Almost a brand new Bond fan with some questions.

Hello! My first Bond movie was Quantum, I took it as a free pass and the company I was with bought the food, =). That being said I went back and watched all of Craig's Bond movies in order, but only recently. I love them, my favorite is a tie between Skyfall & Casino Royale. Then I have started going backwards and I have seen all of Brosnan's Bond films. Ok, so I've see Dr.No but the rest other then those mentioned I have not yet seen. Is there a cheap boxset for all the films? Which actor/bond should I start with next? I'm guessing Connery but I hear Moore was good as well. Anyway any news or thoughts are welcome.

Welcome. Well tell us a little bit about your relationship with James first. What do you like about the films and the character, what did you think of the Brosnan films compared to he craig films. What did you think of dr no? Then I think we can better access where you should start. As for a box set as you live in the US I would search up bond collection on amazon and add it to your cart. I think I’ve seen it go as low as ~$75

Hi there! I would recommend to purchase the 50th anniversary set since it contains all the movies and is available for very reasonable prices here and there (online + offline), DVD or BluRay (BD recommended, of course).

I envy you that you can go through the whole experience again and see all those brilliant movies for the first time.

Since you liked Daniel Craig, I would recommend starting with the Connery films for sure since they for many parts resemble this style for the most, maybe squeeze the 2 Dalton films in and then turn to the lighter approaches of Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan.

Last recommendation: View the single Lazenby outing of On Her Majesty's Secret Service before "You Only Live Twice" ... even you have a small continuity problem then. In my opinion the tone of OHMSS makes more sense this way, then go to You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever and then the Moore entries.

    Have fun!

I'd certainly recommend the entire boxset. No fancy packaging but you get all 24 films with special features for about US$100.

    Missing Spectre:

    All 24 official films:

I'd suggest one movie per actor to get a taste of the varied styles. Not going into too much detail because the best way is to watch it. Pick up a copy from the library

    Connery:
From Russia with Love if you liked Dr No
Goldfinger if you want something more fun or to see what the fuss is about

    Lazenby:
On Her Majesty's Secret Service. A fan favourite

    Moore:
Live and Let Die for something quirky
The Spy Who Loved Me for something grand

    Dalton:
    The Living Daylights

    Welcome!

Skyfall's my favourite of the Craig Bonds, followed by Casino Royale, so perhaps your tastes are similar to mine. In that case, I'm going to push for The Living Daylights and OHMSS, which I love to bits and are also high stakes emotionally.

(edit: gonna throw Licence to Kill in there too)

I’d recommend your next six to be these:
    - From Russia with Love
    - Goldfinger
    - On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
    - The Spy Who Loved Me
    - The Living Daylights
    - Licence to Kill

In my opinion those are the best 007 films you haven’t seen yet.

Wow what a response(s)! As for the character goes I'm enjoying Craig A LOT. Pierce was fun tho, World Is Not Enough is my favorite from his era. Also thanks for the links for box sets and what not (i'm looking into them). After looking up each movie I"ll indeed watch From Russia with Love next. I am really enjoying the character, Bond is a wreck but never see's himself as one. I'm obviously just talking about what I have seen, and they are simply opinions. I have to say the growth peeked (as an all around character) and again from what I've seen, with Spectre. I'm not sure where they can take the character next in an emotional way. I am very excited that we have a good director take over yet again, and I assume Craig is returning, at least I hope for one last hooray. Lastly send me tips on this post and thoughts I'm opening to discussing the character with his movies.

It will be interesting to see your opinion change over time, and as you watch the others in the series. It's a very mixed bag of styles - it looks like you like both character driven ones and fun ones, so I think you'll like a lot of them

Fair assessment, but you'll see your opinions will be moulded from each viewing and fluctuate from film to film!

There's a wealth of knowledge on here and we're all keen to hear opinions. Just make sure you do a search because if you have any thoughts, there's probably a thread on it already! Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe google search "mi6community ______" works better than the actual search here

I got a box set last Christmas; previously I'd only owned a few random ones I'd found secondhand or been given, and otherwise I had to wait for them to show up on TV. It makes such a difference owning the whole lot so you can watch whenever you want!

Even better when you buy the download on Sky Demand so I can watch it on my phone or on the TV without even moving my arse !

A bit scared to think of being too lazy to take a DVD out of it's cover, though! :))

Also keep in mind that you can usually find DVDs or Blu-Rays of the Bond films at the local library.
Make sure to watch the series in chronological order--it'll make far more sense that way and you'll get to see how Bond adapts to his times.
