It’s sad how many people are being negative over this casting information. WE FINALLY HAVE NEWS, PEOPLE! Just because we have some returning characters from SP doesn’t automatically mean B25 is going to suck. Let’s wait until we hear some details about the plot, then we can safely make that judgement.

    We want news.

    News is given.

THIS IS NOT THE NEWS WE WANTED.

    More news when?

This thread in a nutshell. :D

Killing off Swann and having a revenge story is far too straightfor and predictable. I’m holding out hope that Babs, Dan and Cary will surprise us and go down a different route with the story.

Still no news. Bond 25 is doomed and Barbara and Michael must be replaced.
    When are we getting news?
Bond 25 is doomed. Barbara and Michael must be replaced and Bond will not be seen again for many years.
    Within a week...
    Possible DOP
    Possible location in Norway
    Possible return of Seydoux
    Possible return of Feinnes
    Possible return of Harris
    Possible return of Whishaw.
Patience is a virtue. You just have to be patient.
Personally I’m not unhappy to learn that Lea Seydoux might be coming back. Didn’t mind her in SP.
A new director means a new take on things. I’m willing to wait and see what happens.
I’m just glad Mendes isn’t back. Wasn’t extactic about his return after SF.
Nice to see some Bond 25 news. Hopefully it will whet a few appetites.

Everyone has to calm down and relax, and maybe have a vodka martini :)

I predict here and now that Swann will NOT die in Bond 25and that the only connection between this film and Spectre will be Bond’s relationship with her.

There is no Scooby gang without Tanner, without him the new M, Moneypenny and Q are simply three great characters.

You think she will be the main Bond girl in this film as well as in SP ?

Why not? She's a very good actress, the only thing we need is a good story

SP might retrospectively end up being an above par Bond film if they're able to intelligently finish off the story. Like a reverse CR/QoS situation. Great news!

Bravo, I thought the same thing!

Is it fun for you guys to call them "scooby gang"? Like do you find actual enjoyment in doing so? Genuinely curious.

It seems a bit of shame that Fukunaga wants to inherit the Mendes's sloppy seconds in terms of narrative....

Lea has not done much since Spectre - mainly as she had (two?) children since the release of that film. Though, she is said to have a starring role in Wes Anderson's much hyped The French Dispatch.

I don't think Bond even loves Madeleine - he's just using her as a Vesper surrogate. She's the only woman since Vesper who reminds him of her (her name is even a Proustian reference to her) and he gets to save Madeleine in a way that is evocative of his failed attempt to save Vesper in Venice. He's only using her. I'd have thought Madeleine would have seen sense and left him.

Howevere, there are only so many way you use Madeline in a sequel:

1.) Kill her off in the PTS or in flashbacks:

This would inevitably see the film blogosphere and Twitter erupt over how Madeline was 'fridged'. The Bond series already has a rocky relationship with gender politics and this is perhaps not the best PR move. However, it's the approach I like the most. Make her more of a lingering memory and narrative impetus (Much like Tracy's death in YOLT) - but did audiences care about Madeline enough the first time to feel any impact at her death?

    2.) She’s the female lead:

Lea already had a crack at being the female lead in Spectre. She gave a great performance and Madeline was effective in the film. Though, she hasn’t really resonated in the years since. She was a little beige compared to some of secondary players in past Bond films. Would Cary want to use her as the lead? I'm doubtful - though, it makes the more sense.

3.) She’s the secondary Bond girl:

Could she play a minor supporting role? Something smaller than the lead, but larger than a quick death scene? Personally, I can’t see this working. You can’t take Madeleine – who was the Bond girl of the last film – and relegate her role for the sequel. Though, they did do that to Naomie Harris (however, that was quite an exceptional case).

Its highly annoying but makes sense. However, due to how they were used in Spectre, everyone is thinking that they're going to be doing the same thing with the same amount of screentime. Obviously, Fiennes, Harris and Wishaw are slightly more household names than Lee, Maxwell and Llewellyn so you don't cast them just for glorified cameos. But it makes sense to have them for continuity purposes. Perhaps we'll see them in a TSWLM\MR type in which we get office scene and a field scene and thats it.

A character's death only means anything to the audience if they have an emotioal connection with the character. Tracy, Vesper and M are the obvious examples and they all achieve what they want (in loads IMHO). Sorry to say I just cant see this happening with Seydoux.

PS or the reason she was so unconvincing in her love for Bond is that she was lying and is somehow a Spectre plant ? ("the author of ALL your pain")

Turns out to be Irma Bunt. I still dont see them all piling into the Mystery Machine and following Bond for 2 hours. At least I hope they learned that from Spectre.

I think people are overreacting to this news. It's not encouraging that seydeux is returning. She was not memorable (nothing was in that film). Don't see why they can't bring her back in a silvia trench type capacity or kill her off in the beginning though. It is encouraging that there's no mention of Waltz. Reminder that spectre was awful, and that bond25 being tied to spectre and being good are mutually exclusive. I have confidence in Cary Fukunaga, but any connection to spectre will work against bond25. I would like to forget that film. Brining back fiennes, harris, and especially wishaw is good, but keep it limited.
I am in agreement with your points. With any luck, she is used in a Trench FRWL capacity before Bond goes off on his assignment. That would be the best thing imho.

However, any attempts to redeem the shambles (imho) that was SP will fail with a portion of the fanbase who have written that film off. I can't comment on the general public, but it might work in their case, because they probably don't feel as passionately either way about that film.
Remember when I told you Blofeld won’t return but Swann would? Could it be possible that I was right AGAIN? No, Bond 25 won’t be Spectre Part 2, and no, Swann won’t die in the movie.
I've learned not to doubt you.

Just speaking for myself, there is no fun in referring to them in that manner at all. Just accuracy. I don't call them Scooby Gang though. Rather, I refer to them as Team Scooby, and the sooner all of them are gotten rid of, the better as far as I'm concerned. They are all Mendes creations and none of them hold a candle to Young's or Campbell's recurring characters imho. Moreover, I feel they have been discredited with SP, and they weren't well enough established for that to happen so soon. Another reason why I'd rather not see any of them again.

Yes, absolutely, but unlike many people here I am convinced that her being the main Bond girl again won’t make this film Spectre part 2.

Excellent news about cast continuity if true. Good chemistry with my favourite Bond actor. I know others will disagree but I want Blofeld back to complete the arc.

Finally some real news!! This is my first post so apologies if it's long

I'm sure they have a great reason to bring Swann back, though I do think it just narrows Bond 25 considerably having her character back.
The obvious would be killing her off and giving Bond the motivation to seek revenge. Maybe if you bring Waltz back as Blofeld, it would bring out a better performance from him. More like Inglorious Bastards kind of sadistic nature about him. Who knows.
Or throw a curve ball completely and make her a villain that Bond has fallen for, after all she is Mr White's daughter. It would make a lot of sense as to why Blofled didn't have her killed or at least tied up while they were at his base, when Bond wakes up in the chair.

Great to see Ben Whishaw back, he's a great Q and has great chemistry with Daniel. Hopefully they bring Jeffrey Wright back, he's my favourite Felix and he has such a brilliant presence on screen.

I'm excited by Bond 25 hopefully they don't spend to long harking back past films and break new ground
Fingers crossed Fukunaga gives us the raw Bond action that was so exciting in Casino Royale with a Daniel at Skyfall level. Don't go over the top with forced puns and gadgets, just give DC a really good send off he deserves as Bond.

It would be great to see Bond 25 end with BOND ALIVE, first and foremost, but for Craig's last words to be , "yes considerably"

I think best case scenario would be that at some point between Spectre and B25, Bond and Swann have broken up because they both realize that Bond can’t fully move on and understand that being a spy is part of who Bond is. She could serve as a secondary role, similar to how Michelle Monaghan’s character served in M:I 4 and M:I 6.

I wouldn't mind that. But the outrage would be full if she's riding shotgun in the Mystery Machine. You have to figure for continuity purposes, Madeline is the logical character to bring back. Every other one ended up dead and I'll exclude Camille only because she was only out for revenge. Her chapter closed at the train station. Unless they brought back the Ocean Club Receptionist for a night of good shagging.

    +1.

I loved SP and I'm really thrilled about this news. Fukunaga seems like the perfect guy to (kind of) adapt YOLT properly. Fingers crossed. BTW having Madeleine back it's an obvious choice if they're goin to make a direct follow up of SP. She was established like the "perfect" match for Bond in this time of his life, so she's back.

Speaking about the title, I would like to notice that "All the time in the world" were supposed to be the final words in SP script. They probably cut the line because it would have been like dooming Madeleine to a certain end without knowing if they're really goin to make another with Craig etc etc and they preferred to leave everything more open. But I'm pretty sure they discussed about her destiny on SP set. I also remember am interview Mendes did where he talked about his ideas for the follow up, and he spoke about an "older" Bond with YOLT elements...

A terribly wasted opportunity in my opinion. Twice too, as she was also in Austria in QoS during the Opera (she gets around). EDIT: My mistake, I had read somewhere that it was the same actress, but apparently this isn't the case.

You've got me thinking when you mentioned dead Bond girls. It's true that Craig Bond's had his share of losses on this front. The only one who survived was the one he didn't sleep with (Camille). So they may be going for some sort of message here.

Given Seydoux is back, I wonder if we will either get a female main bad or a henchwoman in this film to balance things out on the dark side?
