I’ve seen every Bond film in the cinema, usually on day one, since GE and was a fan of Bond films before then, and for the first time ever I’m completely unexcited about a new Bond film. Not just because of this latest thing, it just feels like yet another blow against the character. I never thought I’d be pining for the Brosnan era, but here I am. I loved Casino Royale, I thought it was an amazing Bond film, and greatly looked forward to what promised to be an exciting new era of Bond films with a fantastic new Bond actor. Constant “personal” storylines, small stakes, a depressed, navel gazing Bond who seems to be constantly rogue or retired and making mistakes and learning lessons and must be about the crappiest agent MI6 ever produced, QUANTUM being a damp squib and even the return of SPECTRE and Blofeld being totally lame and now we’ve got another movie with a retired Bond, a female 007 and a movie that will “reflect the metoo movement”... Its all just been so disappointing.

Agreed 100%. I'm sick of Bond having personal issues, family angst, unnecessary family backstories involving Blofeld - basically rewriting anything Fleming did, and discarding precious material that still hasn't been used.

    +1.

Fine, they wanted to reboot Bond with CR, but at the end of the movie where he says "Bond, James Bond" I thought that was pretty much it when it comes to building his character. Not so, unfortunately.

The consequence of them focusing so much on Bond's character, is that it leaves little room for the supporting cast to shine. In 30 years, which Bond villains from the Craig-era, will be regarded up there with the likes of Goldfinger, Scaramanga and Alex Trevelyan? They couldn't even get Blofeld right.

And what do we know that is "100% confirmed" from B25? Blofeld has a cameo & Malek's character is not a "political" terrorist.

How many villains during the Brosnan era are held in high esteem, apart from Madonna?

But this is again too much off topic.

Sean Bean as Alec Trevelyan? I’m not sure I understand what you mean.

Oh yes. He was great. I'll give Sophie Marceau some credit too. But the others?

I definitely hold Johnathan Pryce as Elliot Carver in high regard. Robbie Coltrane as Zukovsky. The Brosnan era is filled with great antagonists.

In GE, it wasn't just Trevelyan. It was also Ourumov and Xenia and Boris in the same movie. It was a great group of villains which reminds me of Octopussy although obviously Octopussy doesn't end up a villain.

The best villains in the Pierce era were definitely the ones in the two first movies. The others, not so much. But why are we discussing Brosnan villains on the B25 filming thread again?

There’s nothing to talk about re: Bond 25 until we get more news.

The literary Bond is far from a perfect human being. I’m glad the film makers have finally honed in on this. For me personally, the Brosnan era, excluding the occasional interesting character, is rubbish with Goldeneye, just being passable. That being said, I too am sick of the personal angle they have taken. QOS was one thing, SF was good overall but they went too far with the wishy washy disappointment that was Spectre. I atleast hope that 25 will be absent of Blofeld/Bond personal references. The Madeline/Bond scene does sound ominous in terms of the personal garbage that might show itself again but let’s see....

I wouldn’t mind for a more light hearted affair for bond 26 but not too light my personal preference is along the lines of say The world is not enough or maybe Octopussy... just not Moonraker anything but that

Do you guys think the teaser will be linked with Hobbs and Shaw still? I thought we might have heard something about that, but we'll see.
I do hope we get a teaser and or title soon, just to give us another reason to be excited. I'd love to get a teaser that is just that, and they don't reveal a lot about it but they just give you a small glimpse into the production that gets us talking

EON cannot afford to delay the film again, so they need a trailer out pronto for marketing. Even Top Gun: Maverick has a trailer, and it doesn't come out until next June. :O

And it's the best trailer since the first Fallout trailer.

We do need something to get things moving, IMO. Even the smallish teaser will do.

Yes, we need to win back the audience, who are kinda wondering whether this is a trainwreck or not.

We? I believe the term is "speak for yourself". I for one have not wasted considerable time wondering or trying to convince others that this is a train wreck. Like any Bond movie before it, especially the ones which have reportedly had a plethora of production issues, I have waited patiently knowing that they will reveal what they ought, and show what they have, at the right time: to satisfy the wider audience who are quietly keen to see success, rather than the naysayers who seem determined to loudly find proof of failure. I do not presume I am alone in that belief and yes, whilst I do fully embrace that there has evidently been cause for concern whipped up into hyperbole by an overly keen media, in many instances it is impossible to "win back" , that which never left.

    @HalfOfEverything
    You and I want quality.

And then there are some here that crave quantity. They just want product, anything, and they want it fast. Or else... Well, in their logic, "or else" the movie is in shambles, a total disaster, and the "audience", whom they clearly represent, will stop caring. You see, audiences will take a dump on this film if they don't get a trailer now, today, pronto... If they have to wait another one or two months, obviously the film is a catastrophe. I mean, who cares if things look cool three months before the release? Unless we get daily updates and lots of promotional material a year in advance, the Apocalypse is near.

I'm rather liking what EON is doing right now. Just let the Internet and every fool with a keyboard rant now and leave them boiling in their own sweat. And then, strike back with the good stuff. This is 2005/2006 all over again except that the craigisntbonders have mutated into the filmisntcomingfastenough'ers. This is a group of people who believe they have subscribed to a monthly "shipment" of news, stills, video updates and more. They have invented the crazy rule that unless EON gives us something after a certain time interval, we can get the pitchforks out.

The rest of us are just happy there's a Bond film coming. When it comes, when it starts its trailer campaign and so on, we'll know. Meanwhile, life goes on without Xanax, ulcers and insomnia.

+1. People have lost their hability to discern quantity from quality and have lost the only way one gets a grip on time. I feel sorry for them, poor buggers, that’s no way to live.

Eon have actually been giving us loads of stuff from the set of this: the press launch, a making of video, photo updates, an official image, the Prince Charles visit, paparazzi photos which seem rather suspiciously 'released' the week after they were taken etc.

Anyone complaining that they're not getting enough content has their eyes shut! :)

A teaser will come out when it needs to come out.

Agree with every single word of this.
I made a post a few days ago in another thread in a similar vein (maybe a little too vehemently) but this bears repeating until such time as it sinks into people's heads.
God, how would the foot stamping, entitled, 'I want it NOW' brigade have coped back in the day, before t'internet was invented? I lived through those days as a Bond fan, and survived - so we have nothing to get worked up about today, with the plethora of content we're being gifted 👍
