Well as of today the US has 335 corona virus victims out of a population of 331 million people. I don't know how any sane person can get too worried over 335 victims in relation to 331 million! Surely a bit of perspective is needed. Sure, if all 335 victims die then it's scary but no-one is saying the corona virus has a 100 percent mortality rate. Indeed, I think it's 1 percent? So basically out of seven billion people on the planet less than 1 percent have the virus and out that less than one percent, only 1 percent are likely to die.
But if you read Google news, read the newspapers you would think the virus is set to wipe out everyone. Indeed, a virus expert was on UK channel 4 news last night and compared the corona virus to World War 2. Just to remind this so called expert... World War 2 killed 70 - 80 million people and was the worst war in terms of deaths in history. As of today corona virus has killed just over three thousand. This man goes on national UK television and compares this virus with the second world war - which also included the holocaust.
Absolutely astonishing comment to make.
I think we should add mental illness to the symptoms of this virus because it seems a lot of people - experts included - are suffering mental illness and wildly exaggerating the impact of this virus. This is just my opinion.
Hope this isn't too off topic but the film was delayed due to the virus. Don't wish to keep posting stats about the virus.
Very well said.
Hmmmm....isn't the truth that the US don't know how many cases they have due to the lack of equipment to adequately test? The government there has said it won't be full-equipped until Monday.
The likelihood is that the situation is severe in the US and the small numbers being reported merely reflect the inability to adequately contain the virus and test potential people. It's looking increasingly likely that America has been hit in a very big way...
This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better......speaking from a movie business perspective, this weekend will be vital. If 'Onward' underperforms (get's less than $40 million) you will see other studios follow NTTD's lead.
We need more women to have this kind of posts here, well done. Although i won't be bothered either way but it's interesting to think, it's like showing a condom(to send a message to men & women to use safety for education purposes) every time James bond engage in a sexual encounter with a woman in any movie.
We're only in the first week of Autumn, so things are expected to get worse once flu and cold season hits fully.
The upside for Sydneysiders is that hopefully, IMAX Sydney will stay on schedule to open late 2020.
Nice!
1. China is not the only film market currently affected by COVID-19, and other markets may be shut down in what would have been NTTD’s release window. So, a $300m loss could have been a $500m+ loss by late April or early May.
2. No one knows what’s going to happen months from now so decisions have to be made with information that is known. The virus may be worse in November but things are bad right now, and only getting worse.
3. Even if the “media” are driving people into hysterics over something that’s not serious, the practical fact is that governments and businesses are responding in ways that are affecting the worldwide box office.
4. All studios can do is hedge their bets that this gets better. November could have been chosen as NTTD’s new release date for a few reasons: it’s far enough out from the current terribleness, it’s a prime Holiday date, all other programming slots were taken or it gives enough time to properly relaunch a marketing campaign. None of those are mutually exclusive. They could all be true.
5. The film could be pirated but that’s an unavoidable risk. Again, decision’s have to be made on what is known currently or historically. WW84 finished production last Summer and hasn’t leaked. X-MEN Origins: Wolverine leaked in 2009, got a 29% RT score and still opened to $80m+ domestic. I’m sure piracy hurt its overall box office but bad reviews killed its legs.
6. Can we stop talking as if this is what EON wanted? Eon may not want to release a Bond film every two years but they certainly don’t want delays and hiccups of this magnitude. They didn’t want to split with Boyle over creative difference. They don’t want to be subject to MGM’s financial woes. EON wants to release a Bond movie to great box office and fanfare.
@Pierce2Daniel I believe Linus has a house somewhere in Stockholm archipelago. I have friends who saw him with Cary plus a third man my friends claim was Daniel in Stockholm last spring or maybe it was in the summer, hanging out although very inkognito given Daniel's fame.
Drop it, please!!
The december Kleinman title-shoot was mentioned in an articke in december.
And yes, the "Romer is out" rumors startet in late October. Billie Eilish spoke about the production process for her song, and she worked with Zimmer on it from November on. So Romer was replaced very fast with Zimmer in late October/early November, I think.
The Atlantic magazine reports that according to all 50 US state health agencies, less than 2000 Coronavirus tests have actually been done yet in the US, both because there are, according to VP Pence, still not enough tests for everybody who needs them, and also because the Administration has been trying to prevent widespread testing in order to keep numbers down. Just last night six US states reported their first cases of Coronavirus precisely because they've only now started doing testing, which means that the virus has been spreading farther and wider over the past few weeks than health agencies have known, which means that it is likely uncontainable at this point. The American Hospital Association has apparently foreseen this, as a leaked slide from a February presentation gave a 'best guess' scenario that assumes potentially half a million deaths in the US alone.
Christ
Now I'm depressed
That number is approximately 1.5% of the population. Make of that what you want.
Assuming there are thousands of copies done before the delay in the first place...
Not to mention the individual tracks have titles which can be spoilery.
Yeah, more reason the score's release date of March 27 is highly unlikely.
EON’s like “do we look like we need the money?” Of course, having more of it helps I guess, but it comes at the expense of fans demanding the supply now.
It was obvious from the beginning. As I said a week ago it was never about "if", but "when".
In 2 weeks Italy took 32.000+ tests and this is the only reason why the country has the highest number of infected people in the Western world. 1st European hotbed was from Germany btw.
I have no doubt in my mind that things in the U.S. are going to go south with this epidemic exponentially and very quickly.
Yeah I live in Milano and is super fresh news that for at least one month Lombardy will be a restricted area basically like Wuhan. Of course theaters will be closed at least for another month.
🙄🙄🙄
Wow...
This film will fail if this is what they are pushing regardless of circumstances. The whole thing feels insulting especially the racist white people part leaves me turned off. The whole thing is forced for woke points make her 009 from Spectre and be done with it nope not good enough we need to make a statement and we don't care if we lose money is all I hear what an insult to fans. There is progression and then there is insults this is pure agenda insults.
