"Bond isn’t programmed for a tranquil life in retirement. The need for action runs deep," says director Cary Joji Fukunaga. Rami Malek brings "depth, intelligence and a spine-shivering stillness" as the newest new Bond villain Safin, and Lashana Lynch is a "young, athletically precise and ambitious" double-0 agent named Nomi. While a rivalry exists between her and Bond, "we see their relationship become closer, and come to understand how new generations respect but also need to outdo their predecessors."

I absolutely love this look on Craig. He looks fantastic.

Perhaps masks can be a theme in the main title sequence.

Ooh yes: excellent call. It seems hard to imagine that Noh mask not appearing in the titles now.

That sounds a bit un-intelligent. How about learning from those with more experience, in order to be the best they can? What reason is there supposed to be to outdo any predecessor? If it has to be like this it should at least say, 'repect their predecessors and struggle with their own up-and-comer ego.'

There’s nothing wrong with the description - which applies to many a tenacious up-and-comer. You can respect your predecessors but it’s not unusual to want to go one better. That’s life. Unless you work in a call centre and live a rather sedentary existence. Being a 00 is for people with balls (and fannies) of steel.

Agreed, and I'm very excited for a Bond film that won't try to be the same as the 24 previous Bond films. It almost feels as though if it were up to some of the people here we'd have 25 Dr. Nos.

I probably should have elaborated; 25 Dr. No's as in tone and style. I'm not too keen on a rebooted Dr. No though (although I wouldn't be surprised if they do reboot him).

  • I am loving these new pics. I am getting a real feel from these freshly released pics that Safin will be the most chilling Bond villain Bond has faced yet. I also have a gut feeling that Safin will have between 40 to 50 minutes screentime in NTTD, after the Jamaica/Cuba takedown and the London briefing and before the end credits. Does anyone know how much screentime Safin will have.

Safin won’t actually be in the film. He’ll be portrayed by a CGI Dreamworks pigeon.
