Today Doggie Heaven earned a well-deserved angel. After 14 years, today we put down our dog, Buddy. He was always loyal, but towards the end of his life, he had many health problems. In particular, keeping his balance and possibly dementia. I did get teary-eyed saying goodbye. I know he’s in a better place, but he will live in my heart forever. RIP Buddy, you are loved and missed.
Sorry to hear about this as I can completely identify. My family and I had a similar experience earlier this year with our Cocker, Sophie. She had congestive heart failure and just wanted to lay down the last few days. It caused a lot of tears for us. Fortunately, her brother is still with us.

Thank you all for your support and care during this tough time. It means a lot in my heart that we can care about each other on this website, and not just about a fictional character. Thank you all.

I'm real sorry to hear this. It's never easy losing a beloved pet, especially when they're simply another member of your family. 14 years is a good, long time, though, and I bet he enjoyed every second he got to spend with you guys. Take comfort in knowing he's no longer suffering, at least.

Pro Football (US) Hall of Famer John Madden has died.

For those of you that live outside of the US (or are not football fans) you may not have heard of him, but for me this is a big loss. First as a coach, then as a broadcaster, and finally as the video game personality, he was larger than life.

Not only Madden, but also Mr. Jeff Dickerson, who covered one of my two teams in the league, the Chicago Bears. So young and tragic.

    Thanks for the link @RichardTheBruce.

Cool new gadgets for Betty include: a Rocket powered rascal scooter that doubles as a submarine. A walker equipped with double submachine guns and a flame thrower.

I saw that copy of People Magazine on Thursday and the thought did cross my mind:"but what if....."

A nice summary from Turner Classic Movies (TCM) - as usual - of the many film stars we lost in 2021. The Bond Family is well represented.

Woke to the news that the legendary and iconic Betty White has sadly passed.
What gut wrenching news to start 2022. It was if she would live forever. Whenever you saw her she had so much energy, so much life in her. No signs of quitting.
    A sad loss. RIP.

His brother Igor has just joined him in the afterlife. Both had refused to be vaccinated, both had caught the CoVid, both have died. Sad, really. I have fond memories of their TV show on saturday afternoons, Temps X, which, in a time when french TV didn't really like science-fiction, tried to fill the gaps.

    Director Peter Bogdanovich has died.

While he is best known for directing such classics as The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon and What’s Up, Doc he could also be found on various podcasts and DVD commentaries in recent years discussing “golden age” films like Citizen Kane.

RIP Sidney Poitier. There are many films of his I have yet to see. It will be a fun project to undertake.

I was just reading a Variety interview with Denzel Washington, in which he said he regretted never working with Poitier before he retired.

Same here. I have no words. A pioneer and a great actor, Poitier was also a role model for so many.
He leaves behind a rich body of work (I'm reaching for my DVD of A Patch of Blue as I type this).

    RIP

R.I.P. Peter Bogdanovich and Sidney Poitier both Legends in cinema.
  • Sidney Poitier. Man, the legends are dropping like flies. Raisin in the Sun is his best role to me, but your mileage may certainly vary.
