Great viewing of LALD. Most certainly hit the spot and remains a top 10 entry for me.

    I have

    THUNDERBALL playing.

The great Paul Stassino and Fiona.
    Classic scene.
I love the atmosphere and mood in this film. Barry's haunting score helps.

This is epic Bond without going too much over the top.

It's my personal favourite. It may be my guilty pleasure, of course, but it is so, so enjoyable.

I was interrupted by life and couldn't finishing commenting on TB yesterday.

So here goes A VIEW TO A KILL.

I love how intelligent Bond is. Only on the M scene a few minutes in and 007 already suspects Zorin as the culprit.

They could probably all go home now and call it a day.

The Eiffel Tower bit was always my favorite as a kid.

Bond and Tibbett arrive at the stables.

    Bond gives Sir Godfrey sh*t.

I love Bond undercover and in investigating mode. I'd like to see more of that in the future.

Ah Stacey Sutton. Underrated Bond girl, IMO. Certainly bear closer inspection.

Bond in his notched lapel white dinner jacket mingling and getting into mischief. I want Daniel in similar scenarios for B25.

I really love this whole bit with the camera ring, check copier, enormous sunglasses and so forth. We even get a great "Roger Nod".

"The Roger Nod" would be a great band name.

I think a musically inclined group of MI6 community members should get together, form a Bond theme Band and call ourselves THE ROGER NOD. Give the Q Music Bond Band a run for their money.

The AVTAK Roger track suit. It would break tradition and be remiss for me not to again comment on it as I watch this epic Bond adventure.

I remember in the mid '80's break-dancing was all the rage. My Dad and I after watching 007 play a then new- fangled video discussed whether Bond could pull off break-dancing next. He felt if Connery could pull off video games, then Roger would be the better break dancer. I pictured Roger in his track suit here moon-walking.

The famous fight in the warehouse scene. I actually like it and find it funny.
Especially when the guy's hat comes off.

Mayday has nicely manicured nails. She then kicks Zorin's arse.
Another scene I always liked......but the film's main highlight is coming up.......

"Mayday! Where have you been? I've been waiting for you..........to take care of me personally."

Bond is lucky that tactic worked.

"The things I do for England" line would have been great here.
Zorin isn't even remotely jealous unlike Maximilian Largo.

Office scene with Zorin. Roger looks impeccable. Suave and dashing.
    He is extremely cool here.

Macnee looks more or less the same as he did on THE AVENGERS.Great series.

Another bit I love the steeple chase. One great Roger moment after another. I love his reaction to "Inferno".

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Bond takes a thrashing. I love moments with Bond in peril. Right out of a serial cliffhanger.

I still maintain the opinion the Bond films better tip their hat to the classic golden age of Hollywood serials that the Indiana Jones or Star Wars movies. I certainly don't feel it's an intentional as the Star Wars or Indy films, but one could certainly split a Bond film into individual chapters each ending whenever 007 is in peril.

There is one obstacle...........I love Zorin's arm raising gesture. I do that whenever demonstrating something and showing off. It's usually funny. I owe it all to Zorin.

    Intuitive improvisation.

Anthony Chin bears a striking resemblance here to an old friend of mine who was wonderful in collecting old and new movies. One could randomly tell him they're on a Maud Adams fixation and want to see all of her movies. Within hours he'd have a complete collection of DVDs ready to present. Wonderful man who we lost seven years ago.

Speaking of Maud...................yeah still don't see her, though I'm tempted to think it's the woman next to her boyfriend yards behind Bond and Lee.

    Underwater bit.

Another great scene, IMO. Bright yellow walkman. Ah, the mid '30's.

Bond again in peril ...........see TERROR AT CITY HALL! Chapter 7 of A VIEW TO A KILL next week!

    POLA IVANOVA!

    JAAAAMES BOND!

I'm actually glad this didn't turn out to be Anya. That would have been distracting, IMO. Fiona is great here, and has wonderful chemistry with Roger.

Swan Lake is one of my favorite tunes as well.

Reminds me of the Universal Monster films: DRACULA and THE MUMMY.

Mr Howe seems kind of like an a-hole person to be one's boss the way he treats Stacey.

I'm glad when Zorin shoots him. If this had been a Craig Bond film I'd be rooting for 007 to do the job himself.

Stacey has become one of my favorite Bond girls in recent years. Similar to Kara in that she's a character presented with an every day type of occupation who gets involved in a Bond situation.

Like Kara, she handles herself in the fight scene quite well for someone untrained in combat. However, she's fighting thugs old enough to be Roger Moore's grandfather. No screaming necessary here. Let's save that pleasure for a bit later shall we?

The film should have ended with her screaming her lungs out in the shower, and Q breaking a sweat.

    YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We finally get to see Bond eat eggs as in the novels. I suppose he did so in OCTOPUSSY as well.

Roger has some amazing facial expressions here.

Wine With Stacey. One of my favorite music cues in the series.

She's getting turned on by Bond's suaveness.

    Well, those.....baboons could come back.

    I hope not.

One of the great exchanges in the Moore era.

Bond, ever the gentleman tucks her in nice and comfy.
I suppose, 007 isn't exactly a telephone repair man, and hadn't brushed up on this skill prior to leaving for San Francisco. No wonder it took so long.

Definitely agree! That's peak Rog' nod right there!

Here we go, the City Hall section and Mickey G's cameo

    Yes!

I still feel Roger should have worn a LALD style black turtleneck under his jacket here. That would have looked great................

    ................and no more Howe.

Great actor. He was quite prolific in television for years after this film was released.

    Bond in the elevator shaft......................

see FIRE TRUCK FOLLIES, CHAPTER 8 of A VIEW TO A KILL at this theater next week!

Nice homage to SUPERMAN THE MOVIE here.

All we need is "Say, Jim!!! That's a BAD OUTFIT!!!!!!"

Arnold Williams could have returned in a cameo.
Come to think of it, that would have been kind of cool. I wonder what ever happened to him?

Not to crazy about this "Bond James Bond" rendition here. Maybe it's the Dick Tracy line?

I'll take it over some of the later ones, though.

I prefer how he says it to Stacey moments later.

I'm at another Roger nod moment on the fire truck. Similar to EYES ONLY that they both have back projection behind him.

I know many fans would have preferred Timmy D. in this film, but I'm having difficulty picturing him on the fire truck:

    SWING THE BLOODY LADDER BAAAAAAAACK!!!!

I actually like the fire truck chase. It's reasonably funny, even though it adds nothing to the plot. We do get some great Roger expressions here. The cops laughing at the chief's expense is pretty good as well. I kind of place this alongside the Mustang chase in DAF.

Yeah, Daniel Benzali. Today he looks like he could play a main Bond villain. Very intense, imposing presence.

For years this one ranked towards the very bottom for me.

Today when I watch it, I thoroughly enjoy AVTAK and tend to defend it's shortcomings, or elements fans and critics criticized. Stacey Sutton, Roger's age and so forth.

I think Tanya was great and Roger looks just as dashing as ever.

I must admit after more than a decade of dark brooding personal angst Bond, I'm really longing for serial cliffhanger, fun filled, action packed Bond.

A music score can make or break that style, though.

Just hearing "Destroy Silicon Valley" is enough to make me want to watch this one over and over again.

Bond and Stacey in the mines. Wouldn't that be funny if Stacey had kicked Mayday's arse in this bit?

    And the flooding starts..............

Bond is so great with her in the shower she can't help but scream. Q watching would be a bit naughty.

The Golden Gate Bridge scene. I love the little wave Zorin gives Bond.
The model work and sets are very impressive, as is the back projection. This is a great Bond ending , IMO.

    Classic explosion as well.

THAT is not the soap! Classic Roger. Ha Ha OOHH!

So ends AVTAK and my 8,000th milestone post.
Thanks to this thread I've now reached 8,000 comments.

I wonder if I can get to 16,000 by the time B25 comes out?
  • Great comments @ToTheRight! A View to A Kill is another favourite of mine. I feel it and Live and Let Die, feature the best of Roger's 007 performances. Which isnt the most popular opinion here, but! I have to say John Barry gives us one of his best soundtracks here too.

Thanks, @ShakenNotStirred . I agree. Roger's performances in LALD and AVTAK are excellent. Barry's score here is one of my favorites. I've been whistling it since the movie ended. Sticks in your head in a good way.
