I really didn't like Syndicate as much as I wish I did. Poor open world with little to do, very bland missions and characters, poor villain, very weak development of the story, etc. Nothing struck me as amazing or captivating at all, unfortunately. I think the game was hurt coming off of Unity, as they feel too similar in setting and structure, but with even less improvements. I actually like Unity more, especially from a combat standpoint, as Syndicate's fighting feels hollow, and it also had a lot of great customizability that the newer title has a sprinkling of. Neither are amazing games, but I think Unity had more to offer overall, and was the first in the door that Syndicate kind of coasted off.
In the next week the new game will be shown off, supposedly set in Egypt, so that could be interesting. It'll have a lot to prove, however, as Ubi are very weak on their IPs right now. I wish we'd gotten a Japanese game, but for some reason I don't think we'll see the feudal period of the Orient in these games. Ubi haven't ever seemed to like the idea.
Syndicate I found to be a big step back in the right direction. London is brilliant, felt a lot more vibrant and colourful than Paris and the industrial setting gives it a whole new flavour. It was really cool coming across places I'd recognised in real life and seeing them in that time period. The story wasn't as good as the best of the series but felt a lot more original: the two main characters had an interesting dynamic and I loved the villain. I think the best Assassin's Creed villains tend to be morally grey (Haytham, Shay), Starrick was more of an OTT pantomine villain in the vein of the Ezio games but that's fine too, and seeing his slow descent into insanity was really cool. And the missions had some memoral setpieces. The side content was a lot more memorable: there were actual activities unlike in Unity (fight clubs, factories to liberate, etc) as well as story driven side quests given by actual historical characters, which was a cool take and had you doing anything from hunting ghosts to stopping a plot to blow up big ben. The World War 1 stuff was a nice surprise too. It definitely felt like a bit of a stopgap but it was a fun, self aware, over the top take on Victorian London. For me at the minute I'd rank them like this
1) AC II
2) AC Rogue
3) AC IV: Black Flag
4) AC IV: Freedom Cry (if they'd fleshed it out and made it into its own game properly it might be number 1 for me)*
5) AC III
6) AC Revelations
7) AC Syndicate
All those above are amazing games that I find really hard to rank. The next few I don't enjoy very much.
7) AC Brotherhood
8) AC
9) AC Unity
*not counting the other DLCs because none have their own story and protagonist as Freedom Cry and that was the only one to be sold as a stand alone title
And Bubsy the freaking Bobcat (of Bubsy 3D infamy) might be coming back as well.

2. 2
3. Brotherhood
4. 3
5. Revelations
6. 1
7. Unity
8. Syndicate
1) AC1/2
10)The rest
2. Assassin's Creed
3. Assassin's Creed: Rogue
4. Assassin's Creed II
5. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
6. Assassin's Creed: Revelations
7. Assassin's Creed III
Horizon Zero Dawn
I overthrew my first Bandit Camp, stealthily. And to top it off, it was raining, so it was very atmospheric, sneaking around the camp, taking each one out one-by-one.
Since everyone is doing it, here's my AC ranking (haven't played everything)
1.) Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
2.) Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
3.) Assassin's Creed: Revelations
4.) Assassin's Creed: 2
5.) Assassin's Creed: Syndicate
I never bothered with 1 after seeing how bad it was, and haven't finished all of AC III or Unity yet.
It is, so far. The more I play it, the harder it (Horizon Zero Dawn) is to turn off. I've set up a PSN account, and am giving serious thought to trying out multiplayer.
If you do want to give the multiplayer a go on Playstation, you can go to the PSN and there should be an area for you to try a free month long trial. You can spend thirty days with an online game seeing if you like the experience, then the PSN will automatically charge you once the period is over for the next month. If you don't like the online experience and want to wash your hands of it, you can also go on and cancel your service to stop charges coming once the free trial is over. It can get very technical and sometimes Sony make you jump through tons of menus to get what you need, so you can message me or post in here if you run into problems on that front.
I urge anyone who has ps plus account to try it out. It's free. Don't let the slow start and plastic looking characters fool you. This was way better than anything tell tale has put out. You actually get to play in this episodic interactive tale.
Assassin's Creed ranking:
Syndicate
Black Flag
Brotherhood
Assassin's Creed III
Assassin's Creed II
Assassin's Creed
Revelations
Excellent, I might even pay up.
I think they've cut it down to a 14 day trail, but I think I will take advantage of the offer. To try out multiplayer, i'm going to pick up Sniper Elite 3 and 4 (I intended to get the former on the PS3, but never got around to it).
I consider it the best game I've ever played. The single player is where it shines.
I thought it was funny how people complained about the lack of single player in 'Titanfall' (much like 'Star Wars: Battlefront'), just for 'Titanfall 2' to incorporate one and still some fans complained about it being bad.
People will always whine. The only complaint I'd have about the campaign is that I wish it was even longer. Which, when a game leaves me wanting more, that's a good sign.
'Extraction' was my favorite DLC mode, my interest in the game was revitalized with that first DLC pack. The problem with the DLC is experiencing it as soon as it's live, lest you wait a few months and it's impossible to get into any matches.
Here's hoping they bring the third game to PC as well.
Sniper Elite 4
I didn't get around to the previous game, so I am going from Sniper Elite v2 to this one. The missions are not only non linear, but bigger. It took me 1hr 58 mins to complete mission 3, Regilino Viaduct. I could have rushed through it and shaved off a lot of that time. But why rush? That's not the point of these games. I made full use of the now perfected mechanics, soaking up the tense atmosphere.
Having set up my PSN account, and taken advantage of the 14 day trail, i've looked in on the multiplayer lobby, and there is no shortage of games to join. I'm going to finish off the singleplayer campaign first, earning more/all of the upgrades, then tackle multiplayer.
While there are only three maps, the camps from the various films, each round feels different because all the items you can get to help you fend of Jason, from weapons to gas and batteries for getaway cars and parts to fix the phones to call the cops are always changing. You could look in one house and find everything you need one match, or search seven cabins and get nothing the next.
There also seems to be a great variety in how you face Jason. Each Jason "skin" has different abilities so there's always a challenge of how to beat him, and depending on what character you play you will have either the strength of fight him or the stealthiness to avoid him outright. On the Crystal Lake map you can even find the cabin Jason's mom died in, steal her sweater for your character to wear, and use it to stop Jason from killing for a time if he runs into you. And if you die early on other players can call in a grown up Tommy Jarvis that one of the dead players can "respawn" as to come help defend against Jason.
Seems pretty fun. You may know all of the above already, but I didn't know how much you've looked into the game.
I am curious to see how the proposed single player campaign turns out as well. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they scrap that in favour of DLC for the multiplayer game.
@MajorDSmythe, with the game being made by a small team with limited resources, a lot of the future content for the game beyond this point will sadly be predicated on how much money they raise to be able to do those things. I think a lot of the bugs and server issues reported are largely down to the devs not expecting it to be such a success and that so many would be playing it, which is actually a good thing. If they can get the bugs padded out, I think the many fans they've made since launch will give their money to see new features added over its lifetime, from other modes to DLC additions and all the rest.
All of this will take a longer time to effect than if the game was being made by a big team with triple-A resources, but it's nice to see that the game looks so fun and that people have enjoyed it enough to want more. You can tell that the game has been made by people passionate about the series and that's great. It also has way more replayability and fun than past "trendy" horror titles like the Slender series that are laughable compared to the kind of diverse gameplay this one has.
If there was one are of the game that they knocked it out of the park, is the various skins of Jason. Pts 2,3 & 6 look a little odd, because we know it is Kane providing the mo-cap for the Jasons that he wasn't in the respective films. But 7 and JGTH are spot on, it's like watching a deleted scene from those films.
