Bond fails tests: I love that these scenes play with formula: our Superman is actually damaged goods— how can he defeat the, at the moment, unseen villain???

Bond fires off target and loses his cool...

Psyche Eval: is this a top five character Bond scene??? I think so! He sits down with a sigh of annoyance...

    Shot
    Provacteur
    Provaco-trix
    Target
    Sky
    Bitch
    Swim
    Dance
    Employment
    England
    ....
    ....
Christ— that word association game is Bond

I love the color palette of the casino scene in OHMSS.

    SKYFALL PICK UP:

Bond paces the "waiting room" (more a prison cell)... he knows his grades are up. He's uneasy, until--

MP comes to escort him... And Craig's biting "I'm sorry, have we met before"... and he goes onto describe the damage she did to him "Nothin major"...

A few on this site have discussed their dislike of the MP/Bond banter... I ask them to watch Craig. He's a very instinctual actor, subtle-- in this scene, watch his eyes, the way he reacts, thinks and speaks. It's "all in the moment" acting. Nice and natural.

I then re-watched the scene with my eyes on MP. I love Naomi, but she was not as good in this scene. Just a little too much swagger-acting and pursed lips. A weaker scene for her.

Bond sees what survived the explosion back at Mi6-- he's looking at himself, the loyal dog for her Majesty that come hell or high water WILL survive...

Mallory enters-- not too fond of the PM I see...

Confrontation with two-like minded men who haven't yet discovered they are indeed, very similar...

    M lies about the tests.

    Passed? Bond wasn't expecting that...

Mallory's challenge to Bond... a young man's game... Was he pressing Bond on purpose...?? Or M???

    Good luck 007--

Shrapnel evidence... And now Bond is on the scent: Patrice... a Ghost... M's orders: terminate him for Ronson. "With pleasure"... and then Bond adds: "is there anything else?" coz he knew he didn't/couldn't have scored passing grades...

M lies to him and reveals to Tanner-- she did indeed lie...

Meeting with Q: Bond waits, stone-cold, dead eyes... Bored... Framed very beautifully, their meeting...

Bond doesn't like this kid with the big ideas about the painting they both look at. Ends the convo quick when he's asked what he sees in the same painting, "A bloody big ship."

    (time for exit)

    Bond stands, "Excuse me"...

    And Q reveals his identity...

Disappointment in Bond with an exhale and a deflated "You must be joking"...

Again, look at Craig's acting. Sarcastic grins and eyebrow raises and a curt "why'd you need me?" as he jousts with this kid... He's bloody brilliant...

The humour Craig has running across his face as he finally calls this kid, "Q"... : priceless

An ally is made, a hand shaken, Bond sniffs with a grin.

The gift of "not-exactly-Christmas" is exchanged.

Watch Bond watch Q walk away before he comments, "A Brave New World"...

  • Skyfall is indeed a far better film than I first took it for. Plotholes be damned, it added some truly fine moments to cinematic Bond and in my opinion the best cinematography in the series, surpassing even OHMSS.

SF and OHMSS would be a visually incredible double feature. They also so happen to be two of my favorite Bond films!
  • Indeed they would! I was thinking I might double up QoS and Skyfall next weekend, but you propose a tempting alternative.
  • Cool, I’ll hold off then!

    Shanghai...

And Bond is swimming and looks like a stud, and I know why Babs wants him coz so do i in those blue trunks and OMG am i saying this or is this my inside voice...

    Seriously--

Bond, at a bar, with no drink nearby... He was a pill popping drunk after the credits, to someone obviously trying to clean up his act-- at least for now. There's a tension to Craig in this scene. A tension of no drinking. And waiting...

And then he comes alive with the text that comes through...

Patrice has arrived at the airport... He looks like a bad ass..

And Bond stalks him-- and looks like a guy who hasta settle a personal score ...

    Following Patrice...

We see how bad Patrice is as he kills a security guard... I do like the more grounded killers of DC's first three films...

    DC continues to stalk Patrice...

Elevator scene-- not my favourite, but Bond hadta get to his nemesis in an interesting way...

The build-up to the assassination is tense-- great music and SFX as Patrice puts his gun together... Heart-thumping... it builds and builds and builds and builds...--

Patrice assassinating the art buyer in the other building is very reminiscent of Bond's first kill as described by Fleming (the killing of a Japanese agent in NY... Having to shoot through the glass twice, one to have an opening, the second to do the kill...)

    The FIGHT:

Original, majestical, wonderful, creative, artistic... I never once lost who was Bond and who was Patrice-- although the fight was designed chaos...

Bond's triumphant-- but loses. Patrice is dead. A lead is gone...

But, he finds the casino chips.

    Awesome...

Once 007 is on a mission in the Mendes films, I don't like when he goes back to London... At least in SF it was a necessary segway

OMG DC in a towel and half naked if i was MP i would so so so so do him, i get why Babs-- wait is this my inside voice?...

Damn I wanna shave DC Bond... yah old ways are best coz, coz, coz...

Honestly, exposition needed to be revealed. To me-- and NOT TO YOU-- this was done in a distracting and sexy manner. So f&*^&*(* shoot me....

DN has begun. The original gunbarrel still gives me chills. Man I love it.
  • Were you thinking QoS and SF or OHMSS and SF?

I can watch TWINE next weekend. Maybe throw in LTK too. Two of my favorites and I’m due for both.

Nothing in this world is cooler than Sean Connery’s Bond introduction. No matter how many times I see it, it only becomes more and more amazing.

    CASINO

love how Bond comes in... Classy... Entering the mouth of the dragon... or hell

He scopes the place with MP working as his support... love the ear-pieces and the reference to "don't touch your ear"; the flirting between them and; the SFX as this couple comes in close contact...

And for anyone who says DC has no humour-- look at his relaxed grin and smile after MP struts by him.

Personally, I think Craig Bond has loads of fun-- as seen by these smiles and snorts he often gives himself...

Bond cashes in the chip-- once again: anyone doubts Craig's talents???? Watch this scene!! Watch his eyes. How he scopes the place. Spots Severine and her guards...

And... Severine is a modern day femme fatale from the pages of Fleming. Tragic, the broken wing... Remember Tiffany Case was born from a brothel, then raped, and never touched another man until she met James...

Severine is in the same mold...

Bond receives the money off of Patrice's chip, but the noose closes-- he's the man in enemy territory

They send Severine to distract, but, instead of throwing off the hero, he gathers more info from her and she actually propositions him (with an amazing performance of a shaking hand, lips and voice): can you kill him...???

But before that-- DC is in finest form. He wants to meet her employer. She tries to escape; he traps her by the wrist and knows what her tattoo (branding) means-- she was in the sex trade...

    Can this be anymore Fleming?

And when she asks if Bond can kill her employer, he answers--

    Someone always dies...

Who the F hates this film???

Now, finally, after an amazing meeting with Severine, and knowing he's about to be killed... Bond salutes his enemies and drinks...

It’s simply amazing how much Connery nails it as James Bond his first film. He’s a delight every scene.

    CASINO FIGHT WITH IGUANAS:

I hate it. Craig is so much better than this physically. It's stupidly comical. Craig acts like a bare-fisted fighter from the 1850s. Terrible and stupid. I blame Mendes. This was the guy who fought Slate in a violent altercation. This SF Casino confrontation feels like a cartoon-- I really despise it and think it rips off the Craig era of reality (and same with the Hinx fight-- although it's better than this).

Those with an issue with this: uh, consenting adults and HAF with these two actors. Grow a pair and come back and chat as adults.
