Peter Thomas, at least one of a very limited number of Germany's top film composers, died two days ago at the age of 94. Thomas was an accomplished jazz musician who created a large number of movie soundtracks for German productions, most notably a series of films based on the works of Edgar Wallace, but also for TV productions such as "Der Kommissar", "Derrick" and "Der Alte". One outstanding work and maybe his most well-known is his music for the miniseries "Raumpatrouille" (Space Patrol), which dealt with the adventures of the crew of the space ship "Orion" and was probably the first science-fiction show on German TV. It was a huge success, and if German TV were commercially-oriented (there was no private TV station in Germany then) it would have continued...instead of re-running the original six episodes for 20 times so far. People tend to think of it being a bit of a rip-off of Star Trek...but the first episode aired a mere nine days after Star Trek's debut, and all the episodes had been completed by then.

Indeed : I remember seeing The New One-Armed Swordsman and being surprised to hear themes from OHMSS. And it would not be the last time.

I recall first seeing Richard Herd in Trancers in my youth, gives me a good excuse to rewatch it today. Later of course he was in Seaquest, though he must have appeared in every show around the era.

Looks like Karl Malden but I’ll always remember him as Heather Locklear’s dad on T.J. HOOKER, playing Captain Dennis Sheridan!

Richard Herd was also in a very good episode of MATLOCK titled “The Captain” where he played a murderous police captain, an old friend of Matlock’s.

Actor Anthony James has passed away aged 77.

He appeared in In the Heat of the Night, Unforgiven and The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear, among others. He was also in Prescription: Murder, a TV movie which featured Peter Falk's first performance as Columbo.

Here's his hilarious appearance in The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (that's a title I won't ever get tired of typing). James plays murderer Hector Savage.

    Rest in peace, Anthony James.

The legendary comic book writer Denny O'Neil, who in the 60s had, with Neal Adams, revigorated Batman and put Green Lantern and Green Arrow on a road trip to remember, has passed away, aged 81.

There's not a comic book collection that is complete without one of his works. Myself, I have his complete run on The Question in mine.

Damn. Denny O Neil was a household name. His collaborations with Adams, as mentioned above by @Gerard, was one of the peaks in superhero comics.

I remember the way Denny O'Neil (with Julius Schwartz and Neal Adams) revamped the Batman titles after the Adam West TV show went off the air and the "Camp" direction was no longer popular with the comics reading public. His work with Neal Adams on GL/GA was also a highlight of comics storytelling -- and let's not forget that he also did a fair amount of work for Marvel, both as a writer and an editor. Denny is clearly one of the most important writers in the history of comics. Condolences to his family, friends, and co-workers.

RIP Denny! Half of my Batman comics collection is stuff he made. This is a sad moment for me... :( Great guy! I loved listening to him. Kev Smith did a wonderful podcast with him a few years ago. So sad.

Neal Adams and Denny O'Neill were the guys who brought back the adult themes to superhero comic books after the unforgivable meddling of Dr. Fredric Wertham. That alone makes them deserving of a place in the comic Olympus.

If Fredric Wertham was the farao, Denny and Neil were Mozes. They set us free.
