I really would love to know who they paid off to get the job in the first place. I'm not having a go at their writing but they literally did come from almost nowhere to writing these films. It's even weirder when you look at their IMDb credits and there's only one proper feature length film script to their name.

Yeah fair play to them - I bet they cant believe their luck but how is this a CV to get you the job writing Bond (copied from IMDB):

    1999 Plunkett & Macleane (screenplay)

    1991 Let Him Have It

Thats all they had ever done!! Not even any TV or anything!

And where were they for those 8 years inbetween? Is that how long it took to polish Plunkett & Macleane because I'm pretty sure that most of us on here could come up with a better end result than an entirely forgettable film if we spent 8 years polishing and rewriting.

Or maybe they gave themseleves 5 years off after the box office smash that was Let Him Have It?

Its utterly bemusing how they got the job. They must do an incredible interview but how they even made it past the intial paper sift is beyond belief.

Maybe they spent that 8 years collecting photos of Babs and MGW in compromising positions?

If our constant slating of these hacks is even 0.01% to blame for this decision then all I can say is a hearty well done to each and every one of us.

I feel like I imagine people did on VE Day. I know its late but does anyone fancy meeting up in Trafalgar Sq to dance in the fountains and spray champagne everywhere?

This is genuinely the best Bond news I've heard since 2004! Would join you in Traf Sq if I wasn't oop north.

Blofeld would be crying happy tears right now because EoN finally fed them to the piranhas.

During the royal premiere I thought Neal Purvis & Robert Wade actually congratulated John Logan for creating that
homo-erotic scene between Bond and Silva
. They openly admitted it wasn't their job, but entirely Logan's.

Or there trying to cover up their embarrassing incompetence as writers.

Hope there is very little of P&W's writing left in B25.

If you're going to blame Wilson, blame Maibaum as well. During the 80's they worked together.

Why would I do that? Maibaum has produced some wonderful scripts in the past, includuing Mel Gibson's Ransom which was all done without MGW's interference I might add.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Sammy, but isn't Maibaum unable to contribute to anymore Bond storylines - especially the one's we've been talking about here - namely the Brosnan/Craig ones? I do think it's very churlish of you to want to lay the blame at such a brilliant and highly esteemed screenwriter especially when they're in their final resting place. How tacky.

The Mel Gibson version of Ransom (1996) was a remake. The original, titled Ransom! (1956) was written by Maibaum and Cyril Hume. Each got a "story by" credit in the 1996 version.

This time I think they just provided the backbone of the story. Maybe they will get just a story credit. At least they didn't had to "save" the script this time around...

When DC leaves, they should too! They must have some dirt on EON. I know legal rights are in the way, but I still think it would be best to adapt some other books and graphic novels, for the screen, even for a TV series. They're stories are better on average than P & W "original" screenplays.

Every new Bond film claims to be the last with their involvement and every time, like a Swiss cuckoo clock, they prove the universe wrong. Maybe it's Michael who really likes them, I don't know.

They were supposed to be done after SF, they were brought back in for spectre at the last minute and Barbara had them write a draft in 2016 for what was eventually now b25

If this was a James Bond list, they'd be number 1! And most of these people have done something good in their careers.

I'd almost forgotten about TheWizardOfIce, I can't believe it's been over a year since he left. Such a shame, he was the very best user of this community.

This is what I heard definitively, before the walls went up and all secure source(s) have now gone dead quiet; I was told Purvis and Wade will see very little of their work in the shooting draft (yes the basic structure, some set pieces, but the bulk was turned over to Burns/Fukunaga and PWB)... since I heard this, no one is chatting (at least to me, lol)

    Ditch Purvis and Buttwade.

    Being in Marcus and McFeely.

Purvis and Wade’s works so often end up being taken over by other writers that I don’t have much of an opinion on them beyond laying solid concepts for films. Whatever shortcomings involved with films they’re credited to I’m more likely to blame the filmmakers.

If I’m glad any writer left, it’s Bruce Feirstein, who seemed to have been banished into video game land, which is probably best suited for him.

    Absolutely!

P&W should be booted out permanently from now on. EON's priority for the next Bond writer is scouring the earth looking for a replacement to Richard Maibaum - someone who was successful at adapting Fleming's novels, short stories, scenes and characters, and weave them seamlessly into a movie screenplay.

I also get the impression Maibaum had a healthy does of respect for Fleming's work too, which is why he tried to adapt as much of it as he could, whenever Cubby gave him the green light to do so.

It's honestly time for EON to say goodbye to Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. They need new writers, more than anything after Daniel Craig leaves. Some of their comments over the years are offensive to James Bond.

    EON look for new writers!

    :)) Good one, @Birdleson! ;-)

To be honest, I think that P&W, on their own, should never touch a Bond film again. However, with others polishing their material, or downright involved in the process of writing, quality can be delivered. So I don't mind them sticking around as long as it's not just them and nobody else.

There was a lot of excitement in this thread in October 2012. Did Purvis and Wade and Wade announce it back then that Skyfall was their final Bond film?

As I said in the NTTD spoilers thread Purvis and Wade have been stealing a living off Bond way back when Brosnan was in the role.
