He could still be playing Bond now, and probably for the next five years.
Every time I see that guy in a film (including a crap one) I think Bond. If the shoe fits....
Sean seems incredibly uncomfortable and out of his depth in Marnie. it's one of Hitchcocks worst films though anyway so Sean can't take all the blame .
haven't seen woman of straw. watched The Hill years ago which is good.
It is a POS. As an avid fan of the books, they took all Stephen King's rich mythology and complex storytelling and threw it all away for generic action. The main character, Roland, whom Elba portrayed is one of the most interesting I have ever read. Again all this is lost on screen. To be honest the casting of Elba should have set alarm bells ringing. The character in the novel is white. One of the main side character's is a black woman from the 60's deep south(there is time travel involved, in a way) The racial tension between the two is one of the main character beats. That was a clearly a big plot point that was going to be jettisoned.
Anyway enough of The Dark Tower. Back to Bond!
Please do see Woman of Straw when you can. Connery is brilliant in it.
That is really disappointing to read. It's a shame they cast him then.
It’s my favourite Connery film of all time.
1) Has a decent face for the part. Good looking, square jaw kinda chap. He doesn't look like Craig so his casting would feel a bit fresh, I suppose.
2) Starring in a popular tv show, Outlander.
3) Show expected to end before Bond 26 begins filming. He'll be in his 40s when Bond 26 goes into production.
4) Wants the part!
5) Isn't Idris Elba. :P

Seeing the Sean Connery comments above - it's fair to say this guy isn't the next Sean Connery. I think we have to accept a Connery type guy coming along is very unlikely. Like almost zero chance.
The rumours didn't get traction. Elba did. So I can't see it frankly.
Bond HQ:
Babs and MG are discussing Sam Heughan. MG notices Barbara is getting a bit hot and excited by the prospect of Sam taking over.
"Oh, I like him! Yummy."
"I thought you loved Daniel? Weren't you going to convince him to do a sixth film?"
"Daniel? He's too old now. I'm bored of him. No, give me some younger man like Sam. He's the guy for Bond. Sam Heugan, Hungan, Heuigan, whatever his surname is. He's the guy. He's hot and women will like him. Trust me, MG, I've never let you down so shut up and let me do the casting."
"Whatever you want, dear. Idris will be upset, though."
If only Richard Madden could look manly clean shaved...
5ft 9 ¼
He looked quite short in Bastille Day.
(Aren't we terribly judgemental! - Being a Bond fan is not good for one's tolerance levels)
If Richard reads this, I'm sure you look perfect so don't buy those high heel shoes. And good luck with the audition!
No way....not for me at all.
Craig is only 5'10", not much of a difference.
That's my other issue as well.
What about Danny Dyer? :))
Yeah !!
Eez ah diamond geezer, nah wot ah mean ? but I fink he wood be 'Pony' as Bond,me olde china,Torg, pal.

Luke Thompson from In the Club? Maybe? Rubbish melodramedy but he held his own in it.
Hahaha, just like Fleming himself would write accents, @barryt007!
"Oi, muppet, shake it don't stir it, or i'll put sumfin' right across your canistah."
Hahaha! Imagine bar scenes with Dyer Bond, and every bartender that gets the martini wrong :))
And then there's the seduction scenes…
