This will no doubt be unpopular but I think I am one of the few that thought they got the SP DB10 chase right, given that it it’s a film where Bond is ostensibly chancing his arm the second he arrives in Rome, totally out of control and is attempting to escape at all costs in a car which is simply a means to an end.
I like that it was set in a clandestine version of Rome, in the twilight hours, and the empty streets still don’t do him any favours plus the car is near useless to him, given what he’s trying to outrun and that Aston is in a concept like stage.
Looking at what’s come out of Matera this time, The DB5 is now the symbolic emblem of Craig’s tenure but I also like that that car means something to him, in fact just about the only thing he can depend on in this series of films and his attachment to that car is on a par with his leading ladies.
I hate the Goldeneye chase, it’s hopelessly unrealistic against that Ferrari and was a clumsy addition when they the re-wrote the screenplay to promote BMW over the then selected Aston DB7.
(If anyone is interested I have the letter from Aston confirming a battleship grey car , with weapons all lined up back in 1994/95 before BMW totally usurped Fords offer)
The switch to the V8 for this film is such a good call as it’s a muscular, and now totally environmentally outdated bastard of a car, nicely in tandem with the DC portrayal of a now disillusioned and world weary bloke!
I only hope it’s used to good effect but the match is a great one.
Still love the near total secrecy to all of this and hats off to to CJF and his secret service.
Loving the guess work by the forum.

There were two parts to the chase: 1. Bond on the phone with Moneypenny; 2. Bond off the phone with Moneypenny. Part 1 should have occurred prior to Bond realizing he's been run down by Hinx. In other words, Bond races off, gets Moneypenny on the phone, has his chat, all the while seeing headlights behind him, chasing him down. From there, now off the phone with Moneypenny, Bond plays cat and mouse in the dark streets of Rome.

One of my favorite car chase scenes is this one. @4:50, I love the peeks down the dark streets as alleys, which could have been the case in Rome, too. It adds tension.

Good post. I always thought the new DBS superlegerra suited Dan’s Bond, it’s so muscular but yea with it being modern and a tiny bit flashy, the old V8 suits Bonds character arc great.

Re: the strange chronology of the DB5 in the Craig Bond films: I always assumed Bond had always had the ‘Goldfinger’ DB5 in storage, and the one in Nassau in Casino Royale was just one he happened to pick up temporarily, and left it in the Bahamas when he flew to Miami. The the GF DB5 (his actual car) was used in Skyfall and repaired in Spectre.

There is no chronology. The DB5 in SF was written as the CR version by P&W - but Mendes wanted the GF version. That was carried over to SP.

Have all the DB5’s that have appeared in all of the films been silver birch? IS it a characteristic of that colour that in some light it looks flat and matte like and other times sparkly and shiny and reflective?
  • As much as I've moaned on here over the DB5 (I don't think we ever needed to see it again after the Connery era) I am sort of excited to see it in a proper car chase again. First time since GF really right? TB and SF the gadgets were used but not in chase scenes. GE there was the Ferrari race but that was sort of playful and fun. TND and CR Bond just used it to drive around. We haven't actually seen it in a proper life and death chase since GF.

I’d be interested to see where it’s shown that the Skyfall DB5 was written as the CR DB5. Anyway that isn’t communicated at all in the actual films.
EDIT: I think I misunderstood your post initially. All the same, if Mendes wanted the GF DB5 in Skyfall then it’s not a stretch to imagine that Craig’s Bond owned it the entire time and the CR DB5 was a second one.

I'm good with the idea that the Skyfall DB5 was used by MI6 during the 60s in Craig's timeline and somehow became a legacy of his parents before they died. Who were in the service themselves. Therefore he went to it in storage as a means to transport M to Scotland.

Plus his parents had the foresight to leave the machine guns loaded.

Metro website has reported NTTD has finished filming:

    https://metro.co.uk/2019/09/28/drunk-daniel-craig-makes-emotional-speech-james-bond-gang-no-time-die-wraps-10826199/

I assume that's incorrect and there's more filming? Anyone from MI6 able to confirm the Metro report is accurate or not.

I assume this was supposed to be the Matera wrap party, not the wrap party for the whole film?

It's actually from the Mirror Newspaper. Metro just copying what the Mirror reported. The Mirror reports the wrap party is to mark the ending of all filming:

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/really-drunk-james-bond-star-20324808
EXCLUSIVE: The 51-year-old actor celebrated the end of filming No Time To Die with the cast and crew and described it as "the most wonderful experience"

It's the end of filming or the reporter got carried away and it's just the end of filming in Italy. I guess we'll find out in the next day or so when or if filming continues! I assume most location filming doesn't end with a wrap party and cake? You just film the stuff and move on to the next location without a party? I assume so.

It was the wrap party for Matera. The tabloids are a week late in reporting it. They need to keep an eye on this place for future scoops ! ;)

There is still more Pinewood stuff to be shot throughout next month. Ana de Armas still has a few scenes to shoot.

Why are they having a party and cake if filming is continuing? It feels like a wrap party to mark the end of filming but it does seem strange. I thought filming was going on up to November. Perhaps they wanted to have a party and eat some cake. ;) Back to work tomorrow!

Can't believe that even with all the delays in production prior to all this, we are now only 6 months away till the movie is released! How time flies!

I'll be seeing NTTD just for this DB-5 chase. To me the rest is icing on the cake.

There virtually done. I doubt there’s anymore action set pieces to film. This was definitely a smaller film than Spectre action wise.

With Spectre we saw Craig himself film action sequences in Austria, Mexico City on the rooftops, in the Thames with Tanner, driving the Aston in Rome, at Oberhausers base in Morocco, and the Westminster bridge.

We’ve only seen him for short bits in Jamaica, on the streets of London, and the matera action set piece. The rest must be pinewood

I think a mandate for this one was Craig not being away from his family for months at a time.

I agree we haven't seen all that's been filmed or will be presented in No Time to Die.

The producers have a different approach to what they share on the filming. It's both bold in line with media venues and consciously restrictive where possible. Based on their experience with Spectre, beyond their control. So they assume the control they can balanced with good publicity for their film.

That's what my guess is too. Daniel Craig must have negotiated so many 'only if's' before he got onboard. In a way it sounds a bit similar to Connery's 'second' last Bond-film DAF (YOLT was supposedly Connery's 'first' last) and 'third' last Bond-film NSNA. However, this doesn't necessarily mean the film will be more lacklustre. I have a gut feeling that this time around the story of NTTD will be as ingenious as Fleming's story material for FRWL, OHMSS and CR.

If Sting is really in talks -and let's not forget that Adele's name was already floating around early spring of 2012 for Skyfall- then I would be utterly delighted. It would be a daring choice. But given the circumstances under which NTTD is produced, and looking at how Cary Fukunaga is a fan of 80-ies Bond-films, I wouldn't be surprised.

OT: Speaking of music, what about Queen doing the title song? In this case they would have Adam Lambert singing on the track. Queen itself are british royalty at this point. And then you have the connection with Rami Malek, playing Freddie.

Anyway, the band was headlining Global Citizens Festival 2019 yesterday night in New York City’s Central Park and Rami Malek introduced them. Plus during the concert he can be seen singing along several times. Must say that Malek has some real energetic persona. Wonder how that's gonna come out playing a Bond-villain

Yeah, having Queen do it would be a cool connection. I'm up for Sting too presuming there is any truth to this. Great artists.

Productions often have little parties during production, especially when they wrap a significant location. The wrap party will be in UK, at some swanky venue and the entire cast, crew, and anyone else involved in any capacity on the film, plus partners, will be invited. I went to the TWINE wrap at a venue opposite the Millennium Dome, and it was a huge bash.

    Probably true, but it’s horrible!
I think the DB10 is still right for him. Muscly and angry looking but still handsome and classy.

I have wondered about the new ones: that paint finish seems shinier than I’ve seen the DB5 look before, it’s true.
