As I've said, quit chasing the prestige, give us, and Craig, a solid, classic Bond.
The money is funneled by Americans. Not creative decisions.
An American director will not be able to bring to the screen the elegance and class of the sorts of elitist chaps Bond often has to hang out with. Dress, outfits, body language, food, drink and general culture American directors know nothing about. And that is what separates Bond from the rest of the pack.
What a prejudiced, myopic view. Quite sad.
Has Brannagh been in the conversation, if a English director was chosen why not Brannagh, I read recently he had expressed interest in playing a villain so Bond is on his radar.
P.s. I don't read all the posts there are alot ;)
I've long thought that Branagh should be a Bond villain and I'd support him directing too.
It's not irrelevant. There is a reason why Eon has so far resisted Americanisation.
I’ve been suggesting Ken Branagh for ages. He never seems to come up in relation to Bond tho, apart from perhaps as a potential villain. I thought his Thor was highly entertaining. Not exactly Bondian but showed he can handle mainstream blockbusters and do it well.
How about Ron Howard? He stepped in to save the Solo movie. Sure he’d love to have a crack at Bond. He’s a great story teller as well which Bond has sorely lacked for some time.
Given the opportunity there are several non-British, specifically American directors who could no doubt produce a Bond film in classic form, Spielberg and De Palma to name two, and right now EON would be fools to shun a talent like Christopher McQuarrie. I guarantee that given the task as writer and director, McQuarrie.could make a Bond film that would rival even the best of the series.
Thinking about it, in the 60s and 70s, John Sturges(ice Station Zebra, The Great Escape, The Eagle has Landed) would have been s great choice to Direct a Bond.
Agreed. Saw an interview with him on the BBC around the time of the 2012 Olympics, he seemed VERY UNENTHUSIASTIC about the prospect of directing a Bond - if I remember rightly, claiming that it's just not the type of film he would do.
Also the Variety piece confirms that "domestic distribution rights are currently held by MGM" - i.e. that whole Annapurna joint venture as MGM don't self-distribute. To note, Death Wish only has the MGM branding on it. So would B25.
They should get an unknown prodigy who is hungry to prove himself and not used yet to indulging too much.
Because he has said he wouldn't want to do it. Sounds like they're desperately trying to get a bigger, better name than Demange after Villeneuve and Nolan have turned it down.
I would love to have seen Sturges make a Connery/Moore era Bond.
The Boyle news is the closest to proper we've had in a long time.
He's undoubtedly got press coming up for FX's Trust (which premieres next month) so hopefully they'll manage to lock something in soon.
