Great fun. Think i prefer this to the first film.

The scenes with Michelle Pfieffer's character got a bit silly, but overall it's action packed and very funny in places.

    Another winner for Marvel.

Rewatched Argento’s Suspiria and Inferno before getting to Guadagnino’s version of the former.

I dare say the original Suspiria is without any doubt one of my five favourite movies ever. It is a spectacle of the senses, with striking visuals, fairytale sets and haunting music. Edited with precision to turn this 1977 hit into the most thrilling film ride I’ve ever experienced.

Its sequel, Inferno, is not the same tour de force but it is nevertheless a highly enjoyable trip into the macabre. I’d still put it in my personal top 100.

With Argento being present another two or three times in that top 100, I’d say he’s probably my single favourite director and it would be an understatement that I was not happy that a remake of his best film was announced.

Turns out I quite liked the new Suspiria. I still have to decide how much I liked it, but I did enjoy the completely different take Guadagnino takes. It does not surpass the original but it doesn’t try to either. It has become an entirely different version of the same core story. Just as the original it leaves an impression on you that lingers on for quite a while, though in a completely different way. I’ll come back to this with a full review later on.

In the middle of Sudden Impact. I'd only seen this once about ten years ago when I was eleven. I didn't care for the plot, change in location, or Sandra Lockes performance. It immediately became my least favorite Dirty Harry film.

I'm quite enjoying it tonight though. It might move up to #3. The first two films are hard to beat.

I found Sudden Impact to be a film that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

It revels in the violence and sadism for the sake of it. Coming across as nothing but an ugly exploitation film. I found it a mean spirited and depressing experience.

It was the first Dirty Harry film directed by Eastwood himself and it lacks the nuance of the previous films (The Enforcer wasn't great but it was better than this)

The plot is weak and silly and any film trying to get laughs from a flatulent dog can only be pitied.

I haven't seen The Dead Pool which i believe was the last Harry movie.

I agree! Sudden Impact is a nasty ugly addition to tthe series. One critic dubbed it "not so much popcorn as cop porn!"
The Dead Pool isn't as bad but it's pretty poor.
Without doubt the first two are only worth watching. The original was always a favourite of mine!

SUDDEN IMPACT is probably my second favorite Dirty Harry movie. I can see why it may not sit well with some fans. It's extremely violent, and reminds me of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE.

It is odd in many ways compared to the others. Still I love it for what it is. Clint looks great as well, and has many great lines throughout.

I used to feel each film was slightly less that it's immediate predecessor. So I'd probably have ranked them chronologically. These days I appreciate the later films a bit more.

I don't think i'll ever bother with The Dead Pool.

My favourite is Magnum Force. It was the first one i ever saw and as a young teenager i love every minute of it! One of the first 'grown up' cop films that i'd seen.

I believe the awesome John Milius co-wrote it.

Of course i also love Dirty Harry.

If only the plot was altered slightly to include Charles Bronson instead of Sondra Locke. It would have been the movie of the century.

I just realized that these two legends were in the same film once. It never clicked before. The master and his successor when it comes to ageless badassery.

THE ENFORCER sits comfortably as #3 on my Dirty Harry rankings. It's not great - it's very a frustrating watch at times as all the elements are there that could have put it up with the first two films. But, taken on its own terms, it's a reasonably entertaining thriller. It just ends far to abruptly for my liking.

SUDDEN IMPACT and THE DEAD POOL were both pretty rubbish, I feel.

In another world, THE GAUNTLET is a pretty decent final chapter in the Dirty Harry quadrilogy.

Lol, Clint once said that the protagonist, Schockly, could have been Harry Callahan’s not so bright, long lost brother.

    Ranking the Dirty Harry films
    1. Dirty Harry (obviously)
    2. Magnum Force (if the climax was a little better then this would be #1.)
    Gap
    3. The Enforcer (good but feels somewhat lightweight after the previous two)
    4. Sudden Impact (grown on me but it's obvious this wasn't originally written as a Dirty Harry film)
    5. The Dead Pool (Need to watch it again)

Great film which I really enjoyed. Hats off to Tom Cruise who again under his guidance delivers another enjoyable caper. Great fun indeed.

    Oldboy (2013)

Caught this by accident the other day and despite the fact it got slaughtered by the critics I didn't think it was bad.

Obviously not a patch on the original but this remake features an intense performance from Josh Brolin and some amazing and violent action.

It just depends on your sense of humor. I found myself laughing numerous times. Neither the first two I found funny. Although the original 1966 version wasnt really meant to be. This one was made by the same studio that did Despicable Me so it's their sorta take on it.

    Darkest Hour 2017

Gary Oldman is brilliant but he usually is, his ability to be not just be a man in a suit with prosthetics is commendable. Although this is more of a testament to Oldman as an actor but not anything better than his Dracula for me.

I think Oldman's reading of George Smiley is a better performance, no gimmicks or grandstanding just a remarkably subtle piece of acting that remains for me some of his very finest work.

As far as the film outside of Oldman it's fine but I feel I've been spoilt by the quality of The Crown which does this thing so much better and with more depth and style.

I think cinema really struggles to match TV now when it comes to this kind of thing and that underground sequence just takes you out of the film and brings it to a screaming halt. I get the strategy here but I feel it could have been dealt differently and not so blatantly fake.

Worth a watch but I don't see myself buying it or returning to it for a very long time and glad I didn't take the decision to see it at the cinema, a free lend of a friends Blu ray suits me fine.

    3/5

    Yep, on the money.

Magnum Force is excellent, and the aircraft carrier provided a great setting for the final confrontation, but the motorcycle “joust” is handled very poorly and is not very satisfying.
The Enforcer feels and looks like a 70s cop show.
