I love the era overall. I like the tortured soul take on Bond we have here. It sits nicely in contrast with Brosnan's easy going playboy Bond, and these contrasts are important to the series' longevity.

I love Casino Royale as a piece of work, if not as an easily accessible film (It has too many endings). But it looks gorgeous, the cast is excellent, the whole thing is opulent, like On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Quantum Of Solace is stuffed full of great moments, like Thunderball is, without always leaving the viewer wholly satisfied. I like it rather than love it.

I'm a big Skyfall fan, sorry. I bought in to the hype and have never really seen this one as anything other than deserving of all of that initial praise. I don't worry about plotholes as much as some (it's a Bond film at the end of the day), and I love it's look, the flow of the film and even the last third.

Spectre was great on first viewings, but it doesn't hold up so well with repeated viewings. Craig's more flippant Bond isn't as good as his earlier takes, but it's consistent with the character's development (he is over Vesper now).

On balance I am perfectly happy with the era, so put me down as very satisfied.

Words of wisdom. Variety has kept this franchise a well-oiled machine for a long time.

I've also devised a way we can have a number to compare across all the Bond eras once we're done voting on each. I call it the "Bond Score." Here's how it works:

The percentage points for "Very Positive" will be weighted times 2, "Somewhat Positive" times 1, "Somewhat Negative" times -1, and "Very Negative" times -2. This will be totaled together to get the overall "Bond Score." A perfect score would be 200 (100% "Very Positive" times 2). The worst score possible would be -200 (100% "Very Negative" times -2). The exact middle would be 0. Obviously, these scores will develop more meaning as we begin to compare the scores for each era.

So, let's calculate DC's Bond Score:

    (57*2)+20-20+(4*-2)=106

GE is one of my all-time favourite films and TND makes it into my top 10 Bond films.

TWINE and DAD are in the lower half but nostalgic factors makes me forgive much of what went wrong.

Brosnan was not only a suave and stylish Bond, he was the Bond of my teenage years.

    Very positive.

Voted initially for somewhat positive, but decided to go for very positive.

His films aren't the best but Brosnan was a great Bond who ticked all the boxes. Classic Bond in the modern era. And as my first Bond I just can't bring myself to speak ill of him. :)
  • Very positive. GE is one of the best. TND is a decent follow up, it's fun. TWINE is brilliant and one of the most underrated for me. And DAD is one of my favourite guilty pleasure movies.

I feel terrible any time I'm negative on Brozzer. He helped the save the franchise. He gave the audience what they wanted. His efforts in the role are unmatched.

But, the films, outside of GE, just aren't very good IMO. They're my least watched, and, when I did my own Bond marathon, I stopped in the middle of TWINE and never returned.

Physically, although a good-looking man, Brosnan never felt deadly to me. And I couldn't stand the way he threw a punch.

So, I'm somewhat negative (although appreciating the man, his efforts, how he was part of the glue that made Bond "stick" again with general audiences, and, since his retirement from the series, he has only been a gentleman)

Somewhat negative. Whilst Pierce obviously enjoyed playing Bond, and he put in a fair turn, there are too many moments of negativity for me to just ignore.
His films were popular for 90's actioners. They all made decent money, but he never really had a great Bond film after GE.
I wonder, was the success of GE somewhat based on Bond being of screens for 6 years. If it was not the first Bond for six years would it be so popular.

I don't think so Benny, I recall Brosnan as being a very popular choice, so there was a lot of enthusiasm for him as Bond.

The 6 years break did no harm of course, and was probably a blessing in disguise following a decade where the Bond box office was dropping, the films were treading water and the competition was upping the ante (Die Hard, Indiana Jones Lethal Weapon etc)

GE is my favorite and i love the other movies as well, and the games.
Still the best multimedia era for Bond

Don't get me wrong, Brosnan was clearly the best choice for 90's.
I just wonder if GE benefited somewhat from the hiatus.

I used to be very negative on Brozza's era towards the end of his run.

TND was the film that made me lose faith. After the superb GE (which modernized Bond for the post-cold war era while still recalling the past), it was such a let down. His sophomore effort was the first Bond film I ever saw which gave off a distinct stench of predictability and box ticking (a feeling which I unfortunately experienced again in 2015). I recall walking out of the theatre thinking Bond was now just a generic action hero (the one handed machine gun twirling and Americanisms sprinkled throughout didn't help). Brosnan, who started so promisingly in 1995, just seemed like a lightweight empty suit in over his head as well, dictated to by both Paris and Wai Lin. Clooney outshone him as an alpha-spy in the same year's The Peacemaker. Sadly it only got worse with the horrendously executed soap operatic TWINE (interesting premise though) and the less said about DAD the better, even though it's a laugh and Brosnan finally found his footing as OO7.

Perhaps it's nostalgia, or maybe it's due to my profound disappointment with SP (and the fact that I'm personally done with the interconnected timeline specific Craig era), but I now look back on the Brozz period with some fondness. His films have a light hearted vibe to them. They don't take themselves too seriously and 3 out of the 4 are quite entertaining, even if all except GE lack a certain essential Britishness. I find myself revisiting them often on blu ray. They'll never hold a candle to the 'classic' period from 1962 to 1989, but I do enjoy them more now with the benefit of hindsight. A part of me wishes he had a fifth film, because I think he would have nailed it.

    So I'm voting somewhat positive.

Somewhat Negative - Similar to @bondjames Brosnan's films have grown on me since the release of SP for what they are, but with only one good and three mediocre to bad films, I cant quite bring myself to look back on his era in a positive light.

I still prefer GE to anything that came after it, including the entire Craig era.

Unfortunately, I had to vote for somewhat negative.

I've always liked Brosnan, so I don't put all the blame on his shoulders. It certainly didn't help that they tried to make him a Sean-Roger hybrid (as Pierce himself stated in an interview), which was totally unfair to him.

I still love GE and TND has a great first half. If I were voting for just that film and a half alone, then my vote would definitely be very positive. But we must judge the era as a whole, and everything starts to go downhill in TND's second half. The era just never recovered after that.

TWINE and DAD were massive disappointments in the theater, but time heals, and I can definitely see some of their positive attributes these days. Regrettably, they still reside in the bottom five of my rankings. There's just no getting around that.

For those who grew up with Brosnan, I get where you're coming from. Sometimes it's not easy for me to watch people rip the Moore films to shreds, without even one positive thing to say. Not so much on here as other, darker corners of the internet.

So there you have it. It's probably my least favorite era overall, but GE is still one of the most enjoyable films in the series. Brosnan enthusiasts can always take comfort in that.
