Ehhh, besides being Bond fans, we also are walking Bond databases no? So having said that, we are quite aware that most Bond villains, and especially the bigger, more memorable Bond villains actually haven't got so much screentime. Besides the more active all-round directors -both executioners as well as puppet masters- like Auric Goldfinger, Elliot Carver and Max Zorin, many other Bond villains have relatively modest screentime while at the same time having huge impact.
- Dr. Julius No: One of my all-time favourite villains who blossoms especially at the dinner table. The way he smashes that little statue...wonderful.
- Ernst Stavro Blofeld (the uncredited one) from FRWL & TB: He only has a white cat, we only see his hair, he uses authoritarian language in a Shakespearian way, and he presses a few deadly buttons. But...so impressive (and for me as a little kid quite scary).
- Ernst Stavro Blofeld (the revealed ones) YOLT, OHMSS, DAF & SP: Regardless of some flaws, their screentime is limited, still press buttons, if it's a 60-ies big red one, or an iPad...he is the scary 'button presser'. Even the 'new Blofeld' as seen in "SPECTRE".
- Fransisco Scaramanga: Though a bit more screentime, it's still not that much. The way he is lurking from behind the scenes, 'spying' on Bond brings about some extra scare.
- Alec Trevelyan: He re-appears fairly late, but in a rather climatic, confrontation on a storage place full of statues. Scarred, and full of revenge feelings.
- Le Chiffre: A true desperate villain, with completely black tuxedo, a Hitler-hairstyle and a bloody eye. The opposite of the more psychotic Blofeld who enjoys torturing for pleasure.
- Raoul Silva / Tiago Rodriguez: In my opinion the best Bond villain since the 1960's. Although I have to say that Sam Mendes also was very much inspired by such villains with 'grand entrances'. The way he plays with the psyche of his opponents is smart.
So there you have it. A short walk down memory lane. The most iconic Bond villains have relatively small parts when it comes down to screentime, but the overall impact, both story-wise as well as acting-wise is very dominant and during pivotal scenes need to even outperform Bond...make him even a bit more boring. That's what a good Bond villain is.
And I have a gut feling that that aspect will be a smashing, scary, thrilling success. The thing is, we all have to be a bit more patient. Keep it going EON with your secrecy ;-)!
I just think while yes Malek will have less screentime, the expected runtime for these movies would still allow for Malek to appear in multiple locations outside of Norway, within the context of the film, like Raoul Silva and Le Chiffre, although I thought Le Chiffre had quite a good amount of screentime to be honest. Again we don't know where he has filmed for sure, apart from Pinewood and apparently Norway.
We don't know yet if Malek and Waltz are handcuffed against a totem pole for the duration of the movie :-P. Just be patient. Enjoy the secrecy. And perhaps you will be in awe…
Regarding Le Chiffre...his role ended basically with his death and then the movie still had around 45 mins more film.
Le Chiffre does get decent screentime, but Mikkelsen is only seen on location in 'Africa' (shot in the UK), on his yacht (studio), in the casino (studio), the barge (studio), and briefly picking Bond up after his crash (which could have been shot anywhere). So not actually on location anywhere really. So for Malek not to have apparently travelled much seems par for the course.
Exactly. I remember Waltz saying back in 2015 that he was a bit annoyed that he couldn't travel the globe as much as the other leading characters. But......that's the risk of being cast as a Bond villain apparently hehehe.
Oh of course! Again that's why I suggested that Malek's scenes within the film could have been on sets built at Pinewood based in any of the locations. I'm just suggesting an alternative to the idea that Malek will only appear in Norway at the beginning and the end :)
Yes, sorry: I was agreeing! It didn't quite come across :)
I think that's the idea for the two Bond villains of NTTD. It's mostly set-based. And like Always, when it comes down to exact set constructions, we were 'lucky' with the SonyLeaks that they gave most production design ideas away. But now we are back to the good old secrecy. We.....won't know anything until we see some first trailer footage :-).
But yes, set based. But you know what @MTM and @Denbigh ? I hope we get a Hitchcok-ian detective/thriller story like in "From Russia With Love". A plot that leaves us, the audience, seeing clues of the villain's scheme unfolding, but that Bond 007 himself is not aware of. That would be so so thrilling if it will be a bit like that :-). Seeing S.P.E.C.T.R.E. sneeking behind Bond's back. That would be my wish really….. And I think we could be on to such a thriller plot again.
Well...I suggest you re-watch the first four Craig-Bond films. Lots of answers are revealed in there. And to prepare for "No Time To Die", to get the pentalogy full-circle, you first need to see the first four Craig outings.
I think @Problem_Eliminator was asking about our thoughts on the scene.
This can be discussed here:

The issue is that the Bond-Mr. White scene is off topic.
Yeah, just hit that topic up, post your thoughts about that scene in there. Perhaps tomorrow I will respond. Sounds interesting @Problem_Eliminator ;-). Nice to see you are trhilled about that scene, which actually was a highlight of SP.
Sounds like quite a hefty toll most be exhausting
You might want to reacquaint yourself with the terms and conditions. The ones you agreed too, when you signed up.
Also, lose the attitude. You’ll find your time here a lot more pleasant.
We don’t put up with people that can’t be bothered to look up a thread, or are just being rude because they think they can for very long.
