That is key, @chrisisall. What was your gut reaction and level of enjoyment as you have just finished the film?

I still have not had time to read much on other threads, but I will. I know that as a group we love to dissect and then give our many, many, oh so many suggestions how to "fix" things. ;) Still the best forum, though. I'll probably have my salt shaker with me as I read posts ...
  • CR was definitely that way for me. SF was particularly that way, SP largely that way. QoS, not so much.

Now that the visual language of QOS is as clear as day to me, I look forward to each viewing of that as well.

I always enjoy seeing CR and I recently watched SF on a "play hooky day".

I plan on doing another theatrical viewing of SP (this weekend ) and when it comes out I will buy the blue-ray and add to my "Bond 50" collection. the boxed set has no room for another film it will have to be placed next to the box set...forgive me, I'm wandering...

Point I was making is I always get a kick out of re watching Bonds. There are a few that I re watch over and over and there are two or three that I have no interest whatsoever in taking another look at (DAF, TSWLM. MR, DAD)

I can only agree on MR, but that's just me.

@Chrisisall if you went back and counted which Bonds have you seen the most (counting theater and home video, and DVD?)

To take if further, which have you seen the fewest times?

I will praise TSWLM as the time when Rog finally hit his stride and the film is entertaining but I just have no intention of watching it again. I saw it twice when it came out back in 1977 but I have not looked at it since.

SF- 1.5 times. Will try again soon.
    MR- 2 times. Done.
AVTAK- 4 times now. I like it way more than the first 3 times.
The rest? A LOT. TOO many times according to my family.

“Casino Royale had to be a bit different,” says Kleinman. “It was Bond starting off. Before the title sequence he wasn’t even 007, so the titles are really about him becoming a 00 agent. The dancing girls were left out for narrative reasons as Bond was not yet the lady-killer that he is to become; he has not had his heart broken and been betrayed by a woman and he’s not the deadly assassin who needs to throw himself into the life-affirming physicality of sex to compensate for the horror of the constant death surrounding him.”

Just had to extract that from @4EverBonded passage about the main titles. Kleinman really knows his Bond.

Great quote from Kleinman. Can't say I got any of that from watching them, but I don't really care. They're amongst my favourite titles in the series and YKMN is IMO the best post-Barry Bond song.

Loved the SP titles too for different reasons - very OTT and campy in an enjoyable way.

The octopus ... reminded me of erotic Japanese paintings. Anybody else familiar with those? I discovered them in a BBC article months ago.

I've seen them all over 15 times each, easily (except for SP, of course). The original Connery's and first few Moore's, well over forty times each.

Same here................. but I only watch them in theaters and never on DVD. Matter of waiting for them to show up at revival theaters. (Even SPECTRE which I just got on DVD yesterday - non bootlegged BTW).

I know what you mean. I loved the unashamed campiness of the Spectre titles. The naked Craig bit had me in stitches. Very amusing. Couldn't help thinking how much he must have enjoyed filming those bits. They were the most humorous titles for a long time!

One approach to a Bond-a-Thon is to watch the early films as you saw them originally.
I saw DN and GF on a double bill, then two years later I saw FRWL and TB on a double bill. I'm not saying I would wait two years between my screenings, that would be "kinky".
From OHMSS onward I caught them during theatrical runs....
Finally caught the elusive YOLT seven years after its release on a Double bill with DAF (which I had already seen on its release in '71)
I don't know if I'd want to watch DAF ever again...

@Birdleson you got SP on DVD? How? When? What connections?? You lucky afficianado!
  • Not an original, but here's the ranking anyhow:

    Best Gun Barrel: SP
    Best PTS: CR
    Best Theme song: CR
    Best Girl: CR
    Best Villain: SF
    Best Ally: CR (Felix)
    Best sacrificial: SF (Severine)
    Best Set Piece: QoS (hotel)
    Best Titles: CR
    Best Climax: SF
Best Bad Henchman: SP (Big Dave)
    Best gadget: SF (radio)

So that's 5 for Casino Royale, 4 for Skyfall, 2 for Spectre, and 1 for Quantum of Solace.

Hi, all - I'm a bit feverish, feeling rotten, and leaving work soon.
Please excuse my absence for a day or so. I have to work the next 2 days in a row, but this may not be so easy.

I'm enjoying the different discussions here, so please do just carry on. :-bd

Back in a while ... never fear, 4EverBonded will return. Just currently have the energy of a damp rag. :-<

October 1966 in my home town San Antonio, Texas....the old Majestic theater...

first off, Kleinman rocks. I hope they keep him to the end of his days. He does understand Bond in the best sense and indeed has made some stunning titles.
then the 'Oscars' for Craig's Bond:
    Best Gun Barrell SP
    Best PTS QoS
    Best Theme song CR
    Best Girl Swann!!!!!! (SP)
    Best Villain Silva from SF
    Best Ally Leiter CR
Best sacrificial lamb Solange from CR
Best Set Piece CR the cranes /building site
    Best Titles CR
    Best Climax SF
Best Bad Henchman Hinx from SP
Best gadget DB10 Gadgets make sense as 'standard'gadgets and I like the fact they don't all work.
Best epilogue QoS. Facing Yussef and then walking out was epic.

Must say though, there's many a close call. If there's one thing that can be said about the Craig era is that he keeps on delivering at a very high level.

I appreciate my fellow originals chiming in on my "Best of the Craig Bonds" with several of you naming your "bests". Keep it coming. :)

Also, now that this is TB's 50th anniversary how will you remember it? A re watch of this epic and iconic film or will you just let it slide?

THUNDERBALL used to be a mid-level venture for me (especially at the drive-in as a child, coming off of YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE as the first feature, that one being far more kid-friendly). But over the past ten years or so it has become a favorite, a perennial Top Ten. Connery is superb, the drama is tight, but the two strongest components are the dialogue (the best in the series) and Luciana Paluzzi as Fiona Volpe. Sure, the Main Villain is not up to his predecessors and it does get a bit slow at moments, but that hardly hammers the total experience.

I don't have the exact ranking, but TB is among my 8 favourites.

DN, FRWL, GF, TB, OHMSS, FYEO, TLD, CR.

TB is truly a fan fav and face it Paluzzi has the screen smoking. She will always be one of my favorite top 3-4 Bond girls. I started the post "Is Thunderball Overrated? " a while back and I see that lots of members still chime in. I just wanted to take a minute and reflect on December 1965 when this film hit the theaters.
It rode the wave of the Bondmania at its height following iconic GF. I was not so impressed when I saw it in 1968 but I enjoy watching it nowadays. What really impresses me are the vibrant colors that just scream out at you. (compare it to the PTS of SP ...) I'm not knocking SP in anyway its just how the Technicolor of the sixties looked so... go back and watch other sixties classics like "Dr, Zhivago" , "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Zulu" and you will see what I mean...

I enjoy Thunderball, but not often. It is not strongly compelling for me, though I do enjoy Sean in it. I can definitely see why men would be crazy about Luciana; she comes across very strong and self confident ... and yes, red hair. Sort of like an evil Maureen O'Hara ...! ;)

Thunderball is my top 1 film. It's fun, has a great villain, fantastic colours, still qute a bit suspense, three gorgeous women of which Luciana takes the cake, fantastic locales. Yup, love it. Yes, the under water sequences (especially ankering the bomber) are dragging, but that's what you get when something is that new to the general public. We're far more used to underwater activities these days. Oh, and the music, of course, is top notch.

Some trivia about Thunderball: It was originally intended to be the first Bond adventure in 1962 but McClory sued Fleming because the book was based on the screenplay they had done together in 1959. Cubby and Harry decided the property was too hot to handle so DR NO was chosen instead. But you already knew that...

McClory claimed to own the rights to Blofeld, the White Cat and many elements of that book/film and he hounded EON until he mercifully passed away...

Also, in the original concept, the bad guys were Sicilian Mafia but then they came up with the idea of SPECTRE ...

Let me guess, is TSWLM the one that's missing? :)
TSWLM is probably the next one on my list, but these eight films are 'the untouchables'.
