SA: 1 : OHMSS - 2 : Skyfall - 3 : Casino Royale - 4 : you only live twice - 5 : thunderball
MB: Goldfinger, Goldeneye, Skyfall and SPECTRE
WL: Dr. No, FRWL, Moonraker, GE and CR
PH: GF, Dr. No and CR
HD: LALD & TMWTGG
FB: All with Sean Connory & Roger Moore, don't care for the rest
EO: OHMSS (considering Moore Bond a psycho because of the jokes, Timothy Dalton as the most sexy. Don't know if that's an argument for making his films 'classics')
These results are rather hard to tally, but some deductions are safe:
Seans' films score high, as may have been expected, but OHMSS does score well too. Films I hadn't expected would make it were Moonraker and Golden Gun (double checked on that one, he really considers it a classic).
@CommanderRoss, that is interesting! Thanks for sharing. I think OHMSS only got 2 votes though. And one person just voted their favorites it seems ... they really think all of those are classics (ALL of Sean's and Roger's)? Well okay, it is their opinion after all.
It's fun to get a peek at what the more "general" public think of as classic Bond films, not just us. I thought perhaps Moonraker would be on there, but Golden Gun is a bit of a surprise. I am a lifelong fan and I remember clearly being annoyed with it when I left the theater.
I know we all use the word "originals" and such in regular conversation, as Bond fans, and that is fine for all of our conversations. But just to clarify the term as in pertains to this particular thread, it means the following, as stated by SirHenry in his opening paragraph of this thread, years ago:
****************
This one is dedicated to the fans on this Forum who saw their first Bond movie starring Sean Connery in the theater. Fans who saw OHMSS as their first Bond movie in the theater can also join in, as you no doubt saw the Connery films as well during that time. The point of the thread is that it is geared largely to those of us around 50 and older who were the original fans of Bond and have witnessed the changes of lead actor and general direction over the years.
*****************
So for certain things we do on this thread, we poll the Originals (as per above definition) for their opinion. If you saw a Bond film starring Sean (or George Lazenby) in the theater during its original release, then you are counted as an Original on this thread. At the same time, we want ranging, interesting, and fun discussion from all. And everybody can add their own reviews and lists. We keep track of the Originals' rankings and lists, polls, etc. separately.
Now we are listing Classic Bond Films. There were will 2 final lists. Those of the Originals (per above) and those with everybody else who is participating here (including the Originals in that one, too).
So all are welcome, keeping with the spirit and tone of this thread. Have fun! And thanks for joining us.
QOS is this century's FRWL
I'll never understand the little love QOS gets. Even if the editing is hurting some action scenes.
TMWTGG is a true classic too. One of the best villains ever and the best weapon ever.
Every actor is classic too. Not one that could even remotely be called a failure.
But we are putting the word "classic" here to designate ones we feel will stand the test of time, that are great films and deserve special status. So I cannot say all are of that high a caliber.
OK, I just re-read their comments and I assume they mean "almost" .... so those should not be counted. Close but no cigar. ;)
I just made it; DAF was my first Bond film in the cinema ... although I think my parents took me to Thunderball, but I am honestly too hazy about that in my memory
The second was AVTAK which I only went to see because of Duran Duran's A View To A Kill which to this day is the greatest song ever made (for me). And of course, the title sequence to this day is the best of them all.
My "real" first Bond experience was The Living Daylights. And that was a life-changing experience.

Oh man it's late...
DN is the only real classic right now....
22 other lists to follow.
We will then have the Originals list and the 2nd List (nonOriginals, in addition to Originals).
After that, which should be interesting enough in itself, I'd like us to rank that chosen list. And that does not have to be everybody, but at least the Originals to do so. Then we can look at how many Originals chose Goldfinger as #1, etc. I'd like that - so we would have a list of Classic Bond films, in ranking order, by Originals on this thread.
But first step, please everybody get us your list of Classic Bond films. That is the current step. Thanks! :)>-
Might be kind of hard. The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh was first broadcast in the USA on the Sunday Night Walt Disney show in the early '60s, although I've since seen it at least once with Sir Lew Grade's ITW logo attached. Anyway, Disney still owns the rights & they're pretty stingy about letting much more than pieces of it out on places like YouTube. Here's the theme song & some of the scarier parts of the 3 episodes that were shown back in the day. Probably the creepiest stuff ever shown on the Disney show back when I was just a wee lad. That's Patrick McGoohan under the Scarecrow's mask & you should recognize someone else from the Bond films in this brief snippet...
Happy hunting for the full storyline. Maybe it's on Netflix or something, I dunno. If you like Disney's version of Zorro you should enjoy this!
Dr. No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Thunderball
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Live And Let Die
The Living Daylights
Goldeneye
Casino Royale
Skyfall
Now this is on the basis of how well the films are made combined with my understanding of public perseption AND how much they reflect Fleming's material. It's not my top 10, as Goldfinger wouldn't have made the cut and QoS would.
But, considering the responses I had on my FB request, I'd add (and confuse the discussion here) by mentioning films that may not be classics, but certainly are iconic:
You Only Live Twice
The Man With The Golden Gun
The Spy Who Loved Me
Moonraker
These films are all very well known to the public, not because of their quality per sé, but because they are stand-out films that are very much Bond to the public eye. The cinematic Bond, one could argue.
Dr No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Thunderball
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Live And Let Die
For Your Eyes Only
Octopussy
The Living Daylights
Goldeneye
Casino Royale
There's a couple on here that aren't Top 10 for me.
