Paul Greengrass has confirmed his next project as director: News Of the World.

News Of the World is based on the best-selling novel by Paulette Jiles, set in the days following the Civil War. It charts the unlikely friendship between Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, an earlier precursor to today’s newscasters, and the 10-year-old girl he is tasked with bringing to her relatives.

Tom Hanks is also onboard the project, and will portray the lead character (Captain Kidd), marking his 6th film where he is a Captain - Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, Captain Phillips, Sully and Greyhound being the others.

It's fun and all but er... Not sure going comedic with Shaft is the right route.

Shaft should have true grit about it. This sort of style works for Ride Along.

I see Richard Roundtree is back again, I think I'll wait till this appears on Netflix

Its certainly not going to be the Shaft i remember but having said that i think it looks pretty funny. Not quite sure why the States is getting it in cinemas but here in the UK its straight to Netflix.

I laughed the whole way through that. Which is a good and a bad thing.

I hope the film is closer in style to the 2000 film, which imo had a nice balance between the SHAFT grit and comedic elements. An underrated film I think.

Just be glad the role is not played by a white dude, it would reopen the Bond is Black discussion again. ;)

If Jackson has such a prominent role, and even Roundtree has more than a cameo, then what the h do they Need the Boy for? If he was the lead and the other two had very small parts I might dig it, but as it is it just Looks like another misshapen passing-the-baton Story.

Not to mention the Shaft film as an entity being a buddy cop comedy.

They should've just called it Shaft's Ride Along.

True. I´m getting vibes of a production where everybody halfway through felt that it´s not working, but still had to go on due to orders from above.

Jackson is incredible as always but this new punk isn't fit to share the screen with him. Where are Chris Bale and Jeffrey Wright when you need them?

The whole tone of the film is wrong. Shaft as a buddy cop action comedy is like the '67 satire Casino Royale to the Bond franchise. Just imagine had they used the Johnny English scripts and incorporated Daniel Craig into the lead, reprising his role as Bond, while everything else remains the same. A parody of its own.

Gerard Butler is in negotiations for the lead role in the thriller Greenland.

Greenland follows a family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster.

It will be directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Shot Caller), who has already worked with Butler on the action flick Angel Has Fallen (releasing on August 23, 2019). Production for Greenland is due to start this April.

Gordon Parks must be rolling over in his grave. That millennial Shaft comedy looks absolutely dreadful.

Actually, I'm not crazy about the title SHAFT for this film. Considering it's a continuation of the series and not an outright remake, as was the last film.
Got me to thinking, that is no different than every new Bond film being called DR NO, or the next Indiana Jones film also being called INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.

Titles have been getting more and more generic for brand recognition purposes. At least they could've called it Shaft: [subtitle].

I accept the idea of going lighter with a film series (for example, Bond!) though this new Shaft film looks perhaps a bit too funny and lighthearted. Maybe it's too sudden a shift in tone.

The first trailer for Danny Boyle's Yesterday is expected to drop in the coming days/weeks.

A struggling musician realizes he's the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles.

Starring: Lily James, Ana de Armas, Ed Sheeran and Kate McKinnon.

    Release date: June 28, 2019.
  • Granted, Aladdin will be sprinkled with Disney's magic dust, but it occurs to me that Will Smith is in real need of a win here. When's the last time he made solid box office?
