Yeah, a director's cut. I'll be certain to buy it later this year.

At the box office, this will be the least earning of all the Die Hard's in the US. Overseas it'll do OK though and we'll get the sixth film. It can't be seen as anything but as disappointment though.

I'm glad I avoided this. I have not seen a single mediocre-to-positive review on this film in the slightest. I'll be sure to waste only $1.20 when it hits Redbox in a few months. I haven't been to the theaters in quite some time because nothing has interested me, though 'Dead Man Down' with Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, and Terrence Howard is looking stellar.

It's funny, too, because AGDTDH was the one I was anticipating the most in the first few months of 2013. So much for that!

It was a real letdown. There is potential in the Director's Cut, but there would have to be at least 20-30minutes of extra footage. There's not a single memorable line of dialogue, and I only remember about 2 scenes with any clarity.

Is it not rated R? I hear there isn't even that much cussing from McClane, and his famous line is somewhat muffled. What a joke.

It's a very soft R. McClane swears about 4 times in total and the line is muffled just like it was in the fourth one. However, this is just in the UK cut, the American version is much stronger (somewhere between 15-20 F-Bombs with the famous line unaltered) and I'd say the UK DVD will be the American cut.

At least that's somewhat better news than the four swear words. Like I said, I'll see it for extremely cheap come DVD/blu-ray release, but I won't waste a dime on this in theaters. So disappointed in all these reviews.

I'm guessing the editing WAS bad, and it wasn't just the clips they released?

The editing was a lot better than it was shown to be in the clips. In fact, some material from the clips wasn't even in the finished product from what I can remember. But it was still a bit too hectic for my liking.

The scene where the McClane's run and jump out the window is ruined by Moore and the editor constantly deciding to cut away from that long singular shot of them running through the room towards it, which is something the promo clips didn't do. It would have been brilliant otherwise but it kept cutting to a wide angle of the helicopter which served no purpose for me.

It'll be worth checking out on the DVD/Blu-Ray out of curiosity just to see what sort of improvements they make, but it'll take a lot to make this anything more than a disappointment.

Ahh, that shot looked very cool, too. The one with John unloading the AEK rifle into the window and they jump out? I love singular shots like that, just like the one in the 'Gangster Squad' trailer when the gangsters unload through the theater screen and walk through, firing. That has nothing to do with it being cut because of Aurora, I just love singular shots.

AGDTDH was the most absurd film in the series. Barely DH, honestly, even though the musical cues and Willis' performance was commendable. Action was incomprehensible and I could barely understand McClane's one-liners. Furthermore, the father-son dynamic was derivative and uninspired throughout.

That's the one. It's still pretty cool and Beltrami's music behind it gives it that extra oomph but it's still a bit too edited for my liking.

Me too, I think they look fantastic. There's also a great shot that should have been made a single shot during the opening titles of AGDTDH, as young McClane makes his way through a nightclub. But again, they decide to insert random cuts to other scenes that are quite frankly irrevelant in the grand scheme of things.

There's a fantastic single tracking shot at the opening of John Madden's "The Debt" from a couple of years ago. Almost as good as any shot Scorcese ever offered.

i loved it was it as good as 3 or 1 no but it really wasn't that bad.. I suppose when you've seen leprchaun or Mega Shark versus Giant Octopus its hard to say its bad.

Touchè. But then again, they are Syfy level productions with tiny budgets. AGTDH had a budget of over 90 million :P

And a punch in the face is a lot better than a bullet. It doesn't make it any less painful just because one is preferable to another.

It's not one of the worst films I've ever seen, no. But still, it's the weakest of the 5 films by a country mile.

Agreed but I still will buy it on DVD and it's not the weakest film of a franchise for example Mission Impossible 2 makes AGDTDH look like Skyfall no joke!

Batman and Robin makes AGDTDH look like Casino Royale!

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, nice to see some more MI2 love on the boards. It still stands as my favorite in the franchise, with MI:GP slightly behind it.

It's my least favourite of the M:I series but its still solid in my book with some really good action scenes.

I wouldn't put it at first, probably at the bottom for me in all actuality. That isn't to say I hate it, though. It is like ranking the Nolan Batman films: You know that one of the films will have to be last, but that doesn't mean the film at the bottom of the bag is a bad film in any way, shape or form.

Here's how I rank and look at the MI films right now:

1.) MI: GP- Best mix of action, drama and comedy with the best team.

2.) MI3- Great story and villain with memorable action.

3.) MI-Most grounded in espionage, with an insane climax. Probably the most thrilling, but the plot is very all over the place. This is my least watched of the series, and one I need to see again soon.

4.) MI2- Best action (Thank you, Mr. Woo), and having two equally skilled IMF agents facing off is memorable.

MI2 was probably the best of the bunch and I put that down to a great menacing performance from Scots actor Dougray Scott

I haven't seen the latest Die Hard release, and never really intended to, and from all accounts and reviews, maybe I did the right thing. I think Willis is too old for the part now and they've simply made one release too many now. Where will it end ?

Number 6 is to be the last one, or at least the last one to involve Willis.

It truly is (from my perspective) getting ridiculous now. Don't they know when to stop, or even learn their lessons, in that the most recent seems to be the worst yet and overall failure from what I can ascertain. I just think they've gone too far with these Die Hard releases now, but would a sixth really be that much of a surprise ?

    Really?
A rehash of the action from the first movie. With Cruise entering a secure facility on a wire from the roof.
The bike climax is a joke, smoke cannisters clearly visible for the bikes smoking tyres.
Bike tyres mysteriously changing from road tyres to off road tyres in the blink of an eye.
    Crash mats visible.
Of all the MI films, this one sticks out as having the poorest action. If it can't hide the obvious, then it's poor.

As for Die Hard 5. 1-3 were excellent. Four was horrendous. If five is worse than four (how?) , then I'll be taking a wide berth.

Well I quite enjoy the MI2 action, and have never had a problem with it. I thought MI3 was terrible; I just hate the film, plain and simple.

Do we have a Mission Impossible thread? I would love to discuss this with you.

That's about MI5, not an official MI thread. Plus, some threads don't have exactly what they are meant for in their titles, so you can't ever be too sure.
