Much of it is the embassy sequence...
The shot of DC somersaulting and then looking forward. It's awful. The stuff of made-for TV action. And then Campbell somehow thinks a closeup of the siren inside the embassy is necessary. Plus, the closeup of Mollaka's face. Seriously? The entire embassy sequence is awful, with bad staging and bad lighting.
Also...
The shot of the Ford, traveling through Nassau. Eeeck. We have a Ford TV commercial, folks.
The shot of Bond's face, trying to stop the fuel truck on the tarmac. Did Campbell instruct DC to look like he's straining, while sitting on the toilet? What director allows James Bond to look like that? Apparently, this one.
This isn't a camera angle issue as much as a staging one: but having Bond stumble out of the casino and nearly get hit by a car, that then forces him to twirl around, is a cliched piece of cinema. Just substitute a poisoned Bond for a drunk. We've seen that scene hundreds of times.
CR has a terrific story and terrific acting. Campbell just had to make sure he didn't screw it up, and in places he practically did. I may be knitpicking (I'm sure I am) because CR is a great film, nonetheless. But let's stop pretending that Campbell is god's gift to filmmaking. He isn't.
I find it interesting that so many Bond fans are clamoring for a filmmaker (Campbell) and a composer (Arnold) who have done little outside of CR. There's a reason for that.
It had an extremely limited release (four screens) in the U.S. on Dec. 29. Listed at No. 39 in the chart in this link.

I’ll join the protest.
Surprised you didn’t already have a start on that one!
Wow! Thanks for the info. Based on that I don't imagine non-Bond Eon films will be the bread and butter for the company.
More release dates from other countrys:

Saw that. I wish we could just get something concrete instead of more rumors.
Oof, easily one of the worst artists of today. I can only hope this is mere rumor.
Take this for what you will.
My thoughts exactly. My hope was all the secrecy was for a Nolan Bond and not due to a lack of progress.
I'm glad. I think Nolan is great but I'd want him to have free reign like he did with Batman. Write, direct, cast his own Bond. So I'd rather have him for Bond 26.
Even if it’s Tom Hardy
We'll just have to see who they end up with.

Apart from that, I must say all those points you point out as being poor in CR I actually quite like. Including the car commercial. Bond should be more like a commercial again. The first part of Kenneth Branagh´s Murder in the Orient Express felt to me like a huge traveling commercial. The Ford commercial in CR was similar in a way. I want more of this in my Bond films.

Personally, I think Steve McQueen would be terrific....
Also, regarding the discussion concerning Martin Campbell. As a director, he is a bit of a hack. However, he's a great Bond director. He knows that character and the world very well. More accomplished directors have faltered because they haven't understood the character.
In CR, Campbell expertly combined a tougher more grittier edge with the glamour of Bond. It's a perfectly directed movie in this sense. Remember, the contrast between the opulent Casino scenes and the stairwell fight for instance. Remember those lingering moments of death and brutality? Remember the inspired decision to shoot the opening in black and white and allow the blood to the first colour? Remember those close-ups of Craig looking punished after the brutal kills? Though CR never forgets its a Bond film and still looks and feels elegant and classy.
Personally, I think the CR script is very good. But Campbell's execution of it from a story and character perspective is outstanding. He's helped massively by a great performance from a game Daniel Craig.
However, that isn't to say that the actual execution of CR is a little pedestrian at times. I think the cinematography is actually beautiful in CR (especially early on) but can be a little workman at times (especially compared to Roger and Hoyte) and the costumes and the sets have some bad 90s Brosnan hangover to them. But it's a bloody good film.
CR and GE are probably two of the best directed Bond films. Though, I'll be the first to admit Campbell's other films are pretty awful.
I think the reason people are turning against the look of Campbell's films, may be that from a craft perspective, Sam Mendes's film were top-tier.
With that said, I hate the “Ford Commercial” in Nassau; it’s very heavy handed product placement.
And in case I'm not clear: I love it. The way it was presented, then later Bond Is shown improving his lot by upgrading to a DB5. A fun moment among many in the film.
