Enjoyed Captain Marvel a lot, despite the awkward structure of the first hour or so. Larson is good, the de-aging on Jackson is pretty seamless, Ben Mendelsohn is excellent and both the soundtrack and score are on point almost the whole way through.

I liked it more than Black Panther.

I really wasn’t sold on the movie. I thought that the pacing of the jokes and action were poorly handled. The character of Carol was quite snippy and flippant which was a misjudged attempt at trying to make her ‘cool’.
There is a decent message there with what they were going for about immigrants and judging a book by its cover, but that was undone by the involvement of having US airforce pilots saving the day.
It’s as if all involved were constantly second guessing themselves throughout production but ultimately threw their arms in the air and said ‘screw it, that’ll do.’

The more I think about Captain Marvel, the more I'm disappointed in the development of Carol Danvers as a character. I certainly do think in 2-3 years time we could get the equivalent of a Captain America: The Winter Soldier where she becomes a much stronger character. Interesting to see what the Russo's do with her in Endgame.

Audiences do seem to love it though, as it got an A on Cinemascore, which I find to be more accurate than RT or IMDB.

Make of this what you will...

It’s also being reported that Captain Marvel had a steep 36% Saturday-Sunday drop in China, which is more than normal.

It also seems that RT 'restarted' the audience ratings for the film which were incredibly low but are now around 60%

This film still looks like it's going to be massive but Brie Larson certainly seems to have a knack for rubbing people up the wrong way...

I saw Captain Marvel. It was typical Marvel Studios flair. Brie Larson was okay, it's always Scarlett Johansson who rubs me the wrong way. (No facial expressions, dull voice, big Woody Allen supporter.

This is all anecdotal and probably far from the truth.

However, I'm doubtful that the film will have box office legs considering the so-so reviews and not-so-hot RT score. Especially if it's already seen a significant drop in China.

I'd say it'll probably finish around $850million, despite the drop.

Just saw Captain Marvel, and we loved it. Sure, as a comics fan I had a few small gripes,
    like Mar-Vell being female,
but overall it was an excellent origin tale, and a perfect set up for Endgame.

I saw Captain Marvel on Saturday. And my God, were the audience annoying. Constant commentary the whole way through the damned movie.

Saw it with four mates. One was lost, haven't not seen a Marvel movie since, ironically, Guardians 1; one mate said "nothing happened" while the two of us who were left, enjoyed it.

Big, daft, colourful and undemanding. Like the rest of the Marvel canon, you could say. Not up there with the best (Winter Solider, Infinity War, Guardians, Ragnarok and Black Panther) but good, nonetheless.

The story was fine, if a little cliched. But that what Marvel does -give a new spin on tired ideas. The cast was mainly great. Sam Jackson was a standout. His and Brie's chemistry throughout was the major highlight. Very impressed with the deaging. Not so much with Agent Coulson. Maybe it was because of his hair.

I wasn't expecting Captain Marvel to be so linked in with the other Marvel films. Which was a nice surprise. Gives it validity, I guess.

And onto Brie Larson. Personally, I thought she was good/great. She spend the majority of the film as a brainwashed Kree warrior, so how much personality do you expect her to have? But Brie does display some spunk, even if Yon-Rogg was trying to wipe out Carol's humanity.

One of these days I'm going to have to try a Marvel ranking.

Marvel Studios is setting Destin Daniel Cretton ('Short Term 12') to direct Shang-Chi, its first superhero movie tentpole franchise with an Asian protagonist.

Given their history thus far, I'm sure it will be at least enjoyable. Might be great. For SURE it will not be the Shang-Chi from the 70's & 80's comics... we shall see.

ENDGAME trailer was average though glad it is as the more tight lipped they are at this stage the better, no more trailers or teasers for me until I see the film.

This looks good, except for the daft GOTG. "Whatever it takes"-talk about heroics.

@ShakenNotStirred Gunn will be directing BOTH The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the former will be filmed first.

Happy to hear this. I'm not too excited, personally, for the soft-reboot of Suicide Squad. But I couldn't think of anyone else to finish his GotG trilogy.

Out of all the Marvel news this is the one I’m most happy about. GotG without Gunn directing would’ve taken the gloss off the movie.

I've seen and personally enjoyed Captain Marvel. Felt the first half dragged a bit, but I honestly don't see what anyone's problem is. Brie Larson's fine in the role, Ben Mendolsohn's fantastic and Samuel L Jackson gets more to do here than any other entry since Winter Soldier. Nothing uncanny valley about his de-aged face, either. And I loved the cat.

I’ve just seen it in 3D. I agree that the first half drags - certainly the first 20 minutes or so before Sam Jackson turns up. I’m not entirely convinced by Brie Larson or her character’s backstory. When her origins were finally revealed by way of a jumbled flashback I didn’t feel invested in her enough to feel anything or share her triumphant moment. There was also something off with Annette Bening‘s performance. She seemed totally unconvincing in her role. I loved Sam Jackson. The guy could read a telephone directory and make it sound entertaining. Overall I wasn’t disappointed as I thought I’d be. It has some very good moments. For me, Brie doesn’t sell her character like Gal Gadot did as WW, nor does she have the same screen presence. I don’t really remember her in Skull Island and here I was struck by how plain and ordinary-looking she was. I don’t know why but I kept thinking of the Eighties pop singer that went by her mononym Tiffany. Brie is like a shorter plainer version of her. Maybe it’s just me. The whole thing sagged when Lashana Lynch turned up for some overwrought acting. Fortunately these scenes didn’t last too long.

My verdict is it’s got enough to still be an enjoyable Marvel movie. I enjoyed it far more than last year’s Black Panther, principally because of Jackson’s acting and the cat, plus the effects were good. Jude Law’s not bad either. It’s probably middle tier for me, which means it’s just okay.

Well, it looks like it wasn’t just me that thought Brie Larson was very plain in the looks department. Over in China people have been posting comments on their social media saying that Captain Marvel isn’t attractive enough. There’s an article written here by a female journalist that delves into this in more depth.

Captain Marvel will cross the $900 million World Wide mark tomorrow. The $1 billion milestone is now very much within reach.
