Karen Allen sees it how I do.

“I guess you could say [there are sinister undertones],” Allen said about the scene. “I think I say I was 16. I don’t know. That’s always what I imagined is she was 16, he was 26. And he was her father’s student. And it’s left very mysterious. We don’t even know what it is. I mean, they could have kissed a few times, and she was just completely bowled over, and he could have just not wanted to get involved with someone so young. And maybe my father would have been furious at him.”

That's always been my take on it. Indy was never a rapist or pedophile, and Spielberg and Lucas were never trying to suggest that. I think some people are looking for something that's not there, based on a few lines. It's open to your own interpretation, so if Indy is some sort of sexual predator to underage women, then that's some weird hero.

It is a weird choice for the hero yes, that’s why people talk about it so often and why it comes up in this thread repeatedly.
According to the script she was 15. It’s odd no matter how you look at it, but there it is.

For such a creative and successful person, Lucas sure can be clueless ! As I noted earlier - if Indy is a person who would do this, IT WOULD NOT BE THE FIRST OR LAST TIME. Pedophiles are repeat offenders ! Those young ladies at the university ? Oh, they're safe from him. Because they're too OLD. He'd be more interested in their younger sisters. This is not just some odd little something-or-other in Indy's background. It's ignorant and awful. Ignorant because if Indy did this, it would be character-defining, personality-defining. It would be the MOST IMPORTANT THING IN HIS LIFE. For Indy to be interested in Marion when she's grown up, as we see her in two films, it would be for COVER. A sham relationship for him. I suppose we all have had much more opportunity to learn all this since the days the film was written, planned and produced, thanks to more documentaries, books, films and so on. Still, if you're going to mess with something like that in a film at the time it was being written and prepared, doesn't SOMEONE speak up !? Wouldn't SOMEONE suggest conferring with a specialist with experience - a detective, a psychologist, a doctor, a PRISON WARDEN ?

Wasn't that her line from IJATKOTCS (good grief that's such an absurdly long title...why not just IJATCS ???) It's bound to be someone's line in the next film, "Indiana Jones and What Happened to Wife Marion and Son Mutt ?" Of course, if I looked as good for my age NOW as does H Ford for his age - significantly older than I - I'd be doing fine.

He’s not actually real though, so he reacts in any way the writers decide he does. He encounters some magic stones, believes enough in them to repeat an incantation to make them heat up so the baddie drops one, and then a few years later when he’s going after the Ark he doesn’t believe in anything supernatural for some reason.
He’s not real, it’s easily ignored and it has been.

Exactly, this is not a real person, and no matter what initial concepts may have been dancing in Lucas’ head, they didn’t make it on to the screen. There is nothing in Raiders that confirms that the fictional characters of Indiana and Marion being involved in an intimate relationship.

I feel total disgust and contempt for pedophiles ; their behavior is reprehensible and unforgivable but to get upset at (the fictional) Indy and Marion’s relationship seems like a waste of energy.

Indiana Jones and Believe It or Not After That Last One Here Is Another One
    or
    IJABIONATLOHIAO
Amazingly, it will be a title even longer than the absurdly long IJATKOTCS
    Should just have been IJATCS

I think that's a touch boring, a bit like calling the second one 'Indiana Jones and the Temple'.
I think John Williams had it right in his track titles though, 'Indiana Jones and the Call of the Crystal Skull' might have been nice. Or even maybe 'Land of the Crystal Skull'? Just one syllable shorter I think.

I actually like the alliterative crunch of Kingdom and Crystal. But yes, the title feels just a tad too long. Mind you, I remember thinking IJATTOD was absurdly long back in '84!

I wish they'd all been Raiders of the...

Yes indeed, that was the original plan. I guess 'Indiana Jones' is just too good a name to throw away though.

I think it should be called
THE INDIANA JONES to emphasize that Harrison is back and that only HE can play the role.

if that case I would hope EON would look through Fleming titles to see one with The in the title so we get

    The Hildebrand Rarity :D

    or The Risico ;)

I had a dream last night that I was touring Warner Brothers studios (which I am well aware is NOT the studio releasing Indy) and I accidentally walked into an executives' meeting where the Indy 5 title was written, in the familiar font, on the wall. It said INDIANA JONES AND THE GUARDIANS OF ETERNITY.

Obviously this has no basis in reality but I've decided that, if this becomes the title, I'm quitting my job and setting up shop as a psychic.

I had a nightmare last night that i was in Jason goes to hell situation and any time someone started acting like Jason you had to run to the car to drive away ... I hope your dream comes true more so then mine.

Doh ! How could I have forgotten Phoenix ?!!? His portrayal is one of my favorites. Passed at 23. Had he lived, he'd now be 52, and - for a while now - would have been an interesting alternative to H Ford playing a grown, mature Indy.

I have been told that my nightmares are too scary for even horror fans.. I used to be scared to go to sleep I now find the process annoying

    Step 1 go to sleep
strep 2 nightmare that jolts me awake
step 3 toss and turn resulting in a poor night sleep
