Of course, just my opinion, but after watching the short posted above...-
He has a Connery/Craig vibe about him.
He's not he-manish. That seems a ridiculous statement.
He doesn't seem to be a self-loving, wanker-toff like Hiddles.
He's got some nice masculine attributes, a charisma and talent.
I'm not saying he is Bond, but I would certainly have him read the FRWL scene with Tatiana...
RE: Moore - I can appreciate that he lacked something for those who saw Connery define the role. To me he was just another interpretation of the role, as I saw both his and Connery's films together when I was getting into Bond as a kid. I actually preferred Rog back then but over the years Sean has taken his rightful place as #1 for me.
Not sold on Cullen based on his Downton Abbey appearance (as mentioned, I thought Dan Stevens had a bit more of OO7 about him in that show) but I'm open to seeing him in something else before writing him off completely. He's the right age and so agree that he should get a chance to audition. They should cast a wide net for Bond #007 in order to get the best man for the job.
When I say he looks Greek it is with the beard. Otherwise on thar Downtown Abbey picture he'd be borderline perfect.
His Downton Abbey appearance doesn't concern me as that was 8 year's ago. The man has matured since then.
That was the masterstroke in casting Daniel Craig. He was very atypical from what many anticipated we would get. His casting was bold and risky. I want them to keep that same energy and bring in someone who has a little more grit.
Personally, I think the 'next Bond' is someone no one has mentioned yet. None of us would have anticipated that Daniel Craig would get the part in 2002. I think Barbara wants to surprise audiences with the next choice.
Personally, I think someone like Joel Edgerton is someone who could have played the role a few years back, he's far too old now.
Someone I've been heavily advocating for a while is Jack O'Connell, I think he's the right age, he's edgy, he's masculine, he's sexy and (speaking as a man) he has that bloke's bloke quality that Connery and Craig have.
Also... Brosnan and Moore... Bland? One baffling statement after another.
I like his acting (in this instance), I like his looks (without the beard obviously). To me even his voice is a bit Brosnan-like (except for the accent). It would certainly be interesting to see him do the Tanya scene.
You realise it won't be a surprise for the second time in a row right?
James Bond isn't meant to be uncouth or a bloke's bloke. Why do you seek to reinvent Bond's persona to justify your personal choices for the role? That seems a selfish way to cast the role. I don't think Craig is particularly uncouth in the role. Also, the notion Connery was a bloke's bloke kind of Bond - seems absurd. Connery's Bond intro was in an expensive casino, he was playing chemin de fer, not down the local bookie playing the 1960s equivalent of a fixed-odds betting machine! With respect, do you actually understand who James Bond is? Seems doubtful.
Joshua Sasse. Previously known as a possible Mr. Kylie Minogue before he cheated on her and got dumped. Used to star on ABC's Galavant.
Josh Bowman. Currently the possible future Mr. Emily VanCamp. Used to star on ABC's Revenge.
Of the two, I prefer Sasse's look. He has a bit of young Connery in him (and also is part Scottish). Rugged but also interesting to look at, and wears a suit well.
I don't think either have much of a shot given their CVs, but thought I'd throw them out there regardless.

Ultimately, we know what Babs Broccoli's primary criteria for Bond is, because she has stated it. The #1 requirement is that he be a top notch actor. So whoever the next Bond #007 is will have to meet that condition to be under serious consideration while she's in charge over there. It may even be more important than looks to her. As I've mentioned previously, I would also like the next chap to be relatively versatile, so that he can allow them to vary tone and approach during his tenure if necessary while still being authentic in the role.
Seens like a massive overreaction, accusing one of the most thoughtful posters on here of knowing nothing about Bond because of his preferences. I don't know what the actual definition is but I think what @Pierce2Daniel meant by a man's man (or bloke's bloke or whatever) is the way I've always used that term: very traditionally masculine. Rugged, tough. Connery and Craig definitely fit that bill.
Personally I agree with wanting someone a bit more 'uncouth' as well. Bond is suave and refined sure but he needs something a bit rough about him too imo, a bit of an edge (Moore didn't really have this at all to be fair but he was one of a kind and made up for it with bucket loads of charm). He can't be too posh and poncey.
The problem with a lot of the names suggested imo is that they don't have these qualities. I've seen way too many skinny, hipstery, baby faced BBC/HBO types thrown about on here for my liking. I don't care how short he is (it's the movies, long as he's not an actual dwarf they could make it work; he still has a good few inches on Tom Cruise and everyone goes on about how cool he is in MI) Jack O'Connell is the only young name mentioned who I think is masculine and charismatic enough to pull it off. Give me him as Bond over some manbun wearing ponce any day.
Not only that, but O'Connell looks too much like a council estate yobo.
He's the one on the right. He's standing next to Sam Claflin, who is a fairly small guy himself.
He should also be taller than the women he stands next too. I know Jolie is probably wearing heels here, but damn:
Angelina Jolie looks more like Bond here.
I'm sure he's a good actor, but the guy looks like he should be playing the lead elf in a Santa Claus movie.
seriously, @Murdock is the most fun and entertaining poster on this site. Ppl may get close, but, and no fault against them, they just don't have the consistent creativity, humour/quick wit (although that damn fascist/communist/oligarch, @Thunderfinger, is a deadly second-place), and fun Mr. Murdock has (without being a dick-- where most have failed).
Keep up the good work @Murdock!
P
:)) :))
Thank you both. I love sharing my love of Bond with you all as well as my art while keeping things fun. :D
I'm not sold on Jack O Connell either. It's not the height, it's just that there's nothing about him that remotely makes me think of Bond. It's almost akin to posting a picture of Richard Klein in the role of Larry from THREE'S COMPANY, and suggesting him for Bond.
Just based on the above pictures, this O Connell guy reminds me more of E from ENTOURAGE than the dashing and deadly 007.
Agreed. Nothing really stands out about him for me either, and these recent photos haven't helped his case. Quite the contrary actually.
