I don't think it matters. They would just bring different things to the table acting-wise, that's all.
This is a fun discussion but futile. Bond wil be played by a white actor for a long long time because a non-white Bond would sell less tickets. Sad but true.
The one thing I don't understand is that why are there so many discussions on the internet about a potential black Bond and no discussions about an Asian Bond or a latino Bond etc. They may end up casting an ethnic Asian actor in the role before a black one...
Yes, I'd probably agree. I'd very much like them to face off. Like I say, I think Idris is insanely charismatic, almost a black Connery, but Craig is equally confident. A face-off would be electric, I think.
If this forum existed at Daniel Craig's casting, and if he had declared, "I'll train to get ripped as no Bond had been before", would it have been accepted ? Fleming's Bond is not supposed to be that fit, he even has to train specifically on some occasions. Maybe we would have had tons of posts about Bond turning into a gay icon, or into a generic US blockbuster hero.
Yet, ripped and non-smoking Craig is very well accepted now.
So, in the end, many that claim they would not accept a black Bond, may accept it far more easily than they think if it happens some day !
You are right, we have moved on and Bond films allow mild swearing, but the problem we have is that if we say yes go ahead, no bars to the language you can use, we end up with people F-ing away because they either think it's cool or they can't think of a better adjective to use.
It's really an all or nothing situation, and until we (mods) are told otherwise, swearing isn't on the agenda. ;-)
That took me five viewings in theaters to make 100% sure that was really what she said.
I bet it did ,i even had to look at the script online to make sure she said it - and she did.
I understand and I don't really have a problem with the no swearing rule. My problem is that I've seen much more offensive/vulgar posts on here than what I posted (which was "wtf are you on about?" for people who didn't see it), but they've gotten away with it because they didn't swear.
I feel like that might be going over the line a bit, holding it against an actor because the color of his skin. What if he was an absolutely phenomenal actor with excellent range who nailed every aspect of Bond perfectly, excluding his race? Would you still rank him as one of the lowest?
probably, as it would for me be the end of Ian Flemings 007. I would stick to the previous movies and the books. It would just not be my idea of 007.
Would you accept it if he was referred to as black in a new book? Or if the author tries to write as Ian Fleming-as a negro ? Not trying to be funny, just wondering.
Not only no but hell NOOOOO!!! (imagine yourself standing in front of man high loudspeakers turned to maximum volume)
This discussion is going beyond ridiculousness. Don't you guys realize, that some of you are getting more and more similar to the endlessly debating "terrorists" in The life of Brian from argument to argument?
It's actually not that bad. As always, if you don't like it you can easily stay out of it.
No I would not.
Like so many original characters getting a new writer, if they change the essentials the book is no longer about the original character so I would not read it. The newer writers have enough trouble to match the Fleming output as it is so I would not be bothered.
I don't mind a black Bond.
....... and the day it does happen then Tom Hanks should be cast as John Shaft or Black Dynamite...
They should come up with some good awesome black characters that don't involve Tyler Perry and then run with them, instead of having to cannibalize white ones..... case in point - the character of Django from the most recent Tarantino movie - F-ing brilliant.... i could get behind a Django series of films if it were to happen (i know it wont though).
Leave Barbara out of the gutter language comments please. :(
