Sounds like their in a pinch to me. Nolan , Villenueve , Mendes , & Boyle have turned them down. Demange is too unknown for Craig's final outing. One of the above is holding out I think, I just don't see who their gonna get if not the case.

    Campbell

As I've said, quit chasing the prestige, give us, and Craig, a solid, classic Bond.

Why did Kroll talk about Peter Morgan? WTH does HE have to do with the director of Bond 25?

I’d take the man who directed Bond escorting the Queen to the Olympics in a heartbeat though.

Naah... I don't want any more of those "auteurs". Give me someone who can deliver a film that doesn't feel pretentious that kisses the back end of Oscar jurors' rears.

The next Bond should be more casual and maybe small. DN-esque would be great.

I am glad. Was somewhat petrified that we were going to get an American. Looks like Eon still has their wits about them.

Everybody who feels similar to this, please help me understand: This series was brought to the screen by American and Canadian producers; the current producers are American. Several of the screenwriters have been American. There have been American influences in other areas.

What is the X factor that makes a British director so much more qualified to do a Bond film than an American or any number of other nationalities?

The money is funneled by Americans. Not creative decisions.

An American director will not be able to bring to the screen the elegance and class of the sorts of elitist chaps Bond often has to hang out with. Dress, outfits, body language, food, drink and general culture American directors know nothing about. And that is what separates Bond from the rest of the pack.

What a prejudiced, myopic view. Quite sad.

Regarding a director I think nationality is irrelevant, there are many good directors out there English or otherwise.

Has Brannagh been in the conversation, if a English director was chosen why not Brannagh, I read recently he had expressed interest in playing a villain so Bond is on his radar.

P.s. I don't read all the posts there are alot ;)

Oh yes, his name has been dropped by several as a possible director, villain, or both.

I've long thought that Branagh should be a Bond villain and I'd support him directing too.

I think he is a good a choice as any, though there are two sides to Kenneth if we don't get the Dead Again side I think he would do a great job.

It's not irrelevant. There is a reason why Eon has so far resisted Americanisation.

I think DAF is Americanized and that was directed by a English director.

These comments about an American not being able to direct Bond are pathetic. And I say that as a Brit.

I’ve been suggesting Ken Branagh for ages. He never seems to come up in relation to Bond tho, apart from perhaps as a potential villain. I thought his Thor was highly entertaining. Not exactly Bondian but showed he can handle mainstream blockbusters and do it well.

How about Ron Howard? He stepped in to save the Solo movie. Sure he’d love to have a crack at Bond. He’s a great story teller as well which Bond has sorely lacked for some time.

Given the opportunity there are several non-British, specifically American directors who could no doubt produce a Bond film in classic form, Spielberg and De Palma to name two, and right now EON would be fools to shun a talent like Christopher McQuarrie. I guarantee that given the task as writer and director, McQuarrie.could make a Bond film that would rival even the best of the series.
Thinking about it, in the 60s and 70s, John Sturges(ice Station Zebra, The Great Escape, The Eagle has Landed) would have been s great choice to Direct a Bond.

Boyle will not direct bond 25 he turned them down twice

Agreed. Saw an interview with him on the BBC around the time of the 2012 Olympics, he seemed VERY UNENTHUSIASTIC about the prospect of directing a Bond - if I remember rightly, claiming that it's just not the type of film he would do.
IMO very inspired choice. And the Olympics were 6 years ago, what's not to say Boyle has since turned around on the prospect of directing a Bond?

Also the Variety piece confirms that "domestic distribution rights are currently held by MGM" - i.e. that whole Annapurna joint venture as MGM don't self-distribute. To note, Death Wish only has the MGM branding on it. So would B25.

Why not, given the knowledgable talk about John Barry with the music of TB running in the back in Trainspotting?

They should get an unknown prodigy who is hungry to prove himself and not used yet to indulging too much.

Because he has said he wouldn't want to do it. Sounds like they're desperately trying to get a bigger, better name than Demange after Villeneuve and Nolan have turned it down.

So, do we have almost two weeks till we get some proper news? With Oscars and all that jazz out of the way?

The Boyle news is the closest to proper we've had in a long time.

He's undoubtedly got press coming up for FX's Trust (which premieres next month) so hopefully they'll manage to lock something in soon.

Danny Boyle has said on many occasions that he hates working with big budgets, it just does not suit him. I guess they could try a low budget Bond but its hardly likely is it. I have favoured Brannagh since his hugely entertaining Thor. He has proved in the last few years that he can handle large scale movies and he's never reluctant to go out and promote the hell out of them. He has even said in the past that Bond is something he would like to tackle, although i'm not sure he would suit Craig's era as he said Bond should be more fun. He considers Spy Who Loved Me the kind of Bond he enjoys. That makes him fine by me

Now, I want Branagh even more after that claim.
