    The CGI tsunami completely killed Die Another Day for me. So utterly wrong in a Bond film. Not watched it since, and I'm a huge Bond fan. Such a shame Brosnan bowed out on that film. He must have watched Casino Royale through gritted teeth.

    Spot on, Barry. DAD may be a train wreck in some sequences, but as I've said time and time again, the one sin it never commits is being utterly boring.

    I probably prefer DAD to Spectre but I find Spectre very entertaining. It's peppered with Roger Mooreness. The other day it showed up on TV. I wasn't going to watch it but I wound up watching 45 minutes. I was hooked. Hooked on Spectre. Is there a rehab clinic for that?

    Why compare them? What, as the nadir of Bond? Spectre is better than Die Another Day by about 93 million miles, or 1 AU, the distance from the earth to the sun. Not even close. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.

    Hell, AVTAK is at least 5 times better than DAD and I don’t much care for AVTAK to put it mildly.

    Expanding this a bit more: DAD has a fascinating story, way better planned than SPECTRE's. But... in terms of editing, music, costumes and cinematography SPECTRE holds the winning hand to me.

    Totally. DAD's music is a bunch of electronic sounds I don't really like, except for "Welcome to Cuba", "Some Kind of Hero" or "Going Down Together". While SPECTRE (despite being a reprise of Skyfall on many tracks) has really beautiful love/ambient tunes: "L'Americain", "Donna Lucia", "Madeleine", "End Titles", "Secret Room". They all get to my soul instantly.

    I couldn't care a damn about DAD but SPECTRE I was ready to be blown away and entertained, not frustrated and disappointed.

    The last 3 Brosnan films languish near the bottom for me and they are above SPECTRE.

    I've never been more angry with a film in my life, to take what I thought was pretty much my favourite run of Bond films and then bring it to a crashing halt with the 4th film.. well I'm still coming to terms with it.

    As for Skyfall being the nadir of the series and SPECTRE being better, well it just shows us Bond are varied body of people with varying opinions but you'll never convince me that SF for all its flaws is even in the same ball park as SPECTRE in the quality stakes.

    SP was pretty much a product of what "the audience" wanted after SF. SP was SF's rather disappointing apple not falling far from its tree. Quality-wise, SF wins. Why? It handled the film far better than SP did. It knew what it wanted. SP wanted to please SF fans while also trying to harken back to the old Bond films by coming to full circle, and it didn't work.

    Still... I'd take SP over SF any day of the week. Twice on the weekends.

    And in the end... I'll take DAD over any of the Mendes films thrice per day in a month.

    I'll take the unhealthy, greasy, cheap fast food over an awfully prepared, over priced and under cooked Michelin star meal anyday.

    I've never been a Bond for Bond's sake kind of fan.

    Hammering me over the head with cliches and series moments that the audience has come to expect. To me personally does not make a good Bond film.

    So I've never bought defending SPECTRE that way over Skyfall.

    There's only one thing worse than DAD in cinema history and that's Indy4. I prefer to disavow both of them. As far as I'm concerned, they're rumours and didn't actually exist.

    these two films failed in what they were trying to achieve.

    But SP looks to be a better crafted film, with better set design and costume design, with a better (IMHO) James Bond playing the role, beats DAD into a bloody mess.

    If someone would have told me there'd be an almost perfectly unanimous agreement on a die hard James Bond forum that Die Another Day was better than a Daniel Craig Bond movie after his run of 3 (especially considering the second one has a lot of defenders on said die hard forums) I'd have laughed my ass off.

    Yet here we are. And I'm in agreement. DAD does what it sets out to do better, even though SP does have many elements that I'm fond of, it often feels so soulless in a way that the other formulaic Bond films don't. This one was too self-aware in its formula, too postmodern if that makes sense. Soulless. And do not get me started on the Blofeld plotline they wove for this.

    I'm much more of a Specret apologist than most on here, but I've been defending (relatively speaking) Die Another Day for a long, long time, despite its abysmal final reel. Both have redeeming qualities, but the latter is "better" overall. I think. More earnest, and far more energetic (SP feels creaky, exhausted, lifeless).

    It comes down to this...I would rather watch DAD. And Brosnan is superb in that film. People dismiss his performance because of the film

    To me, DAD has a bit of that "it's so bad, it's good" factor (although the first act of DAD is much better than most like to give it credit for), that said, I think Spectre is unequivocally the better film. As a follow up to Skyfall it was an absolute disappointment to me, however it could've still been a top entry in the franchise if it weren't for;

    1. The retconning of the entire Craig era
    2. Wasting Christoph Waltz
    3. Aside from the opening sequence, the action being woefully boring. It feels like watching someone play a video game on "easy" difficulty.

    I really don't want to say it but due to the fact I really don't care about the PB era and do really care about the DC era and SPECTRE seriously let me down, it's DAD.

    Believe me I don't want it to be but there you go.

    Apart from some of that unnecessary camera zooming in and slowing down, this is an enjoyable car chase. The Ice Palace looks decent too.



    I don’t hate the SP car chase as some do, but I guess they were aiming for balletic and it makes it slow. Placing the chase after Hinx tough entrance into the previous scene was a mistake as tension is lost, and the chatter with MP in mid chase is a puzzle.
