Now we know that the title No Time To Die was 'appropriated' from the most unsettling of all the Columbo TV shows (1992), can we at least hope for rather more originality from the screenplay of the upcoming Bond film? I, for one, am still deeply concerned about the involvement of 'woke' Phoebe Waller Wotsit as a co-screenwriter.

The title comes from one of Cubby Broccoli‘s earlier films.
No reason to be concerned about having successful writers involved.

Woke means social justice and inclusion of all races, gender, etc, and that's a good thing. Phoebe wrote some of the female co-stars lines, using her witty humour. Maybe even re/wrote some of Craigs lines. Who knows..

I can see the poster "Daniel Craig as James Bond in NTTD"

Bond fans worldwide would go nuts trying to figure out what it's short for.

I'm optimistic about PWB. Who knows? Perhaps the new film will have some of the most memorable dialogue in the series?

I'm mainly just amazed that people still use 'woke' as a sincere insult. It's utterly nonsensical.

I agree. I like it far more than the other Eon made up titles with the word "Die".
I think we're in for another excellent Bond film.

I’m just happy for some new writing blood, and not just P & W themselves, playing the we’re done with Bond game. They didn’t even know how to write one when the project started.

Ironically it's the people calling out 'wokeness' that are actually creating it and making it a thing. 'Woke' is just a big lie influenced by political context. For example, people moaned that Nomi's line in Jamaica undermines James Bond as a character and an agent, but cut to 2006 and we were all loving the train sequence where Vesper (universally considered one of, if not, the best Bond girl) basically rips into Bond, but because the context of Nomi's character is dripped in accusations of 'wokeness' - it's a problem. If we had that train sequence today isolated in a marketing campaign, the same people would be moaning.

The fat american orange guy - you know who - complained about woke in his latest rally the other day. And the rednecks clapped along. No wonder it's spreading like a pandemic (no pun intended)

They still have time to postpone the release just once more, this time in order to change the title. How about
Tomorrow Has No Time To Let Diamonds Live Twice Another Day
Of course, you gotta really emphasize the "Di-" in "Diamonds"
It's a hidden, "Easter Egg", "die", you see ?
It's just non-sensical enough to be a great title, and it might become the film which would get THE ENTIRE WORLD and NOT JUST FOLKS ON THIS WEBSITE using the Initials only, such that it would be
    THNTTLDLTWAD
Hmmm...Looks like "Thindle-wad", which gets awfully close to "Thunderball", or, you know, "TB". Alright, looking at it that way the title is just TOOOOO similar to an earlier Bond film, so, no go on it.
    NTTD it is, then.

Not to mention lifting the font of NTTD from The Love Boat TV series.

The woke part stems from the assumption that Nomi is taking the 007 title. That's the true concern - a character assasination of sorts in the name of political correctness. The clip of Nomi from the trailer showing another "equal" exerting her superiority, is just confirmation bias that the assumption is true and that NTTD must be "woke."

You'll notice that in the newer trailers, they've left that bit out, probably for that reason. I think all this hubbub is going to fall flat. Nomi won't end up being 007 and while she'll start cocky, she'll gain trust in Bond over the course of the film to become a likeable character. Or at least something along those lines. Granted, this is no more an assumption than the above statement that everyone has been spewing.

@denbigh Also, the CR train sequence isn't one in the same. It plays out more like a game of flirtation that is completely mutual between the two characters. Had that been in a trailer, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as inflammatory. There is no threat to Bond's character. What might have been is the little pinky and other romance commentary, but that's getting a little far away from the apparent wokeness of NTTD.

@contraband Marginalizing and stereotyping only gives the fire oxygen.

And for the record, I'm genuinely interested to see what they do with the Nomi character. I think the producers will have some tact with how they go about it, even if Bond does lose his title.

I wouldn't call PWB woke, I just really don't like her brand of humor.

I want to see what they make of Nomi, though. Given she's slated to be pretty much the first true female 'buddy' of Bond's, there is so much unexplored territory to be had. I'd like to see them expand on the dynamic that we saw in TND's Wai Lin and DAD's Jinx, without the sexual element. I highly enjoyed the working buddy interactions between Brosnan's Bond and the 'action' Bond Girls, and I hope that this is what we get with Nomi.

Only real gripe of her that really doesn't have anything to do with Nomi herself is Lynch's voice. It's really high and shrill and I'm not a fan of her soft voice.

That’s always been my gripe with Brosnan.

New stills by Greg Williams. The second photo with Ana was cropped the other day. Now we can see the full set, second floor in the dance hall El Nido bar at the Havana set, Pinewood. Damn it looks good.

"Woke" is an umbrella term, but most of the time, it's something derogatory targeted at anything that challenges some statu quo, suggesting there's a political agenda against all traditions.

Sure, there have been instances in which "wokeness" and "SJW"s have been doing a terrible job. A few weeks ago, there was accusations on Twitter against American actress Ellie Kemper. She had been crowned at 19 queen of some ball for the St. Louis high society which had a racist and segregated past. She hadn't said herself anything inflammatory or expressed support for the event, but there were people asking her to condemn her past ASAP. Kemper starred in one of the most progressive recent sitcoms, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Her resume points out at a very liberal person (she was an intern for Conan O'Brien, her husband, who was also a writer for Conan and developed Nathan for You, is Jewish, etc.), but some people, a very small but active crowd, were ready to throw her under a rock, in some manufactured indignation designed to make them appear even more progressive and "woke" on the Internet.

But most of the time, it's a term used by the right to dismiss any effort at changing things as concessions to the progressive political agenda. Yet, if there's one thing that was collapsing at some point under the weight of statu quo and repetition, it was the Bond franchise.
Now, the actors for Felix Leiter and Moneypenny are black. Yet, the filmmakers made great choices that owe very little to skin color, picking people who had great chemistry with Craig.

And when you look at the big picture, it's quite obvious that one of the things that didn't work in Spectre was the Bond-Madeleine romance, which feels underwritten, especially in a film that long. Maybe it was the actress, maybe it was the director, or maybe it was the script. It's not a stupid idea to involve a woman who's a screenwriter to give more depth to the female characters on No Time to Die. The script could probably be improved by adding a different point of view, and it can be interesting to have a female writer on a Bond film, especially as the first three entries, arguably some of the best, had some credited or uncredited input by Johanna Harwood, while nobody complained about some blatant feminist agenda in the scripts (well, it was apparently Maibaum who wanted to be in charge of writing and had her contributions sidelined for Goldfinger).

Sure, Killing Eve might be described as feminist, but it's also a refreshing twist on some old and exhausted tropes. And the only season that really works is the first one, the one that Waller-Bridge wrote and produced.

“ Woke” is political and social correctness on steroids and Meth.

Based on interviews with PWB, I don’t think there’s anything to be concerned about; she seems to embrace the character of Bond.

As far as Nomi, I have nothing against the character at all; I just don’t find her the least bit attractive, but that’s just personal tastes.

People throw the term 'Woke' around in much the same way people said " it's political correctness gone mad" 2 decades ago when anything would even come close to threatening their opinion. On anything!
There is rarely any nuance to the use of the word or explanation of why it is such a troubling concept. (It isn't by the way)
PWB is a woman, she must be Woke. Nomi MIGHT be 007, it must be Woke. I don't like it, it's so woke...
How's about it might be just good story telling or might be trying something different or maybe even, heaven forbid, positive progress.
Here's a mad idea. Watch the film first and then decide. Sorry, rant over.

Unlike many others chatting about corona and god knows what else in this thread I'm usually sticking to the topic, posting NTTD stills and info. Now I made an exception with one Bautista-photo and also added there's more in the actors thread.

I think we all can survive one off topic-still, right?
