…the thought had occurred to me actually. It also feels like there’s something very Lewis Gilbert about NTTD too. Should be interesting blend with the whole Craig era.
Definitely out there but would seem to fit with what we've seen in the trailers. It's weird how he seems to look older in the prologue scene. His face is far more mangled than it is later in the film.
At first I thought maybe it was due to injuries he received from whatever broke the Noh Mask in half but that wouldn't explain why the injuries look like scars/wrinkles that are already healed or why they are present on both sides of his face, when only one side of the mask was broken.
Also just a PSA. I would recommend treading very carefully if anyone cares to look up Unit 731. It's important to know about from a historical perspective but it's among the most evil and disgusting things I've ever read about what humans are capable of doing to each other. It will make you sick. The images and stories are beyond horrific.
I remember Rami Malek said several times in interviews is that him and Cary wanted Safin to be "unsettling" and would brainstorm on how to portray that. So he's definitely not just some standard villain. There will be some kind of weird aspect to him.
I agree. I think the issue is that when people think of genetic engineering/cloning in movies and tv, they think of futuristic franchises like Star Wars, when in reality it could be feasible, although a lot more crude and less streamlined like what was done in Star Wars
About redoing DUD right, well, it didn't work for DAF, it didn't work in 2002, and I hope they don't redo it in any way. I still suffer from PTSD from it. Any mention of Madonna, surf, space lasers and ice palaces gets me to a bad place. Now, doing MR right, the novel I mean, now that'd be something akin of doing YOLT right. But again, these are things for other threads.
Good call with the PSA, I'll put one on my OG post as well
When I saw the trailers for DAD my immediate impression was LTK done right. It might have actually ended up great under a different director, but that film's tone was all over the place.
At least we'll finally get to see this one in a few weeks.
I think as long as they keep the sci-fi elements in some ground of reality and make the performances between Craig and Seydoux believable (as opposed to Spectre), I think it'll work out
I do think we are in for a treat, but something tells me the tone might end up being slightly uneven (ie. Octopussy). Either way, it’s going to be epic.
LTK?
EDIT: Unless you meant grand finale in terms of stakes in the story
Will NTTD follow the time honored tradition of a Bond actor's last film being their worst a'la DAF, AVTAK and DAD, or will this break new ground?
Given that Dalton only had two films, I have to choose TLD as the better film. Even considering it statistically, as LTK is a very divisive film amongst Bond fans. Calling LTK an impressively good film is, maybe, pushing it a tad to far. If LTK were far superior to TLD, my reasoning would be absolutely wrong, I admit it, but I think most fans will agree Dalton's first entry surpasses his second, and that was one of the (many, many) reasons why he didn't get to do a third one.
Point being, if DC has a superb last film, that'll be a first in the Bond cannon, IMO.
Always think about "Sin nombre" with regards to your comment — a grim look at the reality of the consequences of the migration policies of the United States and the suffering it causes, but also this romantic tragedy of a man sick of killing and trying to do one good thing in his life. "Beasts of No Nation" too, all those bright colors and ethereal shots of the jungle contrasting to the bleak storyworld
That's reasonable. I've more veered towards LTK being Dalton's best, but that's subject to opinion. It's a shame we never got Dalton's third. From what I heard, it seemed interesting, although for those who don't really like sci-fi Bond plots, it makes NTTD's seem like Casino Royale lol
To me, LTK is one of three films that belong to the "Bond Paradox." They are objectively bad films and yet, because they are so bad, they are brilliant. DAF and TMWTGG are the other two.
Yeah the use of color and mood really stood out to me in the trailers. It has the hazy, sort of dreamlike vibe that a lot of Spectre had but with way more vibrant color. The brief shot of Bond standing in the doorway in the Matera hotel looks stunning.
There's surely no way it'll be worse than SP for me, thankfully. Then again, I think the only Bond whose final official film is the weakest for me was Connery's DAF.
Do you think it's the final trailer or just a cut for cinemas? In this case, would it be dropped online any time soon?
I have no idea. I'm going back and forth with her info. It can be the old trailer she's describing or actually something new. I can't decide based on what she's writing.
If it's the final trailer it will drop very soon. Maybe this friday on internet without warning.
Knives Out 2 wraps this weekend so Craig will be free for interviews on every damn talkshow on the planet
Realizing he will have shot two KO films before Bond 25 ever came out haha
Perhaps Barbara and Michael could look at the KNIVES OUT franchise for inspiration? We may get more Bond films that way.
I mean, every delay after April 2020 can't be blamed on them — unless EON secretly developed the novel coronavirus as an elaborate marketing ploy.
And I'd rather have a good, but delayed film than one sooner that's bad.
Not to mention that it's far easier to film a cheaper "old dark house" murder mystery than a massive, multinational blockbuster.
Very true. I really wouldn't mind a low key Bond film next time out, though.
Same, perhaps with a new actor they'll be more apt to make something smaller. Always have been intrigued by the idea of stretching out the beginning of "Die Another Day" to a whole film — Bond, alone and overseas, ending up in prison and having to break his way out. Would be very risky, but would be cheap!
