Congratulations! And welcome to the '82 club, mate. Our year of birth is without a doubt the best film year EVER. We are indeed a very rare breed. Anyway, thanks for the invitation to your party. I'm coming, but I must have misplaced the exact address. Buckingham Palace, room something something?

Close enough. I'm moving into No. 10 soon. Heard there's going to be a vacancy. ;)

Well, I'm sure you can do better than the current and previous residents. And when you're in power, please don't forget about me. I would make a fine minister of education. I want 55-hour school weeks, and at least 8 weekly hours of film studies in every curriculum. No one likes maths anyway. Well, I do, but I'm willing to "forget" that if you reward me royally. See? I'd make an excellent politician.

Certainly. Education is very important and I'm not sure that successive governments have always got it right in the past. You could be my Secretary of State for Education. Would be good to have someone with actual real world practical experience of their portfolio in my Cabinet. :)

We're certainly old enough to start wondering when those boomers are finally going to quit politics, watch their game shows and sports channels, and leave serious matters to us, young but experienced and open-minded men. ;-)

Yes, it's scary to think that the next prime minister might be close to our own age (if Rishi Sunak, born in 1980, were to take over). I am involved in politics at a very localised level but I don't think I'd ever want to stand in any kind of election. I much prefer helping behind the scenes than being front and centre. I've been interested in politics since I was a child in the days when John Major was prime minister and I even wrote down the majority Major got in his leadership reelection in 1995 in a little red notebook. My late father found that rather amusing. I was clearly a strange child. :)

My 50th Birthday, I have spent it listening to Lalo Schifrin's Bullitt, Enter The Dragon and JB's Diamonds are Forever score so far, awesome soundtracks.

I am not interested in going out to celebrate (I worked last night a bit tired) going to watch one of my all time favorite films... The Wrath of Khan.

Cheers mate, I am being selfish now though it is my birthday now listening to Bond77.

Being serious some genuinely kind people in my life have made it a great day and I hate birthdays usually, I am thankful to them.

Very true life can get busy sometimes though you have to find time to unwind and switch off.

Bond is my escapism, when it gets too real world it is no longer escapism.

The films up to LTK are pretty incredible in there own ways.

I prefer the older classic Bond films up to 1989 as well but I can see the good in anything Bond and I enjoyed the Craig era.

GE and CR and QoS I rate highly the other films post LTK I struggle with.

Either PB is given a terrible script or DC has bad characterization relative to his first first two films which take me out of his last three films.

DC you could argue plays at least 2 different versions of Bond.

CR and NTTD Bond are different people and not because of a character arc.

The scene when Bond fights Primo always irritates me, CR DC would have put Primo down no messing about.

I suppose you could say the same about the Connery and Moore eras but with the Craig era it is perhaps more noticeable as the stories are all so linked together. There is a jump between QoS and SF that is never really explained as there are probably about two Bond films missing there.

True I did consider Connery and Moore when typing, it may be a biased opinion in that in DC's first two films I think they defined his Bond extremely well as hard edged and unrelenting and then just abandoned it,.

Regarding SF, Bond near the end of his career and worn out made no sense to me, it was too early n DC tenure to do something like that, also not a fan of the 3rd act either.

Regarding Moore FYEO was the main departure for me, great film one of his best performances.

Edited: I was listening to a podcast a few days ago and this often crops up, if John Barry had scored FYEO, dam those tax issues. FYEO with a John Barry score would have elevated the film tremendously.

    Happy Birthday @Fire_and_Ice_Returns 🎂
I concur about Bond post LTK. Both CR and QOS are superb, everything else had major issues, though I still rate Craig very high despite the diminishing returns in his last 3!

Cheers pal, we can only hope. I will be lucky to get half of the Bond films in my latter years than I did in my former at the current rate lol
