Here we go.............train bit. I do like the scene where 007 attempts to school Swann in the art of gunplay. I wonder how Roger would have played this scene?
I must say I've warmed to Madeleine's character. I'm also warming to the over use of the Scooby gang. Let's not push it with the brotherly love angle, though.
The darkly lit yellowish scenes give this film a different tone.
Madeleine looks great here on the train. Craig rocking the white dinner jacket.
Hinx fight is pretty damn good. Reminds me of Connery and Oddjob or Connery and Lippe.
I really am enjoying the viewing of SP, I must say.
Bond is getting creamed.
Torture scene. Bond reminds me of Kermit the Frog when he's tortured by Mel Brooks in THE MUPPET MOVIE.
There really is too much exposition here and dialogue. One well written and properly delivered line can completely sum up a character, and that hasn't happened in awhile.
The music here reminds me of the statue scene in GE between 007 and 006.
Okay that was harsh. Actually this reminds me of the music in the Tom Selleck Jesse Stone films..........which I actually love.

Craig goes to the basement.......................this is where the TWINE Q boat mus have been located I assume. Different time line, different era, though I still connect them.

The centrifuge scene here is a classic. Probably my favorite scene of MR.

I love that part.
Camera pans as Sean goes for a jog in the jungle. I like his olive green jungle outfit. This war-games sequence makes a decent opening, considering it was plotted at the last minute. Connery is in top form here.
The theme song gets a lot of flack, and understandably so. It's not as memorable as YOLT or LALD. That said, to me it's no better or worse than All Time High. In fact I prefer this to the rejected Phyllis Hyman song.
This reminds me: in December of 1983 a MISSION IMPOSSIBLE style espionage program premiered on ABC called MASQUERADE
. It starred THE TIME MACHINE's Rod Taylor as the head of a secret agent agency. The theme song was sung by Crystal Gayle and played over a title sequence that kind of evoked Binder's OP titles. It premiered the same night as the TRON inspired AUTOMAN.
Funny how I have vivid memories of watching those programs.
The head butt is great. The MI6 camera work is exactly the same as Douglas Slocombe's for this film. Reminds me of Tiger's wonderful camera work as the sedan is dropped into the ocean.
Bond is being reamed out by M. Looks like the Mi6 HQ has moved. I actually like M's office here. After watching SP this morning I feel Ralph Fiennes' M is more similar to Edward Fox than Bernard Lee, Judi or Robert Brown.
Klaus Maria Brandauer's Largo has a stylish haircut.
The warheads are stolen and the film is moving briskly. This one I don't have on Blu-ray. but have three copies on DVD.
Fatima blows up Pettachi. Many close ups of her long red nails.

I actually think MGM/UA Home video's "Connery Classics" transfer from 1988/1989 was the best VHS edition. Very bright and colorful.

The panning on this copy is solid actually. They didn't eff up the gunbarrel or the titles.
Only a few minutes in and already it's going back up in my rankings.

When I was in 5th grade we would rent the Bonds pretty much every weekend. The old CBS/Fox VHS editions from either Tower Records or Peaches Records.
Oddly THUNDERBALL seemed to be the one title that was missing from their collections. Peaches might have had a copy. Hard to recall, but unlike DR NO which we rented multiple times, we only rented this one once. Then I bought the 1988 MGM/UA version.
The mink scene is missing. It cuts to Fiona and Derval.
I remember waiting in the lobby of the cinema where I saw NSNA and reading that it was in fact a remake of TB. I actually liked NSNA more back then.
TB became a firm favorite a few years later when ABC re-aired the film and I recorded it one Friday night. This version was a bit more intact, but still heavily butchered. Great colors, though.
This copy does actually look more like the 35mm print I saw screened some years ago. I think the old laser disc was the truest to the cinematic prints.
This version is the "Now you can tell about the one that got away" print.
Also the Bond Theme at the end is the Thunderballish orchestration rather than the DN version.
I cheated. I popped in the Blu-ray instead just to see the Panavision cinematography in all it's glory.
I love the dance between Bond and Fiona.
Felix's infamous continuity error. One of my favorite scenes in cinema history.
Felix's shirt reminds me of something Thomas Magnum might wear. He should switch that red cap for a Detroit Tiger's hat and he'd have the style down pat. Felix P.I.
Time for the orange dingy bit. Great ending. Having watched GE again this morning I can say I prefer TB's last few moments along with the music.

I must say this viewing of THUNDERBALL has reclaimed it as my number one spot.
Domino is still my favorite Bond girl of all time, and Sean is still my number one Bond.
GOLDFINGER has now slipped a notch. Really hard to beat the sixties Bond films, for me, though the Roger years are close behind.
The Orion logo cheapens things considerably. I miss the 1980's Warner Bros logo that originally opened the film.
I do live the opening chords and 007's zooming in though.
I actually remember this opening in the cinema. My folks took me on a Saturday matinee the weekend it opened. My dad was having transmission problems with his car and was swearing up a storm as we were trying to park on a side street near the cinema.
I was a pretty obnoxious kid actually laughing in the back seat. I thought it was amusing.
Still we made it on time with 20 minutes to spare.
The M scene. I do like the set design of Fox's M office. I prefer it to the various offices Judi Dench had. I also like Sean's outfit in this scene.
Max Von Sydow's Blofeld suit on the other hand leaves much to be desired.
Largo has some huge 1983 tinted glasses.
Where Sean in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER looks like somebody's dad, Sean in NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN looks like somebody grandpa
In fact, my grandpa at the age of 53 had the same haircut and wore pullover shirts like Sean here.

I love Fatima. This is kind of hot actually, close up of Fatima's leg. This films showcases Barbara splendidly.
The Lippe fight never fails to hit the spot for me.
Bond wears a lot of tweed jackets in this one like Dirty Harry.
I do like that this version streamlines the missile stealing considerably. Doesn't take long before 007 is sent to the Bahamas.
Pettachi has a classic 1983 mustache. I wonder if that will ever come back into style again?
I think the music during this missile stealing bit is alright.

Bond and Fatima get it on. Pretty steamy scene here cut on the ABC Sunday Night Movie.
Funny how DAD gets credit for being the first Bond film to show Bond in the act rather than post coital, but this film is more so, IMO. Especially with Valerie Leon later.
Bond fights some sharks. I remember this in he cinema. I was a big fan of the JAWS films then, so anything with sharks was cool.

The massage scene is pretty good. I mist say if there were a ranking of sexiest Bond films, this non-Eon entry might be close to the top. I doubt this massage scene would get the film a PG rating in today's uptight PC world. Everything seems to get a PG 13 anyway.
Bond subdues the casino security guard. Great scene, and great performance by Sean.
I don't understand how many consider Connery to be giving a Roger style performance in this film. He's Sean all the way. Completely different style of humor.
Timmy D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That guy does have the Tim hairstyle. I remember a guy at my old job convinced Tim was in this film based on the imdb forums discussion on this topic. He thought Dalton was cast here and groomed for future Bond outings.

Again, another bit I love. Dates the film, but then again it was ahead of it's time as this video game is fairly elaborate for 1983. They're not exactly playing Pac-Man for a quarter. I like the graphics.

Fatima dances down the stairs humming in anticipation of killing Bond. Great moment.
The tango bit ends at the right time before Bond makes a fool of himself and tries to be Fred Astaire. 007 keeps his dignity.
Bond back at the villa.
He eats an apple. I always try that little toss whenever I grab an apple.
It usually ends up on the floor............then I throw it away.
Connery exudes cool. Looking much better here at 52 than in DIAMONDS or YOLT. Considering all the turmoil that surrounded this film Connery gives a great Bond performance, IMO. He probably didn't have nosy reporters following him into the bathroom as he did during YOLT. Being interrupted sitting on the can by news reporters might have made me want to resign from Bond as well. I remember Cubby telling off the press that Connery needed some privacy. I doubt this was an issue on NSNA.
I love the motorcycle chase. It's not too over the top, but still fun. Then the jazz score kicks in. I don't mind the score here, really.
Fatima corners Bond. Another favorite scene for me. Fatima is easily one of my favorite Bond girls. 'Guess where YOU get the first one?"
Good point. Also if he can pull off a blue terrycloth jumpsuit, he can pull off just about anything.
Here comes my other favorite moment: Bond and Felix jogging and biking. Bond in boxers and an undershirt , Leiter in a T shirt, and shorts................. while jogging in black socks and dress shoes!!!!
