget of SPECTRE would be interesting to watch.

Indeed. I think Soderbergh could do wonders with Bond, especially if they want to tighten the budget and yet make a charismatic film. He's a great director but surely they'd have to relax that 'British only' thing?

P+W can be quite good at coming up with concepts but their dialogue definitely needs work. I guess they came up with the torture scene in SPECTRE - which might have worked if it actually "meant" something and Bond wasn't running around two second later like he was in the Doom video-game (this has always bothered me). If I recall correctly Robert Wade announced at the Premiere that they saved that film and added all the good parts (hope he was just being flippant).

Anyway, it's too early to judge but I wish EON took a chance with different screenwriters rather than just playing it safe.
