Well, it was rough, but I have the game in my hands. I took a bus a ways away to my nearest Wal-Mart, went in, saw no copies of GTA V in the case, asked the guy working there if there were any copies left in stock, he goes in the back room, gets me a copy, I wait for him to ring me up, and just as I am about to pay he tells me he needs to see my ID. I show him my college ID (the only identification I have), and then takes the game out of the bag he put it into and tells me I couldn't buy it because they only accept state registered identification as a policy since apparently college IDs are "too easy to forge." I try to tell him that I would never use a fake ID in my life and that I am going to be twenty in a few weeks time, but it does no good. I lividly walk away, and head down the hill to where there is luckily a Game Stop. I walk in, explain what happened to me up at Wal-Mart to the nice guy that was at the counter, and he laughs at how stupid it was that they wouldn't accept my ID, responding in a mocking tone that you can't forge those kinds of IDs and proceeds to get me a copy of the game and sends me kindly on my way.

I can't wait to get home tomorrow and play it. It feels like I am five years old again and it is Christmas Eve. :)

It took a full five minutes, at LEAST, to fly a cargo plane halfway across the map during one of the missions. This map is ridiculous. Earlier on when I was chasing a crashing plane, I went from the observatory on the city limits to Sandy Shores on a Sanchez, and that was easily a good few minutes of bike riding.
  • It's brilliant but I have some issues with it.

    1) It's not on Wii U. Why?

    2) No fast travel. It's an amazing looking open world but I've found myself spending a lot of my time with this game driving along the same motorways between LA and the countryside. If I spawn in LA and want to get to the top of a mountain because I heard there was a parachute at the top, I don't want to drive there, get killed by police because I bumped into their car, drive there again from the hospital only to pull the parachute cord too late anyway.

    3) You still lose money when you die, it always annoyed me in past games and it annoys me now. I want to go on mad rampages but I feel like I'm constantly losing money. Yes it'd be fun to crash into the military base but I'll probably die and lose lots of money, and I want to be able to buy one of the decent businesses so I can actually earn some cash.

Red Dead actually solved those last two problems I have, so it seems weird that they're there again.

Thanks for adding me on PSN @StirredNotShaken :-)

Trevor may just about be one of my favourite characters ever!

I am just minutes of installation away from jumping into this. I'll let you all know my thoughts when/if I come up for air. ;)

Enjoy! Looking forward to your thoughts.

I really want to 100% this game and get as many achievements as possible, and I'm about 70% complete on the game right now. Just trying to do all the collectibles and side missions because I've no clue what happens at the end.

You can call a cab like in GTA IV - just bring up your cell phone and it's in contacts.

Trevor is so brilliant I would've been happy if he was the only protagonist in the game. I unlocked him the other day and I haven't played as the other two at all since.

Michael's pretty cool too, I like how he's a big film buff. Franklin seems a bit generic to me but I like the idea of his character (gang member who wants to be a bigger criminal).

Didn't know you could ring for one, thanks.

There's a picture circulating on the internet of a guy ecstatic to have the game, having waited for months and having paid only 40 dollars. The picture of the case? GTA IV.

So @Franklin just ruined the game for me. If anyone has an inbox from him, DO NOT READ IT.

My son is 14 and wants this game. He has played the first and that was not too bad. How does this compare? There is an 18 certificate here, so I would have to buy it for him. Glad for any help and advice.

I'd say he's a bit too young, but it depends on how mature he is. There is strong, strong language, nudity, blood, the whole nine yards.

I thought you were talking about an event in the actual game, until I saw someone with the username of Franklin sent me a message. Thankfully, your comment clicked and I only gave it a glance, and don't have anything spoiled. These kinds of people repel me to my core.

Plus drug abuse, graphic torture. It is however all tongue in cheek and fairly cartoonish violence. If he's fairly mature for his age, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

My advice would be to watch a few videos on YouTube and if make your own decision.

Crap. Just clicked on his profile and he's posted it on there too.

I just glanced at the post so it isn't completely spoiled but
    Trevor dying
    was ruined for me.

He completed the whole story in under a week, probably playing it non stop, then searched for a discussion on it and joined a forum he has no interest in just to spoil the game for everyone.

    What a sad, pathetic dickhead.

EDIT: remember quoting spoilers makes them visible so if he hasn't ruined it for you then don't quote my post, and don't click on the activity page.

@Thunderfinger This one (from what I've played) isn't really any worse than the others in terms of violence so if he's played the series before it should be fine.

Thank you all three for advice. I will ckeck it out on youtube perhaps and make up my mind.

Playing it now and I have some questions, help would be appreciated.

    1) Where can I find a DB5 (preferably one I can steal as I don't have much in game cash)

    2) When do I unlock the parachute and scuba gear

    3) Is anyone else having problems with the camera? Every time I try to save a picture it never works. I was trying to do save one just, it kept telling me to try again later but it was a really good one*

*crash landed a plane into the motorway and took a selfy with Trevor standing happily in front of the wreckage.

I'm currently 26 hours playing time and I've completed 29 of the 69 story missions.

    1. I haven't found the DB5 yet either.

    2. A parachute can be found atop of Mount Chilad on the cable car platform. At some point, you will be able to buy one from Ammu-Nation.

    3. I also can't save photos. I think The Social Club is still having problems, which is really annoying as Rockstar should have sorted out these types of bugs before the game went live. God help when 1st Oct comes because I can see the servers crashing with the amount of people wanting to play online.

The Social Club is definitely having problems, so don't bother taking pictures to save. It'll just upset you when it doesn't.

As for the DB5, you can purchase it online from one of the exotic auto sites, but it's 'unavailable.' I'm guessing you have to progress much further in the game to unlock the ability to buy it. I have around 20 missions left and it's still locked.
  • How many hours playing time are you at now @Creasy47?
  • Cheers guys. One more question

When I went to one of the clothes shops as Trevor (the posh one in LA, near Micheals house), there was a tux. I thought that'd be suited to Michael so when I switched later on I went back there, but the tux wasn't there anymore.

Can you actually buy a tuxedo for Michael? Or are some clothes character specific?
  • edited September 2013 Posts: 6,396
^ Can't help you with that one. I haven't tried buying a tux yet.
Does anyone know if the Stadium and Racecourse are playable arenas or are they just there for show? It would be cool to bet on races (as in GTA: San Andreas) or perhaps even become a jockey and race horses.

I don't think there is any gambling/casino-like events in the game.

@WillyGalore, I want to say I'm pushing close to thirty hours, but I'm literally doing EVERYTHING before completing the game. Did the Under the Bridge and Knife Flights, got gold on the hobbies and pasttimes, going for 100% completion, did the Kifflom! questline, and now I'm doing the stunt jumps. Then I'll move on to collectibles and getting gold in 70 missions and whatnot.
  • edited September 2013 Posts: 6,396
^ Wow. I'm doing plenty of the side missions too but nowhere near as many as you've done so far.

    What is Kifflom?

Is the map bigger than the one on GTA: San Andreas? Been so long since I played it. I'm aware that there were three cities plus the surrounding areas in that game.

@WillyGalore, yes, the map is a lot bigger than SA, but it's split about 60/40 between the city of Los Santos and the countryside of Blaine County.

'Kifflom!' is a saying from the Epsilon group, which is Rockstar's take on Scientology. Enter 'epsilonprogram.com' into the internet in the game, take the personality test, and your quest will begin shortly in the form of a unique symbol on the map.

Be warned: the quests are ridiculous, tedious, odd, and long.

Well, I am at this moment about 20% into the game, and I do love it.

I was blown away by the innovation of it, and all the things you can do in that massive breathing open world. The missions I have played so far have been great, I love all the characters, and I love all the mechanics from the driving to the gunplay which hasn't been this good for as long as I can remember. I was skeptical in part about the character switching mechanic, but it actually works phenomenally, and I love how the characters each lead their own lives while you aren't playing them, giving them an even greater sense of life than ever before. Your characters even sweat for crying out loud! The details are what make it all so grand. I love all the random crime that you can get caught up in and help stop in some cases, and that you can randomly walk into your house and get into an argument with your wife who is passed out drunk on the couch or mediate an argument between your kids upstairs. Phenomenal! The movements and everything I take Rockstar to task on usually are much improved, so that is brilliant to see. The vast amount of clothing there is to buy is amazing, all the activities startling and I literally thought it was the coolest thing ever to go diving deep underneath the water. I have wanted to do that in a video game forever, and the little stuff like that is just part of what makes a game like this a great one. You know a game is good when you get distracted from the story to become caught up in all the amazing off-mission activities it has to offer. It is embarrassing how many times I have gone swimming, and I can't wait to get that diving gear to explore even further. I can't wait to get back into playing this, sleep and food be damned.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post, the site was acting up on me. Is there any way to get rid of the duplicate post below, mods?

My biggest complaints are how arcade-y the driving is and how bad the driving damage is. I just became so spoiled by how fantastic the GTA IV driving/damage was that I'm upset with this one.

I like this one's driving better than IV. I think the vehicles damage the same for the most part, but the handling is way better, where you don't feel like you are constantly driving on a sheet of ice.

The driving was horrible in IV. I feel much more comfortable behind the wheel here.
  • The banter between the three characters, particularly Trevor, is fantastic. Genuinely very very funny. Haven't laughed like this for a while. The script is quite excellent.
