Newman was new and his 2 contributions sucked. If a new composer brought us a modern equivalent to Shaken Not Stirred, then I'd be more open to them.

    I don't really think that's necessary and would prefer not to see it actually, because I don't want Barry rehashed poorly again. I believe we need a new sound to take us forward. I've heard some great scores from noted composers over the years, and can see them doing wonders with Bond. Some key ingredients are necessary imho, like great melodies, notable brassy orchestral motifs, and an ability to weave the Bond theme into some tracks in new and innovative ways. Most importantly, they have to be able to 'action score' without making it sound like garbled noise. That's what has been lacking the most in the recent past, in my view.

    Well after the abysmal efforts Newman did there should be the musical equivalent to a screen test when it comes to Bond. I don't want anymore bland generic s***.

    If Mendes wants Newman he gets Newman. Simple as that. Mendes was given the world when he directed Spectre.

    The Barry spirit is exactly what the Bond music needs as well as the constant hint of the Bond Theme every now and then. I'm not watching some regular film with no significance, I'm watching a Bond film. So, that spirit Arnold put in the Brosnan era, minus the techno sounds which I found abysmal at best, is the perfect way to modernize the Bond soul in terms of score. Brasses, jazzy sounds, straightforward music instead of Hans Zimmer noise that randomly hits key notes inconsistently, something that screams Bond and every generic spy tune that replicated since the popularity of Goldfinger.

    Shame we got Mendes on a bad day, when we could have an interested director like Nolan or Wright.

    Newman was fine with SF. I quite enjoyed his score for the film. He just needed more orchestra, a little more Bond theme woven in and more brass. I don't know what budget he had for it, but he did a decent enough job for a first effort.

    His work for SP was pretty poor, but that was par for the course for the film. A massive missed opportunity

    Do the Pfeifer Broz score movies? They should do a Bond movie since their trailer music for the Bond films have been great.

    Agreed, except for the part about techno. I actually loved the techno.

    For me, "Come in 007, your time is up" is the best piece of music in the series. I've driven a bit too fast to it on many occasions...well, if you can call 95 mph fast. My creaky old Volvo complains if I push any harder. :D

    But come on guys does anyone not like the score to casino Royale and quantum of solace, I think it's some of the series best and while it doesn't have near the amount of bond theme, that could be something he producers tell Arnold," hey we like your score just put some more bond theme in it" as opposed to trying some one new who could be another Newman or Serra or just some generic action composer who doesn't understand Bond scores like arnold

    Gent's I'm afraid I cannot agree here. This track is one of the key reasons I am firmly against Arnold's return to the series, despite his notable improvement during QoS and CR. It's because I deeply fear a relapse to this kind of generic tripe (in my opinion of course), which I find quite unforgivable.

    Exactly, It's been almost 10 years since his last Bond score. I know the techno elements, more like "Drum and Bass" elements was a product of the 90's and early 2000's. He dropped that with CR and QOS. I wonder how he's matured in 10 years. Much like Barry who started with a Brassy jazz style that evolved into a rich symphonic style that stuck from the 70's until he retired.

    For his "Incredibles" score alone, I think Michael Giacchino could be a great choice. That score was Barry-esque.

    No one wants to hear more goldeneye bond and onatopp have a car chase none of that? I actually didn't believe it when I first heard it that this was a bond film

    It doesn't take me out of the movie at all, and while I don't defend it or like it particularly, that track is a product of its time. A fun car race had to have some kind of a music in these sort of resemblances. If you played the first The Need For Speed game, you'd know. As well as many vehicle documentaries that came from the period of '93-'96 had these sort of music incorporated to high octane adrenaline bumping vehicular action sequences. Check them out if you like. The 007 Racing soundtrack isn't that different from "Ladies First" either. They just happen to have the James Bond Theme cuing in every now and then.

    Yes I can. It doesn't take me out of the movie either. I don't happen to like that track but it doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the film either. Though the same can't be said about the recycled Skyfall music cues from Spectre. That does take me out of the film.

    @ClarkDevlin, this rescore is right up your alley then. ;)
