I might've ranked before, but here's how they are sorted on my ranking list:

    1. Sean Connery
    2. Roger Moore
    3. Pierce Brosnan
    4. Timothy Dalton
    5. George Lazenby
    6. Daniel Craig

Yes, Moore is in the second spot but he's my favourite. Connery is the best because he's the definitive Bond, combining the ruggedness and sophistication into one, whereas Moore is more enjoyable to watch. Brosnan sits at the third, being a mixture of Connery and Moore, with elements of Dalton. And then, there's the rest.

Changed slightly from my previous ranking. Moore went up one spot.

    1. Sean Connery
The definitive, most confident, cool and collected Bond of all. The gritty seriousness of Dalton and Craig, the humor of Moore and Brosnan and the physicality of Lazenby all in one person and more. You want to be him, but you can’t. With Connery, they broke the mold.

    2. Daniel Craig
He can quip with the best of them, but never to the point of silliness. He can be hard and serious better than anybody, but he’s not cold and removed. Craig is just right. He could be naked and armored at the same time, his eyes betraying much, even at his hardest. The most vulnerable Bond.

    3. Timothy Dalton
I’ve only read a couple Fleming novels, but to me, Dalton’s approach feels the closest to Fleming’s Bond in the books. Few ever took their role as Bond as seriously as he did; he returned to the source for his inspiration and it worked out very well. There’s always the consideration of what could have been but what we got from him is easy to appreciate.

    4. George Lazenby
A scrappy fighter and a man of many interests. A man equally of action and emotion. A man equally devoted to his two loves, work and Tracy. The other five actors had at least a second film to ease into the role a little more, but Lazenby only had the one appearance to prove himself as Bond and he succeeded.

    5. Roger Moore
Charming always but serious when the moment calls for it, Moore is the quintessential English gentleman, straightening his tie after dispensing with a goon. He walks through life and flirts with death like he’s strolling in the park. Confident, fun and funny, laid back but ready to spring into action. He was in a few of the worst movies in the series, but that’s hardly his fault, and he carried the torch with ease until his death. Jolly old chap.

    6. Pierce Brosnan
The smoothest Bond of all, Brosnan shot more bullets, jumped from more explosions and caused more mayhem than anybody. A great man of action if perhaps a terrible spy. A chronic womanizer if perhaps a bit remote. It’s harder to see under his skin. Like Moore, he was in a few of the worst Bond movies but he was also in one of the better ones, his first. He was a very popular Bond and still is for many today.

We might not agree on the high placement of Craig and the low placement of Brosnan but I like your appreciation of Dalton and Lazenby.

    Nice read, too. :)

    1) Connery the quintessential
    2) Dalton the Flemingesque
    3) Brosnan the allrounder
    4) Moore the lighthearted
    5) Craig the adequate but not very Bondian
    6) Lazenby the 'Ken' Bond

    6 Timothy Dalton

The best? Sean Connery. My personal favourite? Daniel Craig.

I'd probably rank them like this:

    1. Daniel Craig
    2. Sean Connery
    3. Timothy Dalton
    4. Pierce Brosnan
    5. Roger Moore
    6. George Lazenby

That's not to snub Lazenby - for someone with zero acting experience, he does just fine in OHMSS (which remains my favourite Bond film). He just needed a couple more films to grow into the role more and because of that he sort of defaults to the bottom of my ranking. He was basically just trying to be another Sean Connery, or at least that's what Peter Hunt said he wanted out of him.

Pierce was the Bond I grew up with but unfortunately his films have not aged well for me (outside of GoldenEye) but my fond memories keep him a hair above Roger.

I like them all though. I just tend to prefer the harder edged approach to the character.

I'm just going to update my ranking as I saw I had a draft post in this thread from a while back where Craig was number three. I'm surprised at my own taste from the past. Anyway, to reiterate and solidify...

    1) Roger
    2) Sean

This will never change (I assume). Legends, both of em.

Not too far behind, impeded only by his short tenure...

    3) Tim

    A largish gap...

    4) Pierce

He'll never be my favourite, nor will he by "my" Bond, but I'll always appreciate Pierce. A great Bond, if a little safe, and my issue with his latter films will never be because of his performance.

    5) Daniel

A good Bond, no doubt, but it just comes down to preferring the more traditional take on the character, '62-'02. With the advent of Spectre, I've become less appreciative of his take. I think it would have really benefitted Craig if he had a Bond film where he could really sink his teeth into the role a la Casino Royale, but without the personal angle and without the constant call backs to earlier films (SF, SP). I just think it impedes his performance tbh.

    6) George

OHMSS is a top two Bond film for me. No problem with his performance whatsoever, but with only one film, I can't really justify him being anywhere else.

    Current ranking:

    1. Sean Connery - Yeah, it’s the obvious choice, but still the only right one for me. DN, FRWL, GF, and TB are all A+ Bond films, and Connery puts up 11/10 performances in all of them. His performance in YOLT isn’t near as good sadly, and his DAF one is mixed.
    2. Daniel Craig - Despite a weak entry and performance with SP, Craig’s first 3 films are all very good (CR being my all-time favorite), as are his performances. He expanded on Dalton’s more serious approach, while still very much having his own flavor.
    3. George Lazenby - Though he only had one film, I thought he nailed it. Still kind of tough to rank one way or the other though since he only had that one film. He could have gone higher or lower depending on how long he stayed as Bond.
    4. Roger Moore - The funniest Bond. I love his take on Bond and all his films are pretty entertaining, particularly TSWLM and FYEO for me.
    5. Timothy Dalton - I would have liked to have seen more, but as it stands Dalton is still a solid Bond with two solid films. His take has grown on me a lot with time.
    6. Pierce Brosnan - I hate ranking any actor last, because I love all of them so far, and I think putting Brosnan last is mostly a reflection of his era being the overall weakest. I love GE, like TND, but have some struggles with TWINE and DAD. Brosnan himself is still good though most of the time.

Probably very close to this @FoxRox :

    Connery
    Craig

Then... I'd love to give third to Lazenby because of OHMSS, but Rog did so well for so long, so...

    Moore
and because Laz only did one so we didn't see if he'd adapt to changing times and films, the next has to go to...

    Dalton... then;
    Lazenby...

    1. Pierce Brosnan - He nails the character for me by mixing together well the action grit of Connery, the humor of Moore, and the grit and seriousness of Dalton. I find all four of his Bond movies great, with GoldenEye being the best, and it's a shame he didn't get to do more than those 4.
    2. Roger Moore - He was pivotal in bringing the character past the 1960s and giving him a much-needed injection of humor and fun. All of his Bond movies are good, and even his worst one (which is Octopussy in my opinion) is very watchable. I find him to be the most gentlemanly of all of the Bonds, which also endears me to his portrayal of Bond.
    3. Sean Connery - The original. Laid down the cinematic Bond as a suave, tough, womanizing character and his performances in his Bond movies were all great. Even his performance in You Only Live Twice is decent. However, I find a lot of his films, especially Thunderball, overrated, and I find that he really peaked with From Russia With Love and Goldfinger. His ruggedness, suaveness and sophistication are great and really endear me to his Bond.
    4. Timothy Dalton - He gave Bond an unique, gritty, yet still Bond-like portrayal, and it's a shame that he couldn't get to do a 3rd movie as Bond. Although The Living Daylights is a mediocre film that gets way more credit than it deserves, Licence to Kill improves on them and is a great movie on its own.
    5. George Lazenby - Although his more sensitive portrayal of Bond was certainly unique, aside from his fighting skills I don't really find him to be too special or great.
    6. Daniel Craig - I completely fail to see the hype around him. I find his Bond to be a robotic, monotone, overly-sensitive character who 3 movies in has still failed to get over the death of a woman he loved, while his predecessors would have most likely gotten over it by the next movie and who seems to be excessively brutal and melodramatic.

    1. The Brosniac Messiah - Suave douchness perfected.
    2. Daniel Craig - The deep Bond, ahead of his time.
    3. Roger Moore - Pure Entertainment every second he's on screen.
    4. Sean Connery - The originator and blueprint.
    5. George Lazenby - He proved himself worthy, against unbeatable odds.
    6. Timothy Dalton - He gets an A for Effort.

The Brosniac Messiah's scriptures state that whenever two or more Brosnians are reunited, then they shall perform a pain face.

Brosnan gets unfair stick on here to me imo, he is my 4th favourite x a bit of respect and laying off the ancient ‘pain face’ comments would be welcome x I can think of a lot of ones to say against Dalton but I don’t say any.

Come on, Barry, you know I love Brosnan. The pain face comment was an affectionate one (and was meant to play off the Monty Python reference). Every actor has certain recurring gestures, voice inflections, etc. Moore had the eyebrow. Dalton, Connery and the others had their gestures, as well. Nothing wrong with that. Such things give each performer their own identity. No reason to hide it.

Don’t remember the last time I did this. As of now:

    1. Connery
    2. Craig
    3. Lazenby
    4. Moore
    5. Brosnan
    6. Dalton

Lazenby are Moore are roughly tied for me, as are Brosnan and Dalton. Unless Craig has another SP-type performance or worse in NTTD, which I doubt, he and Connery are comfortably my Top 2.
