The cab crashes leaving Bela and company stranded at Karloff's odd looking mansion.

I love scenes set in the middle of the night.

    Karloff rises from his bed.

Boris Karloff looks the business in yet another excellent Jack Pierce make-up.

Now THAT is a widow's peak.

In addition, it's a pretty cool looking haircut.

Boris almost looks like a vampire himself. I wonder what color his robe is here? Black? Deep blue?

Both Lugosi and Karloff had amazing voices.

Have you seen ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (1932)[\b]?

Long ago I rented it. It's probably been 25 years. My Dad had a friend who owned a video store specializing in horror/cult and noir and that was one of the films I got there.
    Quite an interesting film.

Bela freaks out when he sees a black cat.

    Supernatural perhaps. Baloney, perhaps not.

Bela and David Manners are roommates.

    Boris interrupts...............

    Bela has some cool pajamas.

The sets and costumes in this film are excellent.

    I love the score.

The music is pretty much continuous throughout. Works well here, but not as iconic as say, Franz Waxman's score for BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

Karloff has a great smoking jacket here.

    The chess match.
Around the time of this film, there was a great short clip of Bela and Boris playing chess to see who would lead a in Hollywood parade.

This one is easily my favorite Lugosi/Karloff pairing.

I can watch THE BLACK CAT multiple times per year and not get bored.

Getting towards the climax with the Satanic worship sequence and Karloff being skinned alive by Bela.

I get those two and THE BODY SNATCHER confused sometimes. In which one does Lugosi skinny Karloff alive? I think it's TBS. That's my favorite of the bunch.

He skins Karloff alive in THE BLACK CAT.

THE BODY SNATCHER is great as well. AN RKO horror classic, and the final pairing of Bela and Boris.

    I'm at that scene now.

Bela's hair is messed up and about to use a scalpel on Boris.

Great fun watching THE BLACK CAT.

I'll probably watch some more classic horror soon. But for now, off the hit the hay.

Hope you enjoyed the posts. Good night.

I saw the 1931 version of Dracula for the first time last October. Absolutely loved it. Always been a fan of the vampire genre. Except for Twilight lol

Me, too. I love Universal as well as Hammer Horror. I may pop one in tonight and comment on it.

Right now I think it's time for some Bogie.

    THE MALTESE FALCON (1941)

    I love the Warners logo.

Directed by John Huston. He did so many classics in his lifetime.

In honor of the fact I watched AVTAK yesterday, here's some more San Francisco.

Some day I should visit that city. Arguably the definitive city for film noir.

    Floyd Thursby. Great name.

Bogie rolls his own cigarettes. Pierce did that on Remington Steele, when he tried his best Bogie impression.

Bogie's partner Miles Archer is kind of a dork. Perfect target for him to get killed early on. I had a friend whose' business partner was named Miles. He was an aggressive sort who I imagine might get his a$$ kicked if he ever opened his mouth to the wrong person.

    Bogie's Miles, however gets shot.

    and down he does............

This film was my introduction to film noir, and Bogart.

I love every frame of this classic.

Poster for SWING YOUR LADY in the background. One of Bogart's least favorites of his career.
I wonder if Huston placed that in the background to needle Bogie?
