About the gunbarell this time around, based on the spoiler and how it’s been described: I am genuinely unhappy about it. I…..*heavy sigh*. My excitement overall about NTTD is waning by the minute.

I'm in the same boat. Seeing this next week (USA) and really wanted to know about two things for sure before going into it:
    1. About the gunbarrel.
    2. Whether Bond is definitively killed off.
Disappointed on both counts, and about some other plot points that have been confirmed. I can't believe I'm concerned about this being worse than SP for me.

I’d say those are my concerns as well, and quite frankly, I haven’t been excited for a Bond film since Craig’s first outing (which was probably one of the greatest cinematic experiences I’ve had). There are other components of NTTD I’m looking forward to that may be elevate it enough - the PTS, Hans Zimmer’s score - but I can’t help that I’m going into this film already pissed off.
Well said. I’m sure there are some great moments throughout the film but I don’t want to buy a ticket, take a trip to the theater and sit there for almost 3 hours when I know I’m going to walk in already mad and disappointed. No matter how good certain scenes are, I’m going to be sitting there unable to have any real excitement for them.

Well, the moment has finally arrived…at least for The UK. Can’t believe it. A DJ on the radio station I listen to said that he felt like the film was missing something. He said some reviewers said this too. I skimmed through one review avoiding all the spoilers except for one - the “007” thing. :) Anyway, from what I hear, things seems to be quite positive in general. Sounds and looks like a mix of a Moore/Connery film - more seriousness in Bond but on a large scale like the Moore films.

The reviewer on BBC Breakfast said it's wroth staying to the end of the credits. Not sure what there is there; I would guess they've elaborated the 'WILL RETURN' message..?

So we can officially say that Craig is the first Bond actor going out on a high. Not counting Dalton and Lazenby.

My reaction to the movie: 🤯

PS: The PTS felt like a totally different movie. Really really loved it.

And yes, we can easily spot MGW cameo.

Aww it's great that they keep inviting former Bond girls, i love seeing people that were part of the universe being invited to these events.

I saw that Lazenby watched it in his city cause obviously because of the pandemic he couldn't have made it to London

Cool to have MGW having cameos in all Daniel’s 5 films.

Just got this text off a mate who went last night
"Craig is on top form, bit of cringey woke dialogue in places but some of the best action in the series. Easily top 3 Daniel's. Stay until the end!!"

I'll be honest, that's pretty much what I expected and hoped for. Can't wait for tomorrow now

“Cringy woke dialogue”. This is what I’ve always been afraid of. This and Nomi, I think will be the main facets that hinder my enjoyment of the film.

“Stay until the end.” Interesting. I stay until the end of the credits for all movies - Bond or non Bond. :)

There's no post credit scene. Perhaps it's just the JB will return card.

I think the rotten tomatoes percentage will drop to around 70%. French reviews are very mixed, the first 40 minutes are apparently perfect but the rest falls into mediocre melodrama.

I have seen it. As this is a great post, here is my reaction:

    Looking forward to:
    - Sandgren's glossy, colorful cinematography CHECK
    - What looks to be a fully engaged performance by Craig DOUBLE CHECK
    - More balanced mix of seriousness and humor CHECK
    - The possibility of at least some of SPECTRE's story and character shortcomings being mitigated HALF CHECK
    - A suitably world-threatening villainous plot HALF COOKED
    - More robust action and pacing than the previous few entries OK
    - Seeing how Zimmer's score (and the theme song) integrates with the film CHECK
    - What look to be more surrealistic, YOLT-style touches (from both the novel and film) CHECK
    - Potential for an emotional, gut-wrenching end to Craig's run SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

    Worried about:
    - Too much over-the-top action? (The amount of machine gun fire reminds me of the Brosnan years) ALRIGHT BUT ONE SEQUENCE BADLY INTEGRATED
    - Dodgy CGI, which some have already remarked upon (although it'll also bring back fond memories of bad F/X from the early Bond movies) ALRIGHT, BETTER THAN BEFORE
    - Will Fukanaga and the writers stick the landing on the film's "family" themes and plot developments, or will it come off as ham-fisted? DEFINITIVELY HAM-FISTED
    - Will we see the sad demise of some familiar characters? And will these moments be earned, or just thrown in for shock value? MY MAIN PROBLEM WITH THE MOVIE - not just thrown in for shock value but not earned because of not very subtle writing
    - Safin: Malek is a fine actor, but based on the snippets we've seen, his role could easily tip into panto territory ALAS THIS HAPPENS, again because of lazy writing (or too much editing)
    - Some overused character and story beats (e.g., Bond and kick-ass female agent taking out the enemy's hideaway by themselves, yet another traitorous agent in the mix, Bond leaving the service -- again!) CHECK ALAS

This is not the formidable masterpiece we were kind of promised. Casino Royale's reputation is safe. Narration and surprises are a little marred by conventions and clichés - with a few straight incoherences. Underdevelopped villain and villainous motivation. The great cinematography stands out. Superb acting talent all around. Lashana and Ana are very good. So is Primo. There are a couple of cartoonish characters though. Best scenes are Matera and Cuba (save for some minor action editing). The DB5 in the middle of the piaza is the best scene in the movie - not only because of iconic pictures but also because of the ongoing drama. The wit is in place and this is pleasant. The director's storytelling abilities are disputable. Daniel Craig is still a God - the actor not the producer.
I am looking forward to reading your reactions to the movie.

This is going to become a frequent internet-forum-talking point and I'm already taking exception to it.

"Cringy" isn't a word I'd use to describe it at all. The scenes being referred to feel directly on par with the type of charged banter we heard in Goldeneye between Bond/Moneypenny and Bond/M. In fact, the Goldeneye dialogue might even be more aggressively direct.

The concept of woke is so broad that it's become meaningless. One man's woke is another man's character development. Woke is now used to dismiss any critique or opinion that bucks the status quo.

I'm so glad members of our forum have seen it. You get a perception of what NTTD is really like and it's great to know that there were fans in the room who actually cared about the film, and not just privileged journalists with the arms crossed wanting to hate it
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, without spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet

    You're welcome. :)

And I would just stress, to anyone who's reading these forums today and seeing reactions (positive or negative) and feeling mixed or distraught about it: do not form your opinion until you've seen the film.

This is an incredibly personal story. Not just in its own stakes, but in terms of what it means to you. Every fan will react differently to this film, and that's due hugely to where and who they are in their own lives and what their relationship is with Bond and the character's films.

    Enjoy the moment!

I was hoping someone would mention Goldeneye actually. It would be nice if it were more subtle than Goldeneye but I won’t get my hopes up.

Sounds like it’s pretty tightly cut too which I’m not keen on.

Been trying really hard to keep an open mind and imagine it can somehow work, I’m just so down about it and feel like it’s such a copout. Definitely more anxious than happy about seeing things play out.

This is where I’m at. I’m trying really hard to keep an open mind when I watch it but it’s going to be hard to have excitement during the movie because of the ending. At least for me.

I hope I’m wrong and enjoy the whole experience.

I always have to take "Rotten Tomatoes" with a grain of salt. Not all reviewers are equal. I only pay attention to "Top Critics," and within that space, only reviewers from top newspapers and publications. Only the best, most knowledgeable critics get those jobs. So I read them first and foremost. Here in the U.S., that means...
    • New York Times
    • Los Angeles Times
    • Rolling Stone
    • Time
    • Entertainment Weekly
    • Variety
    • Hollywood Reporter

And in the case of Bond, I pay attention to Empire, Guardian, Times (UK), and The Independent have to say, as well.

Those types of publications are key. I don't care what some nobody at meaningless.com thinks of the film. Unfortunately, for some reason, Rotten Tomatoes does.

I agree with you for the most part. However, Chris Stuckmann from YT is a top critic on RT and I trust his opinions. He’s a huge Bond fan as well.
