It's a stretch, but it could have taken that long to track him down. Blofeld was in hiding for a few years following YOLT in the movie continuity, after all, and Mr. White was supposedly a high ranking operative in the organization. Honestly, trying to tie together Bond chronology is next to impossible anyway. Heck, I bet Spectre takes place in 2015, despite taking place shorly after Skyfall in 2012.

Whatever floats your boat! Certainly Bond chronology is not worth getting too worked up over to me. The only set thing for me is the Craig continuity is separate from the previous actors.

I’m sure this has been pointed out before, but you can see the year “2006” on a disc Bond uses in CR and “2008” on the invitation card for Greene’s party in QOS. Given QOS is set right after CR, small consistency flaw.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you could argue the Mr. White confrontation at the end of CR took place two years after the events of the film.

I suppose if you wanted, but to me it doesn’t make sense why Bond would wait that long.

I don't worry about that. The entire series is based on a sliding timeline, and that hasn't changed with the reboot. The time in which a Bond movie is set is always "now", no matter what past events may be referred to. It's got nothing to do with continuity.

@Torgeirtrap I love when you find these things. Do you look at the furniture or just have a memory for this kind of stuff? It really adds another layer to my Bond movie watching. I would guess that in the modern Bonds there are less instances of this stuff!

@thedove After I happened to notice a couple returning pieces of furniture in the old films, I started to keep an eye specifically for these things. There are surprisingly many returning items in these films by the looks of it! I've yet to check the post-80's films, so I don't know if there are any returning items in these films.

I second this; it's great to notice those instances of recurring furniture. I guess it goes to show you that all the characters in the Bond film are real cheapskates, haha! In looking at those stills I've also started paying more attention to the way the sets are dressed. It's a real delight to do that in a Bond film.

Most definitely! Seeing how they use recurring furniture only makes me appreciate the set designs even more.

I have another item discovery coming up soon; and that's the definition of recurring, IMO!

Recurring pieces of furniture are characters in their own right--they are the glue that holds the series together!

In TB has it been noted that the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud parked at Shrublands as Bond is on the phone too Moneypenny has the rego CUB 1 ?
Next too the red E type and Lippes Ford Galaxy.
Is this Cubby’s car? And the same one featured in AVTAK?

Correct. Just right next to Ken Adam's red Jaguar ;)

    It's an azimuthal map projection:

Wow very cool I didn't know about this type of mapping. I assumed that since the Vulcan had limited range there wasn't a need for a full view of North America. :)

Looks more like a conic map projection to me? And they’re often used for aeronautic mapping which I suppose would make sense for that particular scene.

Right. And guess who was production designer in Woman of Straw? Mr Adam himself! Although the plate is different...

Not the map, but there's additional detail I read today in the Robert Sellers book.
The Battle For Bond, Robert Sellers, 2008.
Chapter 31 - Back to Pinewood
Another big set was the 00 briefing room. Here Adam took a straighforward, ornate room and went into Bond overdrive using absurdly large tapestries that slid upwards to reveal gargantuan wall maps. Today such an effect would be accomplished by within hours by computer; then it was done for real. "There I decided, my God, think big. And I was very fortunate that I knew the great scenic artist called Ferdinand Bellan, who was brought over by the Kordas in pre-war days. He was a brilliant Hungarian scenic painter. I can't remember the exact dimensions, but probably those tapestries were about 50 or 60 by 40 feet. They were enormous. I found a little medieval tapestry and Ferdi copied and painted it. So when you have people like that, who are geniuses in their own way, you can use these things.

Not sure if this belongs here or in the trivia thread:
I never realised before that in QoS Bond doesn't kill anyone of the four main antagonists: Mr. White survives, Medrano is killed by Camille, Greene is left in the desert (Bond wants him to die but he doesn't kill him directly) and Bond leaves Yusef to MI6 (alive!).
DC Bond doesn't seem to enjoy killing main villains anyway…

    Not unusual.

    TB: Blofeld, Largo, Fiona.
    YOLT: Blofeld, Helga, Osato.

True, altough it is more personal in QoS and (imo) therefore more surprising that none of them is directly killed by Bond and some don't die at all. Apart from Blofeld, it was usual that the villains die...

OHMSS: watching it with my boy who may be making this his number one Bond film. We've been doing a Bond-a-thon since he's been home from uni. So far:

1/ a tie between DN and FRWL
    2/ Thunderball
3/ a tie between GF and YOLT

OHMSS, may take sole possession of number one, once we're done.

Anyways, watching OHMSS right now and realized I've never noticed that the construction site that Campbell transfers the safe-cracker to Bond is on a Draco construction site... Watch when Bond peers out of Gumbold's office window and Campbell is tossing the safecracker into the crane...

We see Draco's name on the machinery...

We see Draco's name again later in the scene.

    Mind. Blown.

I didn't notice that until the first time I watched the film on a big screen. But we were forewarned--after all, Draco introduces himself with the line "I'm Draco of Draco Construction"!

I’ve run that statistic for Bond Killing Main Villains before, Connery and Craig have horrible batting averages.

Connery - 2 out of 6 (or 7, with NSNA)
    Lazenby - 1 for 1
    Moore - 6 for 7 (impressive)
Dalton - 1.5 for 2 (TLD makes that an odd one)
    Brosnan - 4 for 4 (perfect)
Craig - 1 out of 4 (pretty weak, so far)

Connery watches as his leading ladies kill the baddie and save him his life! And they say women weren't empowered in the Bond movies! ;)
  • The Brosnan years all had a cheesy 'quip before kill'

    "For England", "No, for me!"
"always give them what they want"
    "she's waiting for you"
"time to meet gravity" (or something like that).

It was like it was the script-writers remit that Bond had to say something to the villain, before he kills them. I'm glad they stopped doing that, for the most part. We did get "last rat standing" though.

Nice he becomes the second Bond to be scarred. Course in Connery's timeline it was shown once in FRWL and we didn't see it happen.

Does Craig go shirtless in SP? I cant recall.
Nice little touch to keep the scar there. Obviously.

The facial scar and the one on the back of his hand are little bits of Fleming I would be happy too see in a future Bond.

The naked Craig during the title sequence is the only time I’m aware he was shirtless in SP.

I’d never noticed that AVTAK is, I believe, the only film where Bond isn’t shown to stay in a hotel! :D
