    He was the face on the milk carton. A moderately decent actor, no more or less. He's not to blame for the messes, nor to be lauded for successes. Look behind the curtain. CIA & ex-CIA were running the show then. What a pivotal era, politically.

    Ah, the great Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders. The first two albums are bloody brilliant and under-rated imo. This track is from the third album (I think) Learning To Crawl, by which time two of the original Pretenders, Pete Farndon and James Honeyman-Scott were no longer with us. Chissie though is a true rock-n-roll icon, she maybe American, but the Pretenders are a great British rock group!
    I see that all the Pretenders albums are being re-released in expanded versions, I and II are surely a 'must buy'.

    Yeah, Chrissie is the real deal.
    I remember The Police and U2 being overwhelmingly huge for this decade. Then Duran Duran and Motley Crue in the latter half. And that material girl, too, of course. :) I always liked Jon Bovi, as well.

    I once saw The Pretenders and U2 at the same gig, along with Lone Justice and Big Audio Dynamite. Not among the best shows I have been to, but interesting just the same.

    I can't quite picture having all of them together. Just The Pretenders and U2 I could really get into, though.

    Wow, sounds like an awesome gig. Love BAD, and Lone Justice, not a huge fan of U2 but do have some of their stuff, and love The Pretenders (especially original line-up).
    In 1985 on July 4th, Independence Day I got to see Bruce Springsteen play live at Wembley Stadium - fan-bloody-tastic, what a show. Would love to catch another Springsteen concert, great value for money.

    I got to see Springsteen in the Orange Bowl in the early 80's (maybe '82) for a 2 hours plus set (I think close to 3 hours) that was absolutely fantastic. So memorable.

    My favorite stuff from the 80s:

    -Movies - Indiana Jones trilogy, Batman '89, Beetlejuice, The Shining, The Fox and the Hound, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Labyrinth - some of my favorites ever.
    -Nintendo stuff - beginning of awesome franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid!
    -Megadeth
    -Reagan - I know ol' Birdleson hates him (I shudder to think what he thinks of W. Bush...), but he's one of my favorite presidents - great sense of humor at the very least!
    -The advances of technology in general

    He backed the Contras. They were bad guys. Congress forbade it. Reagan had it done with drug money black bag style. He should have faced criminal charges for that, at least. Luckily for him, he had a fall guy.
    It truly mystifies me how corrupt & duplicitous idiots get fans.

    As far as I know, I didn't think there was definitive evidence found that Reagan himself was responsible for the scandal?

    So, funnily enough, it seems the 80's are going to be our most politically discussed decade here! Ha! Not the 60's or the 70's, even with Watergate. But Reagan. Yeah, one is split - either you like him or cannot stand him. Personally, I realized a long time ago the affable actor was not good for our country. I stand by what Birdleson and chrisisall have said. But ... I don't want this to be a really big political debate here. Feel free to chime in with what you like, or don't like about Reagan, but let's not debate or deride others (let me be clear - that has not happened yet; just warding off future deterioration of the thread). And we can get into the other changes, cultural aspects of this decade in more depth, too, I hope. :)>-

    The Georgio Moroder version of Metropolis was awesome. I'd seen a version of it before on PBS, but this new extended version with the wild wild 80's soundtrack was something entirely different!

    Off topic: @Birdleson, I've read extensively on the restored versions, even the one with the newly discovered 16mm stuff. As a severe film buff, which is the best version?
    On topic: The Moroder 80's version had a beat, and you can dance to it!! \m/

    Have just bought the Ultimate Collector's Edition [Eureka - Masters of Cinema label] of Metropolis (this must be the fourth or fifth version I've owned), it has the most recent reconstruction and the Moroder version to boot! Not a fan of what Moroder did, but he was partly responsible for giving this magnificent film more publicity and a wider audience. But you can't beat the original version. A truly ground-breaking movie.
