Sure wish I could have this kind of optimism. If anything, this is just another delay leading into another delay IMO with the virus situation. Should have either just left it alone or moved it ahead.
It's definitely a placeholder. They can't even guarantee November since the issue is not in their control. It's not like they're recasting the director and previous reasons for delay. So the logic works in the other direction too: if the coronavirus scare dissipates, why wouldn't they move it up?
Seriously, I doubt the film will be scrapped. Worse case scenario it goes straight to video/Blu-ray/4K, etc.
I do feel this delay could lesson the anticipation by the time November rolls around.
Will we get more trailers? Another song perhaps? More posters? The marketing budget will have to be increased to keep momentum going for the next 7 months.
Frustrating to think that as fans, we would have already had our Blu-ray /4K copies of the film by summertime had the April release not been delayed.
Overblown reactions. People are kidding themselves if they think that would or should happen.
That’s a good point, and Thanksgiving is a coveted spot that EON has now snagged
I think this just shows how little understanding fans have of the business side of moviemaking. This situation is not ideal but moving the release is a much better proposition than losing nearly 40% of revenue off the top. No one at EON/MGM/Uni woke up this morning saying “how can we fuck with the fans now?” Some of you need to actually be—ya know—fans and support the producers in one of hardest (and wise) decisions that they ever had to make.
I’ll be the first in line come November 25th.
Yeah keep telling yourself that.
To re-up interest, perhaps EON could re-release a couple of the prior DC movies to selected theaters in the summer as a limited run. Or at least have them available on streaming platforms like PlutoTV.
Thoughts?
I am wondering if the plot is too close to reality for April.
I mean... it's already been 5 years... what's another 7 months. I'm more concerned about what will happen after B25. A whole generation of people aren't familiar with Bond now because it's been so long. Not to mention they've produced a whole star wars franchise and like 10 marvel movies in 5 years. Hopefully EON can keep things going
+1
There's been far too much hysteria on here lately, both about the state of the film and the coronavirus itself. Speaking as someone who caught swine flu during the height of the epidemic back in 2009, I've seen this all before.
Now I'm not saying this is an ideal or safe situation, but as with most diseases, the thing that will cause the most harm is not the virus itself, but the panic around it.
Until we know more, the most sensible thing we can do is calm down and not contribute to apocalyptic speculations about either the disease or the film.
The film is essentially finished, cases of the virus are already going down in China, and EON already has the trump card that Bond 26 is going to be a reboot with a completely different lead actor whether this fails or succeeds.
I’m sure even Craig himself is thinking let me go already.
Craig probably wants to get on with his life post Bond. I doubt he was planning on still promoting this film in November.
im not complaining im actually happy maybe we will get a near perfect film now with all the time and make us all happy and im a fan I understand im just surprised how long they delayed it.
what they going to do from now until the film they got almost a year to just sit around bored? Of course stuff will change if its warranted and they have all this time. post production and editing will continue until its released. They will definitely want to play it very safe now if they want people to show up after 4 delays.
NTTD is the first tent pole film to react, credit to Eon in that respect. Over the coming months Movies, Sporting events etc are going to lose millions. Eon are just being smart
People are allowed to believe whatever they want and be misanthropic or whatever, but I think expressing a desire for people to die shouldn't be allowed in this forum.
I'm not trying to pick a fight and I won't be continuing this discussion, I just felt the need to say this.
I doubt it. He's done most of his hard work already. I'd imagine he's spending time with his family. He's good.
Releasing something when you know that nearly 40% of its profits could potentially be lost is not good business.
