I had the new and enjoyable experience of hosting an episode of the Spybrary podcast, talking to @Dragonpol and Edward Biddulph about John Gardner's Bond novels.

I'm a notorious Gardner hater but we kept everything polite and above board and it was an interesting discussion:

Nice to hear your voices. @Dragonpol, I hear you came well prepared.

Sorry, did not listen to the whole thing as the subject matter doesn t interest me all that much.

Enjoyed that. Was half way through listening to it when I saw this thread. Made me want to read the Gardner’s again. Most of them I’ve only read once, pretty much as they came out.

It was a lot of fun to record! I might be having another Bondian podcast adventure in the next couple of weeks, too.

Thanks for creating this thread, @Agent_99. I hope the episode is received well amongst the listeners and literary Bond fans. I think we got a fair amount of ground covered in the time we had.

Yes, it was great fun to take part in and it was great to chat with you both about all things Gardner Bond. You really were an excellent host and interviewer so I'm not surprised you're appearing on another podcast. You could carve out a niche as a presenter, I think.

Yes, we need more intelligent presenters out there.

    I certainly didn't, and I'm not even a native English speaker. :D

Oh, that's good then. I never like to hear my voice played back, but I think most people are the same! I think Alice and Edward both have great voices though.

Don't worry, @Dragonpol , you come off as just as uncomfortably sinister as your photographs would imply. I am impressed.

Well for that I am relieved. >:)

Brilliant! Looking forward to hear it, Dragonpol knows a lot of John Gardner (as his nickname actually shows).

I've managed to meet up with Edward in person since the recording, which is nice. Forging those Bond fan connections everywhere!

You can now also see me in glorious Technicolour here on Spybrary episode 229 along with presenter Matt Raubenheimer, special guest Mark Edlitz and Bill Kanas to celebrate the publication of Mark's latest book, Bond After Fleming: The Continuation Novels (2023):

@Dragonpol, it's so refreshing putting a voice to the face of the name I've interacted with for so long on here. I don't have even 10% of the literary knowledge that you do but your fandom is always palpable, my friend.

This is a before and after moment for me. I've now seen Lord Dragonpol. Nothing will ever be the same.

Thank you, @Creasy47. That's very kind of you to say. You know a lot more about the Bond films than I do so it evens out!

As you can see my avatar image is fairly accurate. I have the same eyes. I hope the image didn't scare you too much and that you won't have nightmares.

You do have the same darkly hypnotic eyes. I agree that it's refreshing to see the man behind the posts, so no, I wasn't scared. And after all, I've already crossed over to the dark side of the mind. It's kind of cozy in here I must say (evil laugh).

Thanks, @mattjoes. Though I think I'm a better writer than a speaker it was great to take part with some Bond people with whom I've only chatted online. It's a reminder than behind every avatar there is a real flesh and blood human. I know that Mark Zuckerberg and the Metaverse would like you to think otherwise though!
