Agree completely! TLD was my first Bond film in the cinemas. It was magnificent and same when I saw LTK - that 3 year period of 1987 through to about 1990 was my absolute zenith of Bond adoration (including reading all the books and hunting down all the films on VHS).
When Casino Royale hit - I was ecstatic. I knew going in it was going to be the business and it proved to be so.
I think I'd have to order them as follows:
TLD
AVTAK
FYEO
LTK
OP
I don't hate Licence by any means, it just had to go somewhere.
OP
LTK
TLD
AVTAK
Only difficulty ranking these films for me, is my ever changing ranking of LTK and TLD. In the most recent viewings, LTK ranks the highest – despite some of its obvious flaws.
Truly fantastic photo.
Agreed. Wasn't that the first one released of Dalton as Bond? Or one similar! Awesome shot!
It's on this..i used to own a copy at one time, lost now I think :
Oh yeah. I had that book too. It looks better, isolated from all the text etc.

Need a no nonsense director like Glen more than ever. Bond films don't need auteurs.

5 TLD

I don't recall the last time I did this.

I think Glen was a brilliant director for the 80's Bond films. Often under appreciated I feel. Most if not all of Glen's films have a good rewatchability value.

I thought you would approve.

Love em all!
Licence to Kill - ****1/2
The Living Daylights - ****
For Your Eyes Only - ****
Octopussy - ***
A View to a Kill - *1/2
My ranking would be:
1. The Living Daylights
2. Licence to Kill
3. Octopussy
4. For Your Eyes Only
5. A View to a Kill
You're way too kind with the film.
FYEO- Second half is much more enjoyable once Bond leaves Cortina
OP- Second half once Bond and octopussy meet face to face.
AVTAK- Falls apart once Bond meets with Howe
TLD- I enjoy the first half until Pushkins fake assassination.
LTK- Once Bond arrives in Ishtmus City is when I really like it

Tier 1
1.) LTK - Has been up and down my rankings, but I could see if taking top 3 this year.
2.) TLD - Was briefly my favorite Bond film. Has dropped a bit, but still in top tier
Tier 2
3.) OP - Use to be 2nd to last but has risen steadily and now dances around the top 10.
Tier 3
4.) AVTAK - has never ascended the upper half of my rankings, but it's at a high point right now. Even though it's darker at spots, I just enjoy this one and have a lot of fun with it.
5.) FYEO - another that is solid all around and I enjoy each time, but one has to come last.
2. LTK
3. FYEO
4. OP
5. AVTAK
For Your Eyes Only
A View To A Kill
Octopussy
A License To Kill
LTK - Probably a bit ahead of it's time but that what make's it so great
OP - I quite like the mix of humour and dead serious moments
FYEO - Some great action set pieces
TLD - Necros rather overshadows the main bad guys
AVTAK - Not even Christopher Walken can save this mess.
LTK - After rewatching this movie recently, I discovered I liked it a lot more than how I first remembered it. This could easily have been top of my list with a different score (John Barry) and a bigger budget.
The Rest:
OP - Rewatched this recently and thought it was pretty awful, but it still has some worthy cinematography. Apart from a good Fleming short story, it's really Carry On Up the Jungle with everything played for laughs. For once, I didn't even like Barry's score that much.
FYEO - Again, it has some decent cinematography, but I felt cheated when I first saw this back in 81 due to Cubby making out it was back-to-basics, only to discover that it opens with a silly PTS of arch-enemy Blofeld being dropped down a chimney stack, not to mention Margaret Thatcher's in it and Denis, too, and of course that bloody silly parrot. Should've featured a new 007 and jettisoned the goofiness totally.
AVTAK - It was my least favourite Bond movie when it first came out, that was until DAD overtook it. Great title song by Duran Duran, but even that can't save this from being almost bottom of the pile. Just for the record, DAD is 20,000 leagues under the sea lower than AVTAK.
