Good sport Pierce Brosnan congratulates fellow actor Michael Madsen
on his winning of the Best Belt Competition, Malibu.
I actually love this gun barrel. The music, the bullet, everything. Shoot me.
The film opens with a similar shot to TLD.
I've never been surfing. No desire to either. This is good stuff. Music and cinematography is on point.
I like the grim color filter for this sequence. Imagine if it had been applied to the entire film. Wouldn't it be awesome to dull the colors in Cuba and Iceland. No Mendes and Hoytema, it wouldn't.
Brosnan looks older but still good.
Not fond of the shades. I'm a Ray Ban man myself.
Aww North Korea. Glad we haven't heard from them since 2002.
The music cue during the Kazan scene from QOS is similar to the score here.
Moon and Graves.
I've already spotted four nods to previous films. I like it. Celebrate forty years.
Zao's cry of pain is actually played before the explosion as well as after. Never noticed that.
The hovercrafts are pretty cool. It's a great chase. Like a previous member said, it's really the last chase in the series to be somewhat original.
Well, there goes Moon. The same bell sounds from MR. Nice touch.
Saved by the bell. Love it.
The first scenes I ever saw from a Bond film was the first twenty minutes of this film. A few months later, I finally saw GE all the way through. The rest is history.
Great title sequence. Cool fire and ice imagery. I actually like Madonna's theme. It fits surprisingly well. They could've gone more traditional but I can't see a Shirley Bassey like song playing over this.
Kenneth Tsang gives a good performance.
I guess Zao didn't have time to get rid of the diamonds. It looks cool but that's never made sense to me.
Michael Madsen. He does seem out of place but I'm not overly bothered by it.
If we ever had a black Bond, I'd want Colin Salmon. He's too old now though.
Bond being examined on the frigate. First time we've actually had some color in this movie.
Dame Judi. You are missed.
Nice nod to TMWTGG novel.
I like Brosnan's performance but he does overact during this scene.
So did Bond crack under torture or was that Frost?
The heart stopping is stupid but hey it's Bond.
I love the look the look the nurse gives. Callback to the receptionist checking out Connery in DN and TB.
The CGI Hong Kong shot isn't terrible but they should've gone on location.
I like the hotel scenes. Funny and classy.
The beard is gone and Bond is back. Looking good, Pierce.
"I'm not here to take it back".
It's only been seven years since GE, but we're going back to Cuba.
Say what you will about DAD, but at least it's proud to be a Bond film. I don't get that feeling from Craig's even though I love them.
One of Arnold's best cues.
I see what you mean. It's that string instrument. I like that. It's an attempt at creating a distinctive sound.
Agreed.
Nice view from Roaul's desk. They deleted some scenes with his character. Shame.
Nice car.
The hotel is my kind of place.
The only film where we see Brosnan smoking.
Damn Halle looks good. If they'd written her character better, I think she would have been a decent Bond girl. I'll still take her over Goodnight or Madeleine.
The writing here isn't gonna win any awards but whatever.
I think this and GE are the only films to have sex scenes this graphic. What is Jinx eating here?
I wish they'd have put more scars on Bond's body.
"I don't need a goddamn wheelchair." "No? You do now". I love Brosnan and the female character here. I don't think Dalton or Craig could pull this off.
The clinic sequence is pretty cool. Even Jinx is above average here. The doctor is a piece of work.
Zao is one creepy looking bastard. The eyes and the veins.
I hate the slow motion bits. I don't mind quick editing but these are annoying.
They should have done Jinx's dive for real with a stuntwoman. Would have been much cooler.
Was Zao going to pay with the diamonds? That's what I've always assumed.
What an amazing coincidence indeed.
I just noticed Gregg Wilson's name on the Graves article.
Great Arnold music here.
Toby Stephens was born to play this part.
I wish we got to see the scene of Bond arriving in London on the landing gear.
Blades. Madonna cameo. Hell, I wouldn't have noticed.
Rosamund Pike is a beautiful woman.
I love the sword fight.
The return of M. They're both great here. I like the set.
I love this film's color palette.
The MI6 building is pretty cool.
I like the VR scenes.
They seem to change the MI6 interiors a lot
Cleese is a worthy successor to Desmond. Shame this was his last.
I admit it. I like the invisible car. It's the ultimate gadget and that car is beautiful.
Pike's first day on the set was her scene with Dench. Talk about starting at the top.
I would have deleted the dragster and surfing sequence later on. Instead, before the party, include a scene where we see Bond try out the dragster and beat Graves' time. Just to piss him off. Also would have been cool to see the ice golf scene.
"A palace of ice. You must feel right at home".
I love the interior of the ice palace.
"Plenty of ice. If you can spare it".
I like the return of the theme music.
Trippy mask. Kind of psychedelic. What's with the scar on Graves' forehead?
The demonstration scene. Cute girl in front of Bond.
Special effects are pretty decent here.
Cool people don't wear sunglasses? Umm not true. They're my trademark.
Vlad's body language reminds me of Mr. Wint.
God that car looks good. Even when invisible.
I love the diamond mind set. Nice contrast with the icy setting.
"Oh they left ages ago".
Jinx looking good.
This movie really moves.
Would that bed even be comfortable?
Another slow mo shot. Ugh.
"Your mama". That really should have been cut.
Return of the laser watch and mini breather.
I wish we'd gotten Krebs instead of Kil. Even though I don't dislike him as much as others. Never been big on this fight scene. Jinx is annoying during it and we've had better during the Brosnan era.
Cutting off Kil's hand. Hardcore.
Frost has betrayed us. I saw it coming the first time I saw this anyway.
Did Frost unload the gun or take the firing pin out?
Q really saves Bond's ass here.
I do like the ICARUS reveal. Much better than in DAF.
I love Graves' reaction when he hears that his time has been beat.
FYEO reference.
Time for the scene that ruined the reputation of the Brosnan era. Good Lord what were they thinking. Fast forward time.
Banging Rosamund Pike is being desperate? My. Jinx has awfully high standards.
Okay we're back on track.
The car chase. The best action scene of the film IMO. Two gadget cars is an idea that goes back to the treatment for Dalton's third film. I love the ejector seat bit.
The laser barely putting a dent in the ice palace is pretty ridiculous.
I've noticed that every Brosnan film has scenes set in a snowy/icy setting.
Jinx sure needs a lot of saving. It's worth mentioning that Bond seems to get her in these jams though.
I can't believe this wasn't made into a video game.
Zao has a pretty gruesome death.
"Finish it will ya".
Bond saves Jinx. Good. I was worried.
The switchblades are pretty cool.
The good guys try to take out ICARUS. Not so easy.
Good scene on the runway. Great music of course.
I wish the robosuit was less cheesy.
Family reunion time.
Knife to the throat. Go Jinx.
The CGI for the explosions isn't too bad actually. Could've been a lot worse.
I think it would have been cool to bring backthe color filter from the PTS for the finale.
I wonder whatever happened to the pilot.
"You disappoint me". Said by Dr. No, Scaramamga, and Sanchez as well.
Here we go. The plane is in GF mode.
Damn Rosamund looks sexy in that outfit.
The one slow mo shot in the film I like is when the laser strikes the plane.
Decent fight scenes going on.
We need to have a villainous for Craig's next film. Long overdue.
"Woops. Not anymore".
Nasty demise for Graves.
Yeah. I'd be lighting up too, Madsen.
Jinx sure gave up easily.
TLD flashback.
For some reason, this does feel like the end of an era.
I love the cars in the mud. Silly but at this point, anything goes.
Back to London. Bond and Moneypenny finally get it on after 40 years. Took their time. LOL at this scene.
Meanwhile, in Wales...I mean South Korea. Beautiful music.
Halle looks hot here.
"Especially when you're bad". Ehh.
Bring on the Bond Theme. Oh wait. Madonna again. LOL I like this version of the track too. Makes me wanna dance and I don't dance.
Oh God. I'm afraid to say it but I kinda love this movie. 80% of it anyway. Great viewing tonight.
Cheers.
Always loved that line.
Yes, he did. Barry would've never given us a funky score like that. Thank you for stepping in and delivering, Sir George Martin!
On a related note, some people seem to dislike the non-Barry scores of Hamlisch and Conti (not so much Martin) because they sound "dated." I'm not sure what's the problem with that. There can be charm in something dated, and there can be charm in something more timeless. As long as the music is good.
...I suppose they think it's not!
"Pierce, can you please stop touching yourself for a few seconds, so we can get a decent picture?"
DIE ANOTHER DAY
love and appreciation.
Very solid PTS.
I must admit I miss Pierce. While he was Bond I seriously couldn't even remotely consider any one else for the role (unless Tim came back).
Bond looks the business in his suede sports jacket. He's wearing two leather jackets. I should do that.
The climax aboard the plane is what really lowered this Bond to the bottom of my rankings back in 2002. We'll see how it holds up 16 years later.
I am finding this viewing quite entertaining, though.
I find the fight between Vida and Zora in FRWL more entertaining than Jinx vs. Miranda. Also this fight with Graves seems more like something from a Bruce Willis movie than Bond.
Hate to say it, though but this climax is a bit more amusing than SPECTRE's which I fail to understand how that ever made it to the screen.
The CGI is so cartoon like it makes Kirk Alyn's animated flying in the SUPERMAN serials look realistic.
Now Bond and Moneypenny get it on.
Virtual style as opposed to doggy or missionary.................and she gets interrupted.
Bond and Jinx.
So ends DAD.
Enjoyable, yet still remains my least favorite.
Okay, the opening shot is cool but the gun barrel needed to be inserted here. Just have the call to prayer play over it, no Bond theme apart from the already existing cue and have it play during the gunshot, and have it fade to black. Then open the film as it already is. Simple.
Ronson doest look so good.
I really don't like Craig's haircut in this. I think the one he had in SP should have been used for this one as well.
Good music so far.
Decent car chase but it's kinda boring compared to the QOS one.
Motorcycle chase. This could have used the Bond Theme. Also, the CGI faces look pretty bad. Great stuntwork however.
I've always hated the VW Beatles line.
This train section is pretty awesome. Bond straightening his cuffs is perfect.
I guess Eve only had one bullet. Or she was in shock. Must be her first assignment.
This title sequence is probably Kleinman's best work. This is really beautiful.
I was listening to 21 by Adele a lot in 2010/2011 so I was psyched when it was announced she was doing this. This turned out to be one of my favorite themes of the series. It's flawless. Lots of nostalgia for 2010-2013 for me.
Bond's obituary. Nice nod to YOLT.
This film has nods to all the previous films but in a more subtle way than in DAD.
When Ralph Fiennes was cast, I thought that he'd be the head of Quantum and that Bardem would be his henchman. How wrong was I?!
MI6 get some blown up a lot.
The bits with Bond on the beach are kind of an adaption of YOLT. The girl is named Lily, based on Kissy. She found him in the water and nursed him back to health. And she's pregnant. This was in an earlier draft but I consider it canon.
God I hate CNN.
It'd been nice to see the funeral scene.
I know they wanted a tribute to John Barry but I wish they'd kept M's apartment from the last two films.
Not a fan of the New Digs track.
Bond really looks like shit.
I love the word association scene.
Good banter between Bond and Eve.
Ugly dog.
"Don't cock it up".
The new Q. He's alright here but I actually prefer him in SP. Surprising.
Love the fight scene.
It'd been nice to see more of Severine but she'd pretty much served her purpose.
Macau. Last seen in TMWTGG.
Eve returns and shaves Bond. Daniel Craig is one of those guys who looks better clean shaven.
The Floating Dragon casino. Shame it's not a real place. It's gorgeous.
Berenice really is extraordinary looking. Great actress as well. You really believe her fear during the scene at the bar.
I can't imagine the Bond of CR and QOS in the dragon pit fight. It's funny but it does feel like it should be in a Moore or Brosnan film.
I could totally sail on the Chimera.
Beautiful shot of the Chimera at sea. I love the colors and the music.
The island isn't much to look at but I'd take it.
Enter Silva. I was expecting Javier to be a more Anton Chigur like character but he's still great.
This is a great scene.
I don't know why but the flowers with the scotch cracks me up. Also Bond's reaction to Silva's toast.
The sad end of Severine. Oh well.
Only Bardem could have pulled this off.
Ben Whishaw is a pretty good Q.
If Silva was a Quantum agent, I would have had the organization raid MI6 and free him.
This sequence succeeds as being both intense and fun.
I love the train crash.
"Our enemies do not exist on a map". That line has not aged well IMO. Beautiful scene nevertheless.
Decent shootout.
I thought we would have another car chase. Oh well.
Yay the DB5 AND the Bond Theme.
Bond's plan is a little nonsensical.
Possibly the mosty gloomy house I've seen.
I love the Kincaid character.
Some funny moments here.
I love the shots of the first wave of men entering the grounds. Really moody.
Awesome shootout.
The helicopter assault is my second favorite section of the film. The bullets pack a punch and song makes it classic.
Eerie shot of Silva.
Up in flames. The cinematography in this is unreal. Godlike.
And the house goes up in smoke. Thank God.
I HATE the flashlight bit. Kincade should know better. Come on.
I hope we have some underwater action in the next film.
Silva's death is hilarious. M's is sad but very well done.
Nice shot of London.
One word describe the ending. Epic.
However, this is the worst gun barrel of the series.
Overall, great viewing of SF. Objectively, it's better than DAD but I enjoy the latter film more. I love both though.
What would Silva have done with M had Bond not arrived? Would he have actually gone ahead with killing her and/or himself? Would he have procrastinated endlessly? Would he have suffered a mental breakdown? The whole film was about him getting to that situation but it never seemed like he was actually prepared to deal with it.
